12:09They've been outstanding today.
12:12Josevar still in the thick of it there in sixth.
12:15Yeah, I mean, you celebrate young drivers, you put him on the list.
12:19And the nine-car chase Elliott gets spun out off the nose of the two of Sendrick.
12:25That's into turn 12.
12:28Chase has had a struggle all day long with the pace of the nine-car.
12:32And Brad Keselowski trying to get through.
12:42And, yeah, that's going to cause Brad to have a flat tire,
12:46and he comes to pit road to make that repair.
12:5226 laps to go.
12:54Hey, don't look now.
12:57Adam, you said, did never count anybody else.
13:00Bubba Wallace up to 13th.
13:02You mentioned 2311, so I said, well, where's the 23 car at?
13:05I know he had a little bit of a rough start with that wheel coming off.
13:08Two laps back, and he has driven his way.
13:11Last lap, around fifth-fastest car on the racetrack as he's making passes.
13:16This 23 car is putting in work.
13:19How far up can you get?
13:2026 laps to go.
13:23Well, you look at the chase bubble.
13:25You think about the disappointment of last week at Pocono.
13:28And the V13 plus 62 creating insurance
13:31and building confidence with his style of racing,
13:34knowing what we're going to do next week.
13:36Really good comeback by he and this race team.
13:39Pit.
13:41Copy.
13:42Heads up on him.
13:45Couldn't quite make that out.
13:46I think it was pitting.
13:47Yeah, a lot of cars.
13:47That's what I thought.
13:48So here you go.
13:4925 to go.
13:50They must think they can make it from here on fuel.
13:52Bubba Wallace stays on the racetrack.
13:54I understand the theory here that you want to be the first car
13:57to pit in case the caution comes out.
13:59But, Trevor, my concern is I'm not sure the rear tires can make it 25 under green.
14:03Yeah, I think that is a concern, Steve,
14:05as they've called the 19 to pit road here to make hopefully his final stop.
14:08He's been very quiet on the radio, though.
14:11Earlier in the day, he did talk about that rear grip that you mentioned.
14:1434 of Todd Gilliland also having a decent day here
14:17when he was inside the top 10 earlier.
14:19He has had a lot of success on this road course,
14:22but right now they're having issues on the left side of this stop
14:25that's really going to hurt their time on pit road, Steve.
14:27Yeah, that is unfortunate for the 34 who is doing such a nice job.
14:31He had to come around the 19, and he's just a little too long.
14:34Listen, great work by that front tire changer.
14:36If he takes that lug nut off, that is a penalty, a much bigger penalty.
14:40So he knows it's his job.
14:41He looked left.
14:42The splitter was over the line, waving his left hand, set the car down.
14:46It was a mistake, but don't compound it with a bigger issue.
14:49Well, there's no way anybody else can see that.
14:52So he sees it, he calls everybody off, but as you said, you minimize the damage.
14:57And to defend Todd a little bit, coming around a car, once again, backwards, driver on the left.
15:02You know, so he's trying to judge where that right front fender is.
15:05Normally, it's the left front fender.
15:07They can get very close to the car that's coming around.
15:09Todd being a little too cautious, and for that reason, getting long in his box.
15:18That's your tires now.
15:19Back on track.
15:20Gilliland getting after it.
15:23Battle for second right here with Zane Smith closing the gap on Blaney.
15:29Blaney kind of ginger around these corners now.
15:32Looks like the tires are slipping away on this 12 car.
15:35And that's what I mean by pitting right now.
15:37There's only eight laps difference between Blaney and Larson,
15:39and Larson has driven out to nearly a four-second lead.
15:42Tires matter.
15:44And you said it earlier, applaud Goodyear.
15:46We want tires to matter.
15:47But I don't think it's as easy as just pit as soon as you can make it on fuel.
15:50Zane's got to come to pit road here.
15:54Allow Corey Heim to sit here and try to chase down this 12.
15:59Scheduled green flag pit stops.
16:00This one coming.
16:0224 to go.
16:03Zane Smith in front of you, Kim.
16:04Yeah, and for Ryan Bergetti, the crew team,
16:06this is a little bit outside his comfort zone in terms of the window,
16:09but they noticed that the sixth, Brad Keselowski, is stalled up his road,
16:13anticipating possibly a car shift coming out because of that.
16:17I wasn't sure, but did say the car was great except for on the concrete portions.
16:20Marty.
16:20Kim, to Steve's point, the strategy worked for the RFK cars to connect it to that one final stop.
16:26This is that stop.
16:27But, man, tires just way too important.
16:30Buscher lost all rear grip.
16:32He was able to hang in the top five,
16:34but his teammate, Ryan Priest, dropped outside of the top 20
16:38after leading just a few moments ago, struggling with that rear grip.
16:42So, Steve, you're exactly right.
16:43Tires matter here at San Diego today.
16:47But, I mean, Steve, the one thing, if you're Priest, it doesn't work out for you here.
16:51You lose some ground in this cycle, but you get all those stage points,
16:55which is a great thing for this group.
17:00He's looking down on the leaderboard.
17:02Larson up to a five-second lead.
