The Rookie – Season 1 follows John Nolan, a 45-year-old man who decides to completely change his life after a traumatic event. Leaving behind his old career, he moves to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer with the LAPD. As the department's oldest rookie, Nolan faces skepticism from his superiors and fellow officers, who doubt whether he can handle the challenges of police work.

Alongside fellow rookies Lucy Chen and Jackson West, Nolan must prove that age is not a limitation while learning to survive the dangerous and unpredictable streets of Los Angeles. Season 1 combines action, drama, humor, and emotional character development as the rookies struggle to balance personal lives with the demands of law enforcement.
Transcript
00:10Good morning, Officer Nolan.
00:12Ready for another exciting day out on the streets of Los Angeles?
00:14Yep.
00:15Coffee?
00:16No thanks.
00:17I get all the rush I need for making this beautiful city of ours safer every single day.
00:21And you will too, if you join the LADP.
00:24I mean PD.
00:25Cut!
00:26Okay.
00:26And you will too.
00:29I'm sorry.
00:30What do I say again?
00:32LADP.
00:32Action.
00:33I do too.
00:34And so will you.
00:35If, as well.
00:36If you join LADP.
00:40LADP.
00:41And that's why we joined the LADP.
00:47LADP's finest.
00:49Okay guys, I know there were a few stumbles in there, yes, in the beginning.
00:53But this is Hollywood, right?
00:55They fixed that stuff in the edit.
00:56I think this video is going to make the department very proud.
00:59Sir Bradford, would you like the honor?
01:02Uh, actually sir, I think I should go to Lopez.
01:04I think the whole thing was her idea.
01:06Lopez?
01:06There is no promotional video.
01:09You got punked.
01:09You got punk.
01:18This sucks.
01:19I mean, this is awful.
01:21Everyone's doing this.
01:22Yeah.
01:23Can I get more powder?
01:24What a lot.
01:25Can you just go get me?
01:26Can I get a copy of this for my kids?
01:29Yeah.
01:29Yeah.
01:30Yeah.
01:31Yeah.
01:32Yeah.
01:33Yeah.
01:34Yeah.
01:36Yeah.
01:45This bomb is packed with C4, ball bearings, screws, broken glass.
01:49When this thing goes off, this whole room is going to turn into a blender.
01:52And guess what?
01:54If you don't die instantly, you're going to suffer fatal secondary infections because I
01:59soaked the shrapnel in my own filth.
02:04Now, you've all been taught to shoot on sight when you see a bomber, right?
02:08But you can't shoot me because I'm holding a dead man's switch.
02:12I let it go.
02:13It detonates.
02:14So your only shot at survival is to talk me into giving up.
02:20But you only have ten words to do it.
02:26Go.
02:29Ma'am, you don't want to do this.
02:31Boom.
02:31It's a slaughterhouse in here.
02:33Go.
02:34My name is Lucy Chen.
02:36Boom.
02:37The right day and use the dinner records.
02:39Boom.
02:40You just got buried in a shoebox.
02:43I can only imagine the pain you're feeling right now.
02:49You just got ten more words.
02:54Okay.
02:54So what'd you all do wrong?
02:56Officer West started mansplaining.
02:58Officer Chen wasted time by introducing herself.
03:02Officer Bradford decided to skip words altogether.
03:06They're overrated.
03:07If I'd been a hair quicker, you'd be singing my praises.
03:09But you weren't.
03:10So that means you fall into the fail category with everybody else except Officer Nolan.
03:18What did he do right?
03:21He expressed empathy.
03:22I mean, you faked it.
03:24It doesn't matter if it was real.
03:26The only thing that matters is how it comes across.
03:29Active listening plus empathy leads to a rapport, which leads to influence and ultimately behavioral change.
03:35Wow, you read my book.
03:37Twice.
03:37Oh.
03:39Okay, well, I read your file.
03:40Actually, I read all of your files.
03:42But, um, nothing in your past indicates an ability to communicate with people like that.
03:48So why do you think that you're so good at it?
03:52Because of the training I received from Officer Bishop and Sergeant Gray.
03:55Okay.
03:58Boom.
04:00You just betrayed our trust by giving me a political answer.
04:03Our rapport is ruined, and this room is now a horror movie.
04:09Oh, my goodness.
04:10I am so embarrassed.
