00:11And, John, we have to address a sweep.
00:14How does it have you feeling?
00:16Well, I mean, anytime you sweep a team, especially a Chicago team, you feel good.
00:21That's about where it ends for me.
00:22In the moment, you feel good.
00:24I'm excited that they won.
00:26They're still 11 back of 500.
00:29They're still seven and a half back of the division.
00:31I think it's five in the wild card.
00:33And so have they made up any ground in the last, well, the 12 games that we had talked about?
00:40Well, let me break it down for you like this.
00:41The key number is 11.
00:43On June 11th, they were 11 games back.
00:47They've played 11 games, and they're still 11 back.
00:53So six and five in that time.
00:55So the answer is no.
00:56No, they haven't.
00:58And not to be that guy.
00:59If you're feeling good, the crowds were awesome this weekend.
01:02But is it real hope or fake hope?

01:09You're never going to fault the team for putting it in gear.

01:25And I think right now it's still fake hope.

01:32And again, it's a it's great that they want.
01:34We should celebrate the fact that they want.
01:36It's a three game series sweep.
01:39They've since June.
01:41They've won more series than they've lost.

01:45But the question is, in the in the big picture, every time I bring this up to someone, they're
01:50like, well, it's a long season.
01:52Yes, that is correct.
01:53But I'm not sure if if you go every 12 game stretch and you only pick up one game, they
02:00didn't even pick up a game in this stretch.
02:04What does that actually mean?
02:06Because if you go back in history and you say, OK, well, has anybody ever won the division
02:11with a losing record?
02:12The answer is no.
02:15Have in a hundred and sixty two game season, that's not been strike shortened or the pandemic
02:20season.
02:20Has anybody made the postseason with a losing record?
02:26And it's happened twice, but both of them were.
02:29I think it was seventy one.
02:30It was the Kansas City Royals because it was a strike shortened season.
02:33And then it was forget who the team was in twenty twenty.
02:38That maybe Houston Astros that had a it was a sixty game season.
02:42They had a losing record, but there were sixteen games and teams in the postseason.
02:45So, no, it's you have to get back to five hundred.
02:49Everybody looks at, well, it's only five in the wildcard.
02:53It's only seven and a half in the American League is is there's only a couple of teams
02:57that are over five hundred.
02:58Like, no, you're still going to have to get back to five hundred if you're going to
03:02historically make the postseason to your point.
03:04The final wildcard spot in the American League right now is one game under and it's the
03:09Toronto Blue Jays.
03:11And John, I have a feeling they're going to want to add the trade deadline.
03:15You know what I mean?
03:18You're going to have to get to five hundred.
03:20They're eleven under.
03:21If they're just going to yo yo around, win a series, lose a series, win two, lose two,
03:26take a sweep, lose.
03:28It's going nowhere and they're going to run out of time because you're going to get to
03:31the deadline and then you got to do what's right.
03:35So right now, the final wildcard spot is Toronto and you would think, well, Detroit's only
03:40five back.
03:41They got to be nipping at their heels.
03:42No, there's still the A's, Twins, Rangers, Orioles and Astros all within two games of
03:47that playoff spot, all in a better position than the Detroit Tigers.
03:51I think people, if you're a Tiger optimist or you just can't help but believe in your
03:56baseball team, you use that five games.
03:58But I'll tell you, there's more than five teams that you got to topple along the way.

04:03And it's just, it's exciting that they won three in a row.
04:09It's frustrating because you still have the month of May as a part of your resume.
04:14It's still that six wins and 22 losses is such a mountain to overcome.
04:22And yes, it is a long season.
04:24Can they do it?
04:25Sure.
04:26Will they do it?

04:28I don't know.
04:29So I asked them to be six under at the end of June and that's when they were 16 under

04:35they were going to ever, ever find anything.
04:37And they made up no ground in 11 games.
04:40So what, to do that, they've got to go seven and two here?
04:46To round out the month, you're saying?
04:48Against the Yankees, six games and the Astros, four.

04:52I mean, it's just, I...
04:55It's part of this 10-game homestand plus a trip to New York.
04:57I needed the six under.
04:58It's like, well, how is seven under any different than six?

05:00You know, the six for me was just, okay, maybe we back off on selling potentially because
05:08you made up 10 games in a month.
05:10And where do you feel like you're at on that today?
05:12I'm selling, man.

05:14I just, I don't know.
05:15I look at the three games this weekend.
05:17I saw nothing that would make me buy in long-term.
05:23I kind of feel like they got lucky to sweep them to be on, especially yesterday.
05:27You know, typically that this team doesn't win that game yesterday.
05:31No, I am happy for fans who bought tickets to Sunday's game thinking they were going
05:37to see Justin Verlander, maybe got their dad out to the ballpark and did something with
05:41dad and then you don't get JV.
05:44At least you were treated to a dramatic walk-off winner and a great atmosphere.
05:49You know, but I mean, I remember that Dodgers win a couple years ago where they came back
05:53and won.
05:54It was kind of similar to that.
05:55Not quite as far as a comeback and stuff.
05:57But that happened in the year they actually made the run and make the playoffs.
06:00But it happened in early July.
06:02It's like there's no carryover in baseball.
06:04I didn't see baseball reasons why I think this team's going to go like six and one on
06:10this, the next seven games.
06:12And that's the remaining homestand.
06:13Like, that's what I need to see.
06:15I need to see this.

06:16Now something's starting to come together.
06:18It still seems like it's a grind.
06:20You still got this Jemai Jones situation.