17:04That's allowing him taking the pressure off, like, use these tires while you have them.
17:09Gap that.
17:10And he's running a second faster, basically, than everyone in the field right now.
17:15He's one second faster than the cars behind him.
17:17And just think about the options that then creates on the pit box for Cliff Daniels, right?
17:21Because you have that lead.
17:23You can watch how everybody else manages it.
17:25And then you can kind of pick your time to come down and get your final stop.
17:29Yeah, I was a much better strategist with a fast car.
17:32He's a guy.
17:35I will say, though, I talked to Cliff Daniels last weekend at Pocono.
17:38I know you did as well, Dale.
17:42They feel like their arms are continually just getting around it more and more.
17:47And you see it in the results.
17:49Haven't won.
17:50But the stage performance is there.
17:52The overall performance is there.
17:55And we are seeing how productive they have been.
17:59It's been a while since they've won 40 races.
18:01But he has a championship in his pocket from a year ago.
18:04They're in position to go out and get it done this year when you look at the standings overall.
18:08And now in a very good spot to go out and get a win here today.
18:11Well, they've been trying to dial in the new Chevrolet body at all the mile and a half racetracks and
18:15all the ovals.
18:16And they have made some gains there.
18:17But they come to a racetrack where that's not quite as critical.
18:20And he's told us that they just got to execute.
18:23Got to get everything right.
18:24That's what Redick did at the start of the year.
18:26That's what the 11 of Denny Hamlin and his team have been able to do over the last several weeks.
18:30It's just execute perfectly with fast race cars.
18:33The five team trying to do that today.
18:35So far, so good.
18:37And the pace in this car right now, like to your point, Steve, is really going to assist them in
18:41their strategy going forward.
18:42Yeah, so you lose about 35 seconds coming in and getting four tires.
18:46So when you look at Larson extending that lead, he's going to rejoin the racetrack in like 15th.
18:51Right?
18:51So, I mean, this time that any of these guys are running right now, if this continues to run green,
18:56they're not going to get this back.
18:58They're stretching it out where they need to be.
19:01Barty, what do you hear from Kyle Larson in the five car?
19:04Not a word about pitting yet from Cliff Daniels as the crew is ready if they do need him to
19:08come down pit road.
19:09But to Junior's point, not only learning this Chevy body, but as Kyle Larson told me earlier this week, we
19:14have struggled with this brand new tire the last couple of years at road courses.
19:18Remember how good they've been the last few years, Junior, at road courses.
19:22But when this new tire came in the game, they struggled at Hendrick Motorsports with the five car.
19:27But I tell you what, they have got the puzzle solved so far today at San Diego.
19:31That lead now over five seconds for Kyle Larson, almost six seconds for Larson.
19:37One more stop to come for this five team.
19:39Well, this is when strategy works the best because you would think cars like Zane Smith, who came early, would
19:44be making up time on Larson.
19:46That is not the case.
19:47Larson is the fastest car on the racetrack a lot of the time, even on older tires.
19:53Zane Smith is the best of that group that pitted north of lap 50.
19:56He came to lap 51, he's rejoined the pack, now riding 17.
20:01Just for perspective, as you start to think about where everybody fits into the equation,
20:06and we start discussing when that five car of Kyle Larson could make his final pit stop of the day.
20:11Yeah, I'm just looking at the math, right?
20:12He's got 14 on these tires, 23 to go.
20:14I'd run three more laps, probably, if I'm the five car.
20:18That still gives me 20 to go.
20:19If the caution comes out, I lose some track position, but I have pressure tires.
20:21I'll run those guys back down.
20:23He's done it already once.
20:2924, mentioned some contact with the wall, running fifth.
20:32Let's take a look, Dale.
20:35This is turn six.
20:39Oh, man.
20:40I think we saw SVG or someone do that in practice or qualifying.
20:45And that's exactly how we had that nasty crash yesterday in the O'Reilly race,
20:51with Sam Mare making contact with the apex of the corner.
20:54It's so easy to do.
20:58But it's a driver mistake, and you hate, you know, you feel terrible making such a simple mistake,
21:04having to sit here and lose all these laps.
21:08Look at that chase bubble.
21:09Byron, you know, still in a good spot when you look at his advantage over the cut line.
21:13Behind him, though, it is very tight.
21:15From 15th down to 19th, just really, really snug with what will be nine races to go to the chase
21:22after today.
21:23We have quite the summer coming.
21:25Big time.
21:25I mean, this summer, we're going to head north, run Sonoma.
21:29That'll be the last road course of the season.
21:30And then when you just look at we've got some throwbacks.
21:33We've got Chicagoland out there.
21:35Wolf Wilkesboro's out there.
21:36Two races in the draft.
21:37I mean, Atlanta, Echo Park Speedway, Daytona.
21:40There's a whole lot going on between now and we're running for a championship.
21:44Oh, my.
21:45Okay, we were on board with the 54 and I thought he was making some ground.
21:48I knew he had some damage.
21:49I didn't realize it was that much damage.
21:51I mean, the right front tire is going to be chilly.
21:53Look at that thing.