04:11Oh, no.
04:12Look, don't be.
04:13You know, if they knew how to do it, then you wouldn't have called me to come in and train
04:16them.
04:17I still can't believe that you're a private consultant now.
04:19I mean, you were such a rock star in the Bureau.
04:22Oh.
04:23How's Luna?
04:24Great.
04:25And she's pushing me to make a change, too.
04:28Dominique's heading off to college, and...
04:30Well, you should.
04:31Look, you know, you've done your 20.
04:34You've got the scars to prove it.
04:38Could you do something new?
04:40What?
04:42What else is a guy like me going to do?
04:44Come work with me.
04:46Work for you, you mean?
04:47Okay, come on.
04:48I am not like that.
04:50You know that.
04:51Thanks.
04:52But I am nowhere near ready to have this conversation.
04:56Well, when you are, the offer will still be there.
05:00All right.
05:00Okay.
05:01All right.
05:12She's pretty impressive, huh?
05:14I'll say.
05:16Uh, why didn't you tell me she wrote a book about her years on the FBI's hostage rescue team?
05:21I would have been so much better prepared.
05:23How did you not know about it?
05:25You know what?
05:25The Academy Jackson would have been all over that.
05:27Yeah.
05:27Officer Jackson is clearly slipping.
05:30Okay.
05:30No, I'm not.
05:31It wouldn't matter if you read it or not.
05:33I'm secretly better than you.
05:34Okay.
05:35Look, well, I think that she is full of crap.
05:37I spent summer vacations running hostage scenarios, and I always beat my brother and saved the hostage.
05:42Dad said it was a gift.
05:44Dad should have sent you to camp.
05:47What's going on?
05:48Prison transport crash loaded with convicts from the courthouse.
05:53Get that gear, boo.
05:54Let's go.
05:55Yeah.
05:56Go.
06:15Hey, what happened here?
06:16Coyote ran in front of the bus.
06:18Graham swerves.
06:19We went over.
06:20How many people on board?
06:2120 prisoners.
06:23Two of the guards.
06:23Did any prisoners get away?
06:25I think so.
06:26I think so.
06:26Hey, get down there.
06:28Give me a head count.
06:30Control, this is 7L-20.
06:32I've seen the crash.
06:33I got this one.
06:33I'm declaring a citywide tactical alert.
06:35I need multiple RA's to scramble airships and call additional units from Rampart and North Hollywood.
06:40Dad.
06:40I need a hard perimeter set around the crash.
06:42Assume a 10-minute head start.
06:51I got something over here at 10 o'clock.
06:53Check it out.
06:54Be careful.
06:59Don't move.
07:00An ambulance is on its way.
07:03Can you give me a sit-rep?
07:05Seven of them escaped.
07:07They got my keys, my guns.
07:10They're about to the windshield.
07:13All units, be advised.
07:14Seven prisoners escaped from the bus.
07:15At least one is armed.
07:17Hang tight.
07:18We're going to get you out of here, okay?
07:35Police!
07:36Stop!
07:39Hey, take it easy.
07:41Easy.
07:41Easy.
07:42Easy.
07:47I need an RA unit immediately 60 yards east of the crash.
07:52Fifty-year-old male, life-threatening injuries.
07:55Okay, just stop moving, all right?
07:56Stop moving.
07:57I gotta get help.
07:58Shh.
07:59I gotta get help.
07:59Help us here.
08:00Help us here.
08:00I'm right here.
08:01Hey, what's your name?
08:03Hey, Graham.
08:05Graham, I'm John.
08:06Am I gonna die?
08:07No.
08:08No, come on.
08:09No, you're not gonna die.
08:10You're gonna be fine, okay?
08:11You're gonna be okay.
08:12You just hang on.
08:13All right?
08:14Okay?
08:15Hang on.
08:15Okay.
08:16Seven Adam-19 almost on site.
08:18Negative.
08:19We have at least seven fugitives at large and surrounding neighborhoods.
08:22Start a grid search.
08:23Coordinate with Seven Adam-13, 18, and 26.
08:27There.
08:28Seven Adam-19 in pursuit of fugitive suspects heading north on Maple.
08:35Down!
08:44Get out of your stomach.
08:45Get out of your stomach.
08:46Go.
08:47Go.
08:48Head's on your back.
