00:00I'm Yulia, illustrator here at The Week. Let me show you how I created this illustration.
00:06The epic morning routine of our forebears happened twice. Once in the morning, as usual,
00:12and once at midnight. This is a pretty straightforward story. As far as visual
00:17representation goes, there wasn't anything that was really jumping out at me at the outset.
00:21I explored the idea of making something sequential, almost like a comic or a timeline,
00:25to represent the idea of sleeping in two blocks of time, but it wasn't really working visually for me,
00:30it was lacking impact. Not gonna lie, at this point I was starting to get a little frustrated.
00:35So I decided to work backwards. I went on a deep dive of Getty, focusing on vintage imagery,
00:40which is a firm favourite of mine, and at last I found an image that sparked something in my brain.
00:46First I'm cutting him out and giving him a twin to represent the second sleep. Then I'm just fiddling
00:52and fiddling and fiddling with the colours and the textures and the composition until it all feels
00:57just right. Honestly, the hardest part of this is just knowing when to stop. I guess it's time to stop.
01:05So here's the illustration. What do you think about the final result?