21:54A whole fender missing for the right front of Ty Gibbs as we see the 16 come by.
21:59Yeah, AJ sliding through.
22:02I mean, Gibbs is running ninth.
22:06Next car behind Gibbs is Denny Hamlin, Raleigh Herbst in the 35.
22:13All these guys in the top ten.
22:16Going to have to make another pitch stop here.
22:20Look at this.
22:22I love it.
22:23I kind of love it.
22:24Yeah.
22:26Yes, you're right.
22:27Sometimes, you know, when you have air on the tires, it keeps the temperature out of the tire and the
22:31tire will perform better.
22:32It kind of balances out whatever aero disadvantage you may have.
22:36And there is something about, we've talked about how great this event is, but racing, not NASCAR.
22:43Racing around the world has become an aerodynamic battle.
22:46From the sprint cars on dirt to Formula One, it doesn't matter.
22:50You can't put Pandora's box back together.
22:53Then we unloaded the streets here in Coronado.
22:56And I would tell you, by the looks of that 54, we at least have an event or a track
23:00that aero can be overcome on mechanical grip.
23:03And it's refreshing to watch.
23:04Trevor, the 12 of Blaney on pit road.
23:06That was the longest run on tires yet for the 12 of Brian Blaney, being 24 laps.
23:11Before that, 10 laps was the longest.
23:12By the end of that run, he had a lot of follow-up on lap time.
23:15Went from the lead to over 13 seconds behind leader Kyle Larson.
23:18They're going to get him four good years on this number 12 board and see if he can go get
23:22some of that time back here.
23:27A little bit slower stop on the 12.
23:30Kyle Larson has extended it out to what was nearly a six-second lead that is now down to 4
23:36.6 seconds.
23:38Corey Heim, part-time this year, full-time next year for 2311.
23:43That 67 car is just putting some laps together.
23:47Very similar tires to Larson.
23:50He's still kind of outside of contact.
23:52But look, I mean, it's down to 4.4 seconds.
23:54I mean, that's a big chunk.
23:56That's a second, Trevor, that the 67 has run Larson down from.
24:01This is right in Corey's wheelhouse, Steve.
24:03He is so good at tire management.
24:05If you look at the 12 wins in the truck series he had last year,
24:07it was mostly done late in the run where he had managed the tire.
24:11He has a feel for it.
24:12He can tell when that tire is slipping.
24:14And that is exactly what's giving him that success so far today, Marty.
24:19Trevor, still no movement in the five camp to get ready for a pit stop for Kyle Larson.
24:23And Steve mentioned it.
24:24That lead is shrinking just a little bit for Larson.
24:27But look who's in third, Carson Hosobar, who said earlier in the week,
24:31listen, I've sent my team the wrong direction at road courses.
24:35Started the weekend with his teammate Michael McDowell set up, kind of migrated from there,
24:39but the best speed junior we've ever seen at a road course from Carson Hosobar.
24:43And he, too, but of a tire advantage, he's leading that group who last pitted at lap 41.
24:48Spent a ton of time on the iRacing simulator all week working with Shane,
24:52Van Gisbergen, and it's paid off at the 77.
24:55And think about the patience that we've seen this man try to develop.
24:59The mistakes that he's made over the years, over the last several years,
25:03behind the wheel of this car, trying to develop himself into the full race car driver he can become.
25:08And you've got to be great on the road courses.
25:10This is the toughest test for all these drivers, and he's performing.
25:1420 laps to go at Naval Base Coronado.
25:18That's the length of the opening stage.
25:20Kyle Larson, the reigning champion charge, looking for his first victory of the campaign.
25:26Great effort for Corey Hyman second.
25:29Hosobar Reddick, Chastain Wallace, up there as well.
25:36Kim?
25:37Yeah, 54 of Ty Gibbs on the pit lane.
25:40Not really a lot of feedback on that car, despite it being damaged.
25:43That feels pretty good.
25:44They took four fresh tires.
25:47We'll see if any of these cars coming kind of entices the five to come to pit road.
25:53Remember, all these cars that have pitted under green, or at least the majority of,
25:56you would imagine would not pit.
25:58If the caution comes out, Larson would have to come, and it would be a cycle back situation.
26:06We'll take a break, anticipating more pit stops.
26:10And as we step aside with 20 laps to go, we say happy Father's Day to all those watching here
26:16this afternoon.
26:41I suddenly realized that I was no longer driving down the road.
27:01Доброе утро!

28:14Hell no.
28:15We were born loud.

28:55That's just the way you make me feel.
29:00Get that big deal feeling this Prime Day, June 23rd through the 26th.
29:06Coming to 18 laps to go in the annual 250 here at Naval Base Coronado.
29:12Kyle Larson continues to lead.
29:14Heim, Josevar, Reddick, Wallace up there in the top five.
29:17They've got to make pit stops.
29:19Of those that have already pitted, best of the bunch, Zane Smith at 11th, Chris Buescher in 12th.
29:25They pitted at lap 51.
29:26They're 35 seconds back of race leader Kyle Larson.
29:29The big thing for me is this Corey Heim conversation.
29:32It is real.
29:33There he is.
29:34He is in the picture now.