08:50Okay.
08:50Okay.
08:55Seven out of 15.
08:56Where the hell is my ambulance?
08:57Tell her.
08:58Tell her.
08:59Tell who?
09:00Tell who?
09:01Tell her.
09:02I love her.
09:03Tell who?
09:06Graham, who do you want me to tell?
09:10Beth.
09:11Okay.
09:12Okay.
09:50Where's Nolan?
09:53Officer Nolan, report.
10:11Don't move!
10:12Nolan!
10:14You okay?
10:15Yes.
10:15Keep control of him.
10:27All right.
10:28Listen up.
10:29This is what we know so far.
10:31So we have seven fugitives at large.
10:34Six.
10:35Good work.
10:37Correction.
10:38We have six fugitives at large.
10:41Five.
10:42Well, at this rate, I say we'd be home for dinner, but I know better.
10:47A prisoner on foot can sustain a pace of four miles per hour, and the clock started ticking
10:5120 minutes to go.
10:52So we have a hard perimeter set up a mile out.
10:55If it was set up in time, it's just a matter of going door to door and running these fugitives
10:59down.
11:00If a fugitive gets past our perimeter, this turns from a recovery operation to a manhunt,
11:07and that puts the entire city at risk.
11:09So Bishop, Wong, Mitchell, Pelleggi, your shots will fall back and man the perimeter.
11:15Bradford, Lopez, Keegan, and Willis, you'll join the grid search inside the zone.
11:21Command will advise you on the identities of the guys you're chasing as soon as we get
11:25them.
11:25But for now, assume that they are all extremely dangerous.
11:29Let's go get them.
11:43This is the Los Angeles Police Department.
11:45For your own safety, we ask you to lock your doors and stay inside due to an ongoing emergency.
11:56License and registration, please.
12:00Pop the trunk, please.
12:05Officer Nolan.
12:13All right.
12:14Have a nice day.
12:19Hey, you sure you're okay?
12:23Before that deputy died, he asked me to pass along a message.
12:26Shouldn't I be doing that?
12:27You're doing exactly what you should be doing.
12:29Hard as it sounds, that message can wait.
12:31That bus was full of hardcore felons, desperate men.
12:35If we don't catch them quickly, somebody else could die.
12:38All right.
12:39All right.
12:52Sir, there's a shelter-in-place order in effect.
12:54We need you in your house.
12:55Okay.
13:00Oh, Tim.
13:04Whoa, whoa, whoa.
13:05Get your hands where I can see them.
13:06Now.
13:07No, stay right there.
13:08It's okay.
13:09We got permits for the weapons and our ammo is stored separately, so it's legal.
13:13I don't care if it's legal.
13:14No good's gonna come from you guys running around here with assault rifles.
13:17We heard prisoners were on the loose.
13:19We got a right to protect our neighborhood.
13:20Yeah, that's a job for law enforcement, not a ragtag militia.
13:24Got one.
13:25Got a future.
13:25Hey, get off me.
13:26Now they do anything.
13:27Officers, please.
13:28Hey, let him go.
13:29That's not who we're looking for.
13:30I kept telling him that.
13:32You sure?
13:32He looks guilty as hell to me.
13:34At least check his papers.
13:35Let him go.
13:36Right now.
13:37Are you okay?
13:38No.
13:39You should be arresting them.
13:40Hey, screw that.
13:41The law says we're allowed to defend our neighborhood when in grave danger.
13:43I was trimming ahead.
13:45All right, look, that's enough.
13:46Get back.
13:47Look, as bigoted as they are, they thought they were making a citizen's arrest, so they haven't broken the law.
13:52But their names will be in our report, so if you'd like to sue them for emotional damages, you can.
13:57Hey, how about we just all go back and secure our home fronts?
14:01No word feelings?
14:05Fine.
14:06If I find out that you're back out here again, I'll have you arrested for violating California Penal Codes 372
14:11and 647B.
14:12You got that?
14:20647B is the code for prostitution.
14:22They don't know that.
14:24All units possible.
14:25Fugitive siding.
14:26Parking garage.
14:27One, nine, five, five, eight, Sunset Boulevard.
14:29Guy in orange jumpsuit took a bunch of keys right up the ramp.
14:38Seven out of seven shows code six on fugitive suspect.
15:01Police!
