00:05The juicy title of the story immediately sparked an idea, a pulp book cover with a woman embracing
00:11a mango instead of a lover. And I'm hardly the first artist to make the connection between
00:15mangos and sensuality. Check out this incredible 13th century poem by Amir Khosrow. Since I'll be
00:21working with what vintage book covers I can find on stock sites, sketching out the illustration
00:25could actually work against me in this case, I need to keep an open mind. So instead,
00:31I went on an extremely serious research trip to my local shops to put myself in the mood.
00:37How many have you had? It's for work! And with my research complete I dived straight into Getty
00:43to find pulp novel covers for collage fodder. First, I found an embracing couple and these
00:49were my two contenders for the title. Playthings of Desire won out in the end, but it was a really
00:55close goal. Next I got to work separating the lovebirds on the cover and editing this image
00:59of a mango to look like it was printed in Hafto, then assembling the two in a suitable pose along
01:05with the title. Then just a few final touches and it's done! What do you think about the finished image?