29:36We didn't have a straightaway long enough to put him in the same straightaway four laps ago.
29:40Corey Heim, look at the lap one time.
29:42It's 218.10 to a 216.9.
29:44That's 1.2 seconds.
29:47Corey Heim has run down Kyle Larson.
29:49He has entered the chat.
29:51That is for sure.
29:51He has entered.
29:52Yes.
29:59And now we do our Credit One Bank Ones to watch.
30:03How about the race leader, Steve LaTarte?
30:05Well, listen, it's hard to pick.
30:07Kyle Larson is leading the race.
30:08How is he not the pick to have?
30:09Well, he's on a 40 race win this streak.
30:11Six times, though.
30:12He has won at the road course of the last time.
30:15Back at 24 at the Roval is today the day for Kyle Larson.
30:20Zane Smith, he's back in 10th place.
30:22But I'm wondering how the strategy is going to play out for this number 38 forward.
30:26Zane has topped tens in two of the last four races.
30:30He's got two truck wins on the road courses.
30:33Could be another win for this team today.
30:35Steve, I'm going to take your 40 race win the streak, and I'm going to up you.
30:39It's been 60 races since Chris Buescher has found his way to Victory Lane.
30:43Got it done on a road course.
30:45Watkins Glen a couple of years ago.
30:47Been in the game all day here today.
30:49I mentioned the fact he's one of those drivers that's already made a pit stop.
30:53Cycled up to 11th.
30:55Keep your eye on driver 17th, who this week eked a new contract with RFK.
31:01So he's staying committed to his group and having a great run here in Southern California.
31:06Time gets that down to two seconds.
31:13I have to remember, it was Heim that missed the Chicago street course.
31:17Unbelievable, right?
31:18Yeah, he had the issue, and it was dramatic to see who was going to qualify it on time.
31:25I say that because this is his first cup road course race, but not his first attempt.
31:29I mean, he missed the street course at Chicago, and here he is putting down some of the best laps
31:34in Coronado.
31:36Yeah.
31:36Got to give credit, too, to Booty Barker.
31:38Booty's been a long-time crew chief, but he's managed this team when Heim comes over and runs the fourth
31:44car for 23-11.
31:46He's a good leader, just a good balanced, even temperament on the pit box for a young driver like Heim.
31:52And 23-11 obviously had the right approach here.
31:55When you look at Heim, second, Bubba Wallace, fifth, Herbst, eighth, Redick, fourth.
32:03I skipped right over Redick.
32:04I see him so much as a top five, I didn't even give him credit.
32:06So all four 23-11 cars.
32:08There we go, pitting this time.
32:11Well, let's see what's going to happen.
32:12He's close enough now that these backwards pit stops that are awkward, he could jump Larson.
32:16This could be a race on and off pit road with 17 laps to go.
32:20I don't know if this race could be determined by the pit crews.
32:23Booty, I'm running out of tire here, dude.
32:26Booty, I'm running out of tire.
32:28Hey, man.
32:29Man, what a cool disposition for this kid.
32:32Running second.
32:35All the confidence in the world and probably adjusting to the next-gen car quicker than I've seen anybody.
32:43Coming out of the trucks of the O'Reilly Series.
32:45Here's a look at our shot on Snapdragon camera, turn five.
32:48It's pretty cool, huh?
32:51Look at the worn-out asphalt, all the tire debris that's slid up.
32:57Benny Hamlin's going to go back and watch this race this week and see his newest driver running second.
33:02It's going to get him the warm and fuzzies, man.
33:04He's going to feel really good.
33:05Now the 21 is going to buy the five.
33:07Next car in line is the 67.
33:11And it's going to be really close to Chris Buescher, who has already pitted.
33:15He has run some great laps.
33:16I only say that, not to confuse the situation, but what we're going to be looking for is Larson and
33:21Heim when they come to pit road,
33:22where they blend relative to Buescher and Zane Smith, who are on the racetrack.
33:27Because I think they may blend behind them, and we're going to have a situation where we have to run
33:30them down.
33:31Well, and I'll say this.
33:32The good thing is Buescher has gotten by Zane Smith in that exchange of those drivers that have already made
33:36a pit stop.
33:37It was Smith in front of Buescher.
33:39Now it's the other way around as we start thinking about the cycle and who is where in the track
33:44position that could play out in the last 15 laps or so.
33:47If you look at the map in the bottom left, we've put the 17 in there because we believe he
33:51can make it to the end.
33:52He's the first car in line.
33:54Now look, he's running eighth, but the first car in line that can make it to the end.
33:57So when the leaders pit, where they return to the track relative to Buescher would then become the race for
34:03the lead.
34:04First, let's see what these two do.
34:05I think they're coming together.
34:06Oh, I love this.
34:07Drag, race around all the way to the yellow line.
34:09Pit, Cruz, you've been practicing.
34:12Let's see what you can do backwards.
34:15Here they come, Trevor.
34:17Corey Haim has not missed a step all day as he ran down the race leader, Kyle Larson, and was
34:21putting the pressure on.
34:22He said he was out of rear tires by the end of that run.