15:02You're up to anything and get out of the car now!
15:05Show me your hands!
15:07Open the door from the outside!
15:10Get down on your stomach!
15:13What's her name?
15:15Oscar Hutchinson.
15:17Control, we have Fugitive Hutchinson in custody.
15:20I was only running because I thought the bus was gonna explode.
15:23Uh-huh.
15:23Is that why you stole the car, too?
15:25I always loved driving.
15:28I've been locked up for decades.
15:30I was kind of hoping to get a little me time in before you guys caught me.
15:34I hope it was enough, because this sentence is only gonna get longer now.
15:37Oh, I'm in forever, Sun.
15:39Every moment out here is great.
15:43You're free to go.
15:52License and registration, please.
16:00Okay there, Mr. Bernstein?
16:03Yeah.
16:04Yes.
16:05Well, where are you coming from today?
16:08Preschool.
16:11We're looking for some men to escape from prison.
16:13You haven't seen anyone like that, have you?
16:15No, sir.
16:17Would you pop the trunk for me?
16:20What?
16:27I need you to pop the trunk.
16:56Mr. Bernstein, so sorry to take up your time today.
17:00Thank you for your cooperation.
17:03Have a nice day.
17:11You let him go?
17:13No way to save that kid.
17:14And what if you're wrong?
17:27We're clear.
17:32I did what you wanted, now give me my daughter.
17:35You can take my car.
17:43Drop your gun!
17:53Try our goodness first.
17:54Three more fugitives were apprehended, leaving just two at large.
17:58But those two are going to be held to catch.
18:00Which is why I command and ask Jessica Russo to assist us.
18:03Jessica?
18:04Yeah, so at this point we're going to have to assume that these guys have gotten past the perimeter,
18:08which means that we're going to have to get inside their heads to figure out where they're going to go.
18:12Predictive analytics.
18:15You sound skeptical.
18:16No, ma'am.
18:17I just found the best way to catch a criminal is to hit the streets.
18:20Well, that's because you have no experience doing it any other way.
18:22Marcus Gibson, only 24 years old, but he's been a member of the 54th Street Gang for over a decade.
18:28He was recently sentenced to 12 years in Victorville for aggravated assault and attempted murder.
18:33The 5-4 will do everything they can to help them get away.
18:35Including spiriting him out of the state.
18:37I've got a contact inside the 5-4 that might be able to give us some insight.
18:40Go talk to him.
18:41Okay, good.
18:42Our next fugitive is Caleb Jost.
18:45He is, in my opinion, the more dangerous of the two.
18:48He is 44 years old, a former investment banker.
18:51Sentenced five years for securities fraud and another eight for biting off the nose of his deputy AG during his
18:56arrest.
18:57He is testament to the fact that psychopaths can carry a briefcase as easily as a grab bag.
19:01The FBI believes Caleb has significant resources before he was arrested.
19:05Which he's going to need to avoid going back to prison.
19:07So we have to dig into the FBI leads and figure out the location of that money before he gets
19:12there.
19:12That's exactly right.
19:13Are you up for the challenge, Officer Nolan?
19:15Yes, ma'am.
19:16Okay, great.
19:17Then you and Officer Bishop can stay with me while everybody else runs down more obvious leads.
19:21Okay.
19:22All right, here we go.
19:23Grand theft auto.
19:25Really?
19:26I barely made it a hundred yards.
19:28There isn't a distance requirement.
19:29You stole a car.
19:30Which means we gotta process you before we ship you back to prison.
19:33Hey, I'm not complaining.
19:34It's places like the Ritz compared to Victorville.
19:37Get him squared away while I contact the sheriff's department about procedure.
19:41You know the drill.
19:42Take your shoes off.
19:46West?
19:47I knew a West in my youth.
19:51Percy.
19:53Any relation?
19:54Yeah.
19:55It's my dad.
19:56Oh, yeah?
19:58Yeah, I guess I see the resemblance.
20:01You must have got your tall jean from your mom's.
20:04So what, my old man arrested you?
20:05Yeah, well, it was a little bit more complicated than that.
20:08How so?
20:09Well, this was the 90s.
20:10The streets were different back then.
20:12And your dad was going after some pretty big players.
20:14He didn't always sweat the small stuff.
20:17So you're saying he let you go?
20:18Uh, yeah.
20:19Depending on the day.
20:20I'd give him a little intel.
20:21He'd look the other way, but not before messing with me.
20:24This one time, he caught me with some dope.
20:27He told me if I could outrun him, he'd cut me loose.
20:30My dad's pretty fast.
20:31You know, he tied.
20:32I was like 20 pounds lighter back then.
20:34And I was high on crank, you know?
20:36I'm sorry, but this does not sound like my dad.
20:39We were all gangsters back then, son.
20:41Criminals and 5-0 alike.
20:44What's predictive analytics?
20:45Using data from the past to predict the future.
20:48Feds love that kind of stuff.
20:49They'd rather sit in front of a computer than hit the streets
20:51and scuff their loafers.
20:52Still, if it helps solve a crime or find a fugitive,
20:55isn't it worth using?
20:56Whose side are you on?
20:57I didn't know there were sides.
20:58But yours, definitely yours.
20:59Deacon, thanks for coming in.
21:01No problem.
21:01I figured I'd be hearing from you today.
21:03Hey.
21:04Hey.
21:05Deacon Joe.
21:06This is Jen.
21:07I'm Bradford's next victim.
21:08I remember when your T.O. was the one
21:10wearing the long sleeves.
21:11Oh.
21:11You got pictures?
21:13I like her.
21:14I'm thrilled.
21:15Deacon was my first arrest.
21:17Also one of the few to be rehabilitated
21:18in maximum security prison.
21:20Man, I swear to God.
21:21Every time I see you, it's like a time machine.
21:23I mean, since we met at the 60s in Chino,
21:26got clean, left to life, started up a family,
21:29the only thing that changed about you
21:30is the lines in your face.
21:31What lines?
21:32Mm-hmm.
21:33If you were expecting to hear from me,
21:34then you know why you're here.
21:36Marcos Gibson.
21:37Look, I need to get to him
21:37before he hooks up with the 5-4.
21:39Yeah, Marcos was one of my kids for a while.
21:41I lost him to the 5-4.
21:42But they're the last place he's gonna go right now.
21:45Why?
21:45He was knocking boots with Keon's woman,
21:47right before the trial.
21:49Who's Keon?
21:49The leader of the 5-4.
21:51This kid must have a death wish.
21:52Yeah, if Keon gets a hold of Marcos
21:53before you guys do, he'll kill him.
21:59Officer Bishop, any update on Caleb Jost?
22:01Uniforms have visited his entire extended family.
22:04No one's seen or heard from him.
22:05If we believe they're telling the truth.
22:06Exactly.
22:08Um, just give me a sec.
22:12Excuse me.
22:14Did you know that deputy who died?
22:16Graham?
22:18Yeah.
22:18My condolences.
22:20He asked me to pass a message along to his wife.
22:24I just need to know how to get in touch with her.
22:25Graham wasn't married.
22:27Oh, um, maybe a girlfriend then?
22:30Her name is Beth?
22:32Graham was single.
22:34He never even brought a date to the Christmas party.
22:38You sure?
22:39Yeah.
22:40Graham was a bit of a loner.
22:42We, uh...
22:44We, uh, used to give him a hard time about it.
22:47Okay.
22:48Um, thanks.
22:50Yeah.
22:54Did you find something?
22:55Oh.
22:56Um, no.
22:57That was a bit of a side project.
23:00Okay.
23:00Well, it's not really the appropriate time for that.
23:02Of course.
23:02You're right.
23:03But, um...
23:04But what?
23:05I-I was with the deputy when he died.
23:08He asked me to give a message to someone named Beth.
23:11And now it turns out he's single.
23:14Uh, well, a mom?
23:16Or a sister, maybe?
23:17Uh, maybe.
23:18It sounded romantic.
23:22And, uh, anyway, I should be getting back to work.
23:25This death must have been traumatic for you.
23:28I'm fine.
23:30Boom.
23:31Lying destroys rapport, remember.
23:34Right.
23:38His leg was torn off in the accident.
23:40I wasn't expecting to see that.
23:44You know, I will never forget the first catastrophic injury that I saw.
23:51But at least you have something positive to focus on.
23:55If you need any help finding her, please let me know.
24:00I think I might have found something.
24:02I ran a search of names from Caleb's life against recent dispatch calls.