34:24We'll see if Corey Haim can save tires on this next 15 laps to have something to win this race,
34:29Marty.
34:29Trevor, the only 11 laps Kyle Larson has led today to this point with 16 to go were the last
34:3511 laps.
34:36No complaints, even though that lead did shrink down a bunch for Kyle Larson at the very end of that
34:42run.
34:42Four tires here.
34:44We'll see where everybody blends out.
34:45He's easily going to beat the 67, but where does he blend in with the rest of the field, Adam?
34:49Yeah, they come off pit road, and there you see flashing by.
34:53Buescher has already come by the exit of the pit lane.
34:56So the 17 jumps him.
34:58He's headed to turn three right here.
35:00Here's the question.
35:01He's opened up a gap, but he's on those older tires.
35:04What does pitting later in the cycle do for you here if you're Larson and Corey Haim and the others
35:10that'll come?
35:11Yeah, eight-lap older tires.
35:12We saw that.
35:13Basically, they burned off from Blaney, and that's where it went away.
35:16Okay, so looking at the leaderboard, let's look at last pit.
35:18We have Josevar, Redick, Wallace, Chastain, all needing pit stops to make it to the finish of this race.
35:24Look at Buescher, Zane Smith.
35:26You mentioned it.
35:27Eight-lap older tires.
35:29The next four positions, what we believe will be positioned at the end of the race,
35:32will be Larson and Haim, the other cars that are out there.
35:35At this point, I think, are hoping for a yellow because so many guys pitted 10 laps ago, you'd have
35:39fresher tires.
35:40This is going to be a heck of a sprint.
35:42We talk about no mistakes.
35:43Larson's going to have to be perfect to try to keep Haim behind him.
35:47It's tough when you just have to run a guy down.
35:50For Larson, it's playing offense and defense here, maybe.
35:53That's a big ask.
35:5647 car is pulling into a runoff area.
36:00It's down beyond turn two there.
36:01That's right.
36:03It was a puff of smoke.
36:05Oh, there's a ton of oil.
36:07Oh, that oil's somewhere.
36:08Yeah.
36:09Down the hill's going to be interesting to watch.
36:10Who's next to turn two?
36:12That is going to be a slippery downhill path into turn two.
36:17Six cautions so far today.
36:20And it'll be 15 laps to go this time around.
36:23Look at Haim.
36:26He's going to make this really tough on Larson.
36:29He's going to put the pressure on.
36:40Marty, what you got?
36:41Here comes Carson Hosovar as we watch that battle between Kyle Larson and Corey Haim on the track.
36:47Hosovar making his final stop of the day.
36:49Really tore up through the field with those pressure tires.
36:52No plan changes.
36:53And the caution is out as Hosovar is on pit road, Adam.
36:56Seventh caution of the day.
36:58We'll see how all this cycles and who benefits.
37:01Tyler Reddick was also on the pit lane when the caution came out.
37:05So these cars right here will be scored how they exit pit road relative to cars on the racetrack.
37:10So look right here.
37:10Here's the 77.
37:11Where is he going to be scored?
37:13Because there goes the five by right here.
37:15NASCAR is going to have to work this scoring out.
37:17But this was a huge break for Hosovar.
37:19Because remember, when the yellow comes out, the five has to slow down on board with the 47 of Stenhouse.
37:26It's through turn one.
37:28Oh, he hits the wall right there.
37:31And he blows up.
37:32Look at all the smoke coming out of the car.
37:36That's interesting.
37:37This is on board the 84 of Jimmy Johnson.
37:41Okay.
37:42He already knew all the fluid coming out of the 47.
37:46We saw the fluid beyond turn two from the Arby's on board camera.
37:51We didn't know where it started.
37:53But it obviously happened on back up the hill.
37:55And if you're NASCAR, you've got to throw the caution and get that all cleaned up before you have a
37:59bigger accident.
38:00Yeah, you see that big streak of fluid.
38:03You just can't allow those guys to race down into turn two.
38:06This is going to be an interesting lineup.
38:09NASCAR will let us know what it all is once they get it figured out.
38:14So, basically the rule is that you are scored to either the start-finish line or pit-out, depending on
38:22where you are pitting.
38:24Where those guys mostly were pitting, it would be the pit-out line.
38:28So, no doubt that Busher's the leader.
38:29I don't think that's in question.
38:31The real question is, is the 77 scored correctly?
38:33And if so, he's right behind the five of Larson.
38:35But it also erases the lead that Busher and Zane Smith had on the five of Larson and all those
38:40cars that had new tires.
38:42They have maybe a nine or an eight-lap advantage on tire sitting there behind Busher and Smith.
38:48And now they're right on their doorstep.
38:52Decent amount to sort through here.
38:53And we'll do it when we return.
38:56Fifteen laps to go at Naval Base Coronado.
39:00The caution is out.
39:01And a huge restart will come next.
39:09Critics are calling the Sheep Detectives a near-perfect 2026 surprise.
39:14It's certified fresh at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
39:18Watch it June 24th only on Prime.
39:27Look at this.
39:29You know, I've been offered a couple times to take a ride.
39:32I've never, it's never worked out schedule-wise.
39:35But I hope it does at some point.
39:37It's just amazing.
39:38Every event you see that thing.
39:40The lineup they're calling out is 77-5-67.
39:47Now let's hear from some drivers as they recap what their thoughts were preparing to take on Naval Base Coronado.
39:56One of the toughest places to prepare for, you know.
39:58But at the end of the day, it's the same for everybody.
40:00A lot of unknowns.
40:02You know, when you come up to the racetrack, you're looking all around, trying to find your brake markers, how
40:06bumpy the racetrack is.
40:07But I guess the biggest surprise was how low grip it was and how quickly the tires wore out.
40:13This track's got way less grip than what our sim had.
40:16So you're almost having to relearn it once you get here.
40:20Some of it's going to be concrete.
40:21Some of it's going to be repaved asphalt.
40:23Some of it's going to be old asphalt.
40:24So everything is a complete guess.
40:28A complete guess.
40:30And we've got a lot more answers now after spending so much time on this street circuit.
40:36Practice Friday, qualifying yesterday.
40:38And here we are, 61 laps into the race today.
40:41Yeah, they've got a new challenge now.
40:42As we saw the speedy drive and cleanup work getting done down the hill into turn two
40:47with all the fluid that Ricky Stenhouse laid onto the racetrack.
40:51So all the drivers are going to have to advance into that corner,
40:54not really truly understanding what kind of grip might be there,
40:57what grip might not be there.
40:59That's already been a pretty tough part.
41:02So, you know, look at this, right?
41:03So they're all going to be trying to fight more for the inside of the racetrack
41:06and stay out of that speedy drive that's been put down on the racetrack.
41:10You won't be able to really use that outside line in the braking zone to advance.
41:15We've seen some drivers do that throughout the day.
41:20Pause in the action.
41:21Let's do a little FanDuel race check here at Naval Base Coronado.
41:25I'll give you a little handicapping when I look at this.
41:28I like Kyle Larson and Corey Heim.
41:31I like the position they're in.
41:33I think they have the freshest tires near the front looking very good.
41:37Buescher has the lead, so I understand the situation.
41:39But with those eight-lap fresher tires, it is going to be a little bit of an uphill battle.
41:43I will tell you, though, you never know, right?
41:46You have a bunch of restarts, a bunch of wrecks.
41:48Buescher might be able to just keep the track position all the way to the end.
41:51Marty?
41:51See, there's actually some debate on the 17 radio.
41:54They're leading right now.
41:55But you mentioned those eight-lap fresher tires right behind them as to whether or not they would pit here
42:00because they do have extra sets of tires in the 17 camp.
42:04So they could pit here.
42:05But you're going to give up a ton of track position with not a lot of time left here at
42:09San Diego.
42:10Meanwhile, Kyle Larson has been coached by Cliff Daniels before this restart coming up,
42:15sitting in fifth right now behind Carson Hosovar.
42:17He said, listen, we've been better than the 77 every short run today.
42:22We will have some good tires here.
42:24Let's go take advantage of it, so we'll see how this plays out in the final few laps here from
42:29Coronado.
42:30Trevor?
42:31Kyle Larson and Corey Heim were coming down the front stretch as that caution flag flew.
42:35They did check up a little bit, which then allowed the 77 of Carson Hosovar to get by them as
42:40they exited pit road.
42:41Other than that, though, they're sitting on really good tires on that 67, pitted at lap 59 right before the
42:47caution had come out.
42:48So Corey Heim's looking to see if he can move up a few spots and maybe contend for that first
42:52cup win.
42:53A little further back, Ryan Blaney in the 12 was really fast early in this race.
42:58Got off sequence, lost some track position, got it back, and then faded with old tires.
43:03Now that he's on newer tires, pitted at lap 54, we'll see if those few laps more on the tires
43:09have a big impact on his ability to go up there and challenge as well.
43:14Man, I couldn't.
43:15Buescher pits from the lead.
43:17I mean, I can see what they're thinking, but Hamlet from third is going to have to pit.
43:22Suarez back in ninth.
43:23You know, I only have about maybe ten cars that have to pit.
43:26Yeah, this is going to be pretty fascinating to see where it ends up.
43:30Hamlet doing such a nice job.
43:31We keep talking about that points battle between him and Redick.
43:34Well, Redick currently sits eighth, but you said it, Adam.
43:39That's the tale of catching the yellow or not catching the yellow, right?
43:41Redick was on pit road.
43:43We heard Hamlet was coming to pit road.
43:44They changed their mind.
43:46Now they're wishing they would have came.
43:47The way the luck has been going lately, you would have thought Hamlet would have been on pit road when
43:52the caution came out,
43:53and Redick would not have been because Hamlet's been winning and been on the positive side of the racing luck,
44:00so to speak,
44:00taking absolutely nothing away from their performance.
44:03But in this situation, it definitely works against Hamlet.
44:06There you go.
44:06There you go.
44:07They're coming.
44:08Look at this.
44:08Pit road is open.
44:10And we have a number of takers.
44:12The game changing right here with 14 to go.
44:15Denny Hamlin in, and that caution just did not fall in their favor.