24:05Discovered a wellness check that was called in for the aunt of Caleb's ex-wife.
24:09I guess she's a daily chargegoer, but she didn't show up today.
24:13Uh, she could have just gone to the movies or maybe planned to go later.
24:16Maybe.
24:17Or her routine was disturbed by a visit from our fugitive.
24:21Good work, Officer Bishop.
24:23Go check that out.
24:30Prison transport would be here soon.
24:32Lucky me.
24:34Hey, listen, you see your old man, tell him I said hi.
24:37And I haven't forgotten.
24:41Forgotten what?
24:42The .45 you planted.
24:44Reason I'm doing life in prison.
24:45Saying that my dad framed you?
24:47Well, no.
24:47We were good while I was informing on guys.
24:50I think he made some pretty heavy busts.
24:52But when I stopped being useful,
24:55cops found a murder weapon in my apartment.
24:57Let me guess.
24:58For a crime that you didn't commit?
25:00No, I killed that dude.
25:02He says there wasn't any evidence.
25:03Not until your daddy planted a gun on me.
25:07Bet you haven't heard that story at the dinner table.
25:18Hey, uh, have you seen Lopez?
25:20Oh, uh, yeah.
25:21She's in the bullpen talking to Tim,
25:22and I'm just getting us some fuel before we hit the street.
25:26You okay?
25:27Yeah.
25:29Uh, no, um, I-I don't know.
25:32This fugitive we grabbed has been getting under my skin.
25:35Basically said that my dad was a dirty cop back in the day.
25:37What, your dad?
25:38No way.
25:39That guy's just trying to push your buttons.
25:41Right?
25:41Yeah.
25:41Commander West says I.A.
25:43This guy is...
25:43He's an ex-drug dealer who is doing life for murder.
25:47See?
25:48Case closed.
25:50Um, when you put it that way, I don't even know why I was worried.
25:53Yeah.
25:53I mean, your grandma, on the other hand,
25:54I heard she cut a bitch for a dollar back in the day.
25:56Back in the day?
25:57Hell, that woman will cut a bitch now.
25:59Hey, you, uh, you think I've changed since you met me?
26:03Yeah, more annoying.
26:04I'm serious.
26:05Have I changed at all?
26:06Sure.
26:07How?
26:09What do you mean?
26:09You're older?
26:10What you went through with Isabel certainly changed you.
26:13Made me different, or just made me more me?
26:15What's this about?
26:17Just wondering if I've been treading water a little.
26:20You know, not challenging myself.
26:22Since when does Tim Bradford do introspection?
26:25Never mind.
26:26Hey, we got a plan of action to find Marcos?
26:28They hit the streets, sweat some more of his people.
26:30I'll see you later.
26:32Hey, Bradford.
26:34You've also gotten dumber.
26:35Does that count?
26:39What was that about?
26:40Inside joke.
26:43Hot damn.
26:44What was that?
26:44Text from Deacon.
26:46Scott Marcos.
26:50It's number 2354.
26:52Is Caleb's connection to this place again?
26:54His ex-wife's aunt lives here.
26:56Was the ex in ex before he went over to prison or after?
26:58After, I think.
26:59What does it matter?
27:00Well, if they were still married when he went to prison,
27:02there's a good chance he'd get some money here.
27:04Which would give him reason to come here after getting through our perimeter.
27:07But this is the house.
27:10Okay, tactical recommendation.
27:11Knock or recon?
27:13Recon?
27:14This guy bites off noses.
27:15I don't wanna get surprised by him.
27:17I'll go low.
27:24Bishop.
27:26Do a chance, please.
27:277 Adam 15.
27:29Requesting backup at 2354 Sawyer.
27:31Location of possible fugitive suspect Caleb Jost.
27:34You're just a little confused.
27:351
27:352
27:411
27:523
27:542
27:56I don't know.
28:25It's over, Caleb.
28:34You know, I've had a little stupid take me up and Sally, but I'm feeling pretty good about it now.
28:39Hey! Stay back! Or I am repainting the walls in here crimson.
28:45Come on, Caleb. You're too smart a guy to be pulling that trigger.
28:50Right now, you're looking at aggravated assault.
28:51That might add a couple years to your sentence, but if you killed her...
28:54Stop! Stop trying to reason with me.
28:58I hate prison.