44:20No reports on the balance of that car.
44:22He's just been saving tires all day.
44:23Zane Smith on the bottom, though.
44:24Interesting call by Christian Brian Burgundy.
44:26He said, we are going to do what the 17 does.
44:29So they did exactly what Chris Buescher did, fresh tires for that car, Marty.
44:33Boy, Ken, the end of this race just got way more interesting.
44:35Buescher mentioned what Steve mentioned.
44:37We lost all of our gaps.
44:39So let's go on offense here.
44:41So Scott Graves making the call to reward his driver with that.
44:44Put him on offense.
44:45Fresh Goodyear tires.
44:46We'll see what the 17 can do.
44:48Giving up the lead, though, with 13 to go at San Diego.
44:51And bravo, Scott Graves, because that definitive decision
44:55to talk about on the radio brought so many cars to pit road.
44:58I think that really helps their strategy.
45:0016 drivers stay out.
45:02The full reset and a restart when we return to Coronado.
45:10Check out Prime's exclusive in-race feature, Key Moments, during the broadcast
45:14by clicking up on your remote.
45:16It's the easiest way to catch up on race highlights and flag changes as they happen.
45:21And if you're ever late to NASCAR on Prime, we've got you covered with Rapid Recap,
45:26where you can see all key race moments in two minutes or less.
45:31Look at that.
45:33There it is.
45:33The USS Carl Vinson.
45:35A little history lesson here.
45:37This one of 11 active U.S. Navy aircraft carriers,
45:42one of three that calls Coronado home.
45:46Named after the Georgia congressman.
45:50Did so many great things for our country.
45:54And when you think about what a small city it is, over 5,000 sailors,
45:59and I had forgotten this until we were talking to some of the crew yesterday,
46:04but they played a college basketball game on the USS Carl Vinson many years ago.
46:09I think what I've learned so much with our time out here about specifically this carrier class
46:13is when you hear 5,000 or 6,000 sailors, you know, 3,000 or 3,500 are on board
46:21to operate,
46:22you know, operate the vessel.
46:24And the other couple thousand are there to operate the air wing, all the flight operations.
46:27And it's just, it's like two completely different working cities put on the same ship.
46:33It's really unbelievable how it all gets orchestrated.
46:36Yeah, all those folks on this carrier average age on the carrier is about 20 years old.
46:41It might be the stat of the weekend right there.
46:4419-year-old steers the ship.
46:46Literally.
46:46It's crazy, yeah.
46:48You know, it's so difficult to cover an event of this magnitude.
46:52And then you think about the length of this street course, 3.4 miles.
46:56It just adds so many layers for our crew.
46:59I do want to take a minute to salute everybody, the men and women that work in front of
47:03and behind the camera, making NASCAR on Prime a possibility.
47:06Because when you do this, there are many challenges.
47:09But our group has been planning for over a year.
47:12They've been up to the task.
47:14And we thank all those who put in the countless hours, early mornings, late nights,
47:19their commitment, their dedication, the great attitudes,
47:22putting us in position to be where we are.
47:24We thank you so much.
47:28Yep.
47:33All right, big restart.
47:36Carson Hosovar gets a little break through a cycle of strategy.
47:40Caution comes out.
47:42He's in control with Larson beside him.
47:45And Hosovar chose driver's left, which will put him on the outside of turn one.
47:50He has to launch.
47:51He has to clear the five by turn one.
47:56Going to be 12 laps to go in what has become like a crown jewel event.
48:01Here we go once again at Naval Base Coronado.
48:06Pretty good launch by Larson there.
48:08Still just barely to the inside.
48:12Hosovar a little wide.
48:14Gets up a little pace.
48:15Down to top two.
48:21Larson not going away.
48:23Bubba Wallace getting aggressive.
48:24Side by side.
48:29What a day for 23-11.
48:31Three cars in the top five.
48:33Hosovar gets the lead.
48:35And here comes Redick charging from behind.
48:38Turn four over to turn five.
48:42Heim right there to be inside of the five.
48:44Side by side for second.
48:47Larson will be on the outside here.
48:49Hive trying to get down in there and fill the gaps.
48:52He's going to do it.
48:54Accelerating out of turn five.
48:56Down the straightaway.
48:57Taking the spot away from Larson.
48:59Corey Hive making a major statement today in Southern California.
49:04Bubba Wallace putting the pressure on.
49:08Ty Gibbs right there behind Bubba Wallace as we're right on board.
49:16Bubba Wallace was two laps down.
49:18Had a wheel come off.
49:19Served a penalty.
49:21Two free passes.
49:22And he's very much alive here.
49:24Racing for fourth.
49:26A little lockup right there on the 77.
49:28You see the smoke, Adam.
49:29He's trying to hold on to this lead over the 45 of Redick.
49:37Most of our great in qualifying yesterday.
49:40Late run.
49:41Put it on the front row.
49:42But playing defense now.
49:44Redick is there.
49:45And Hive getting impatient.
49:47Look at this for the race lead.
49:49He's from Northern California.
49:52But he leads now in SoCal.
49:54Tyler Redick on point.
49:56Hossumar made contact with the inside ball there.
49:58Knocked him off line.
50:00Trying to recover.
50:02Trying to get this car back up underneath him.
50:04But he's got a fast Corey Hive on his deck.
50:07You heard the radio.
50:0890%.
50:0912 laps to go.
50:10That's 40 miles.
50:11Oh, 77.
50:14Hossumar the spin.
50:15Contact.
50:16His teammate.
50:17Yeah, Chastain, nowhere to go.
50:20Chastain.
50:23Teammates for Team Chevy getting connected in the chicane.
50:27We'll see if there was...
50:28I couldn't tell if there was contact off the bumper,
50:31if he just locked up the rear tires.
50:33Either way, it's 23-11.
50:35One, two, three.
50:38Two owners.
50:39Denny Hamlin in the race.
50:41MJ.
50:42I'm not sure where he's at today, but he's stressed right now.
50:45One, two, three.
50:45Let's see.
50:46Was there contact?
50:49Just right there.
50:50Absolutely, yeah.
50:51Contact from the 67 to the 77, right in the right rear bumper.
50:54And Chastain gets contact as well, trying to avoid and slides into the 77 here.
51:02Well, we talk about how great 23-11 is.
51:05Riley Herbst back there in fifth.
51:07You see him right here checking up and avoiding this problem.
51:10What a move by Herbst.
51:12Jay Selley on his rear bumper.
51:13Quite a day for the nine.
51:15He's back to ninth.
51:16So now, 11 laps to go.
51:18That is a long run.
51:20When we started the day, we didn't know rear tires would go 11 laps.
51:23So now, what is the balance?
51:26How hard do you push?
51:27Dale, would you rather be Reddick trying to run away,
51:29why are Heim pacing yourself off the leader?
51:31Well, I don't know.
51:32I don't think most spots sound pretty good to me.
51:36You know, the thing about it is, I think Heim, you know, seems to, he knows what it's like to
51:43run up front.
51:43I don't know that Reddick has that information.
51:46Jimmy in the wall right there in turn six.
51:48This is the first time Reddick's been toward the front to really understand how, well, he might not have all
51:54the information about pace just yet.
51:56Heim does.
51:57Heim has more information about how these tires are going to do under this type of performance.
52:02And so, Reddick, he's learning this in real time.
52:05Does he overdo it?
52:06Does he push too hard and run out of tire when it really counts?
52:11Kim?
52:11And the thing to keep in mind, I've been listening to this team all day.
52:14His rears have been giving up about the middle of every single run.
52:17So, they just came on the radio, said 11 more to go.
52:20Take care of your tires.
52:21So, to your point, learning in real time about where the limit is.
52:25And if you're just tuning in and you think the same would be for Bubba Wallace, who was in the
52:28back, wasn't the case.
52:29His first run of the race, I thought he was Mr. Consistent.
52:33He ran the same lap time for nearly 11 laps and drove right to the front of the field.
52:40What a statement this would be in the championship.
52:44Reddick just ran the fastest lap of the race.
52:47Came in 19 points in front of Denny Hamlin.
52:50Hamlin had won the last three races and had that championship advantage down to 19 after it was well over
52:57100.
52:58And we thought everybody else was racing for second when it comes to the regular season title.
53:03But the 45 back in control now and can really do something positive here today in that regard.
53:10And it slides the rear tires just a little bit there on throttle out of turn four, headed to five.
53:14I've got to give 2311 the flowers.
53:16We've said, you know, they started out the season winning a lot of races.
53:19But it looked like Joe Gibbs Racing had established himself as just having a little more speed.
53:25Bubba back there under attack from Larson.
53:29Out of turn five, headed to six.
53:31But it looks like coming to this racetrack, 2311 to me has been the most competitive team next to this
53:37five car.
53:37Larson missing the corner there in the braking zone a little bit.
53:41Five of Larson has been really quick.
53:43But 2311, this Toyota team, they've unloaded with super fast cars.
53:48They've been up front all day long.
53:51One of the three or four teammates has been running up toward the front of this pack.
53:58What about that guy running second, Corey Hime, Trevor?
54:02Well, Adam, I want to talk a little bit about both of these 2311 cars.
54:05You mentioned, Dale, about Tyler Reddick knowing the pace descent versus Corey, who's been up front already.
54:10That last lap, they were over a half a second faster than the pole time.
54:14So if you're wondering how much they're riding, they are not at all right now.
54:17Corey Hime trying not to let Tyler Reddick get out of sight.
54:20I'm telling you, Bubba Wallace, I think, is the pace setter here.
54:24I think his strategy is to allow the 45 and the 67 to burn each other's stuff up.
54:30That's why Bubba was so defensive on Larson, because he wants to be the next guy in line.
54:35He's thinking to himself, you guys burn your stuff up.
54:38About three to go.
54:39I'm going to show up on the scene, ready to use what tire I have left.
54:44Just listen.
54:45Listen on board this 23.
54:46Listen to how, like, he's not being aggressive with the throttle.
54:51He's, like, saving some tire on corner exit.
54:56I thought Bubba made a major statement last July when he won the...