29:00If I got a shot at not going back, I'm gonna take it.
29:03So back the hell up!
29:06And get me someone who can make a deal, or I am pulling this trigger.
29:20Control, show us on site at 1115 Amberdard Street.
29:27Damn it.
29:29The 5-4 must have heard Mark was at Deacon's house.
29:32What do I do?
29:33Keep your cool and get ready for trouble.
29:42Hello, officer.
29:44Lovely evening.
29:46Sure is.
29:48What are you guys doing out here?
29:50I know.
29:51Just exercising our constitutional right to assemble.
29:54God bless America.
29:56Mm-hmm.
29:57Well, I suggest you all assemble somewhere else.
30:00Is that an order?
30:03Consider it a little friendly advice.
30:06Well, we appreciate you looking out for us, officer.
30:09But we ain't going nowhere.
30:13Then maybe I'll see you later.
30:15Count on it.
30:35Control, pass me through to 7L-20.
30:387M-19, report.
30:39We got a bit of a situation here, Sergeant.
30:42Approximately 15 gang members are gearing up to take out our fugitive.
30:45Marcos Gibson.
30:47Jen and I made it through their lines, but the 5-4's got to come after this guy, too.
30:51I just sent all available units to Nolan's hostage situation over in Culver City.
30:55But I will reorient some back to you.
30:58Sir, this is a family neighborhood.
31:01If bullets start flying, a lot of kids are going to get hurt.
31:04What do you say in Bradford?
31:08Have the units stage away from our location until overwhelming force arrives.
31:12Anything less than that's going to come with a body count.
31:15We'll do our best with what we've got until then.
31:28What are the odds they'll change their minds and leave?
31:42What are we going to do?
31:48Let's start with you letting us in.
31:53First time I've ever been happy to see cops.
31:54Hook them up, boot.
31:55What?
31:55Well, hang on.
31:57I've got to keep my hands free in case I've got to fight.
31:58I had to break it to you, but if this gets to fighting, your hands aren't going to help.
32:01Turn around.
32:02Turn around.
32:03Now.
32:04Can we escape out the back?
32:05No, no.
32:05They've got guys out there, too.
32:06A song with Kion rolled up.
32:08Bring him out!
32:11You know we're in there.
32:12You scared!
32:13Right, Paco?
32:14You'll be here all night.
32:15You've been a creature tonight like this for when you're here.
32:16Get that little puck on out.
32:18Bring him out of it, baby!
32:19So how does someone go from financial crimes to this?
32:22I'm an overachiever.
32:25Where's my negotiator?
32:26On the way.
32:28You can talk to me while we wait.
32:30You're a nobody.
32:32I want a somebody with authority.
32:37How you doing?
32:38I'm a little stressed.
32:39Only a little?
32:40Well, then you're fine.
32:42Who are you?
32:44Smart setup.
32:46SWAT can't shoot you through the windows,
32:47and we can't rush you from the doorways without you pulling the trigger.
32:51You my negotiator?
32:52Nope.
32:57You're not?
32:58No, I'm only here to advise.
33:00Besides, guys like that, you have to keep off balance.
33:04Well, that wasn't in your book.
33:05Well, I can't give away all my secrets.
33:07So what do we do here?
33:08Okay, good question.
33:09So I reread Kayla's file on the way over here.
33:12And?
33:13And?
33:18You don't say much, do you?
33:19If you kill that woman, I'm going to shoot you in the face.
33:22A lot.
33:25It's good to know.
33:27Okay, Caleb.
33:28Here's the thing.
33:30After a brief discussion with my associate,
33:31we've come to the conclusion that you're full of crap.
33:34You're not suicidal.
33:35You're a narcissist.
33:37Stuck in a chimney.
33:38With no chance for escape.
33:41Hey, hey, hey!
33:42Stay back!
33:47The only way you get out of this room alive
33:50is if you give up right now.
34:04Get up.
34:06Turn around.
34:08Hands behind your head.
34:09Don't you lace your fingers.
34:10Other one.
34:11Come on.
34:11Your other hand.
34:13You're under arrest.
34:15That took guts, Officer Nolan.
34:17You said when push comes to shove, he'd surrender?
34:20Well, yeah, but I could have been wrong.
34:29There's going to be a lot of paperwork for you, Booth.
34:31Seriously?
34:31That's what you're thinking about right now?
34:37Hypothetically, is there ever a scenario
34:38where we just, you know, give them what they want?
34:41Where we, you know, balance one life
34:44against the lives of many lives
34:45and make that hard call?
34:49That call isn't ours to make.
34:51Look, we're here to serve and protect.
34:53We don't get to decide who we serve or who we protect.
34:56So you're willing to die for that guy?
34:59I am unwilling to let fear make me do something
35:01I'll be ashamed of in the light of day.
35:04Oh, hey, where are you going?
35:06I'm going to talk.
35:08Damn it!
35:21Stay here.
35:22No matter what happens to me, you protect him.
35:24I will.
35:29Hey!
35:30Leave him alone.
35:32If you want to beat someone up,
35:34I'm right here.
35:35The only one I want is Marcos.
35:37You give him up?
35:38We out of here.
35:39I can't do that.
35:40Look, I got no beef with you or Joe.
35:42But that fool in there,
35:44he was creeping with my old lady.
35:45So he gots to get dealt with.
35:48Don't give up.
35:50You alone?
35:51Outnumbered?
35:55You know, it was pointed out to me today
35:58that I've been doing patrol a long time.
36:00Maybe too long.
36:01You know, I've seen a lot of friends move up and on,
36:04promotions, other agencies.
36:05I don't give a damn, Kyle.
36:06You should.
36:07Because one thing I've learned all these years
36:09is that I'm never alone.
36:11And I'm never outnumbered.
36:23You're under arrest.
36:24Turn around, get down at your knees.
36:27Turn around.
36:29Hands behind your head.
36:39Call it in, boot.
36:40Seven out of 19, last fugitive in custody.
36:43Show a code for him.
36:54Tell your old man I said hi.
36:56Yeah, I don't think I will.
36:58Why, afraid of what he might say?
37:00Nope.
37:00I just don't want to bother him with a bunch of nonsense.
37:03Oh, you don't believe me?
37:04That's cool.
37:05Every kid should worship their dad.
37:08But if you want to find out the truth about him,
37:11read my file.
37:15What was that about?
37:17Nothing.
37:18I hope.
37:21Your partner's crazy.
37:23Not my partner.
37:24She's my T.O.
37:25What the hell does that mean?
37:27Oh, you got some time on your hands, Caleb?
37:29Look it up.
37:30You ready for it, Elizabeth?
37:31Yeah.
37:37Elizabeth?
37:39Yeah?
37:41Anyone call you Beth?
37:44Why?
37:46Did you know Graham, the deputy who passed away?
37:50Well, yeah.
37:52Well, we worked together for the last five years.
37:56I was with him when he died.
37:58He asked me to pass a message along to Beth.
38:01What message?
38:03He told me to tell her he loved her.
38:08You're lying.
38:10No, that's the last thing he said.
38:14Is that you?
38:15Were you together?
38:18He was, um...
38:21my friend.
38:24There was a time that I, um...
38:27I thought he'd ask me out.
38:29I wanted him, too.
38:33He never did.
38:37I think he regretted that in the end.
38:42I'm sorry for your loss.
38:46Thanks.
38:54You sure you still want me to come to dinner?
38:56I mean, it's been a bit of a day.
38:59Wife's orders.
39:00I bring you or I don't come home.
39:03Hey.
39:03Oh, so I can come back.
39:06No.
39:06What's on your mind?
39:10I, um...
39:11I was thinking about taking the sergeant's exam.
39:15Really?
39:16You think it's a bad idea?
39:18I think it's about time.
39:20I hear there might be some openings coming up.
39:24The test is in a couple months.
39:26That means you've got to cram a hell of a lot of study in to get ready.
39:29You up for it?
39:30Otherwise, you have to wait two years for the next exam.
39:33Yeah.
39:33I am.
39:35Thanks.
39:36No problem.
39:37It's nice to meet you.
39:38Yes.
39:44What?
39:44You mean what?
39:46Oh, come on.
39:47Don't look at me like that.
39:48Hanging my business out there like that?
39:50Oh, stop it.
39:51Whatever.
39:51I miss pushing your buttons.
39:53I don't.
39:54Pleasure.
39:57Hey.
39:58Hi.
39:58Did you ever find her?
40:00Your best?
40:02Yeah, I did.
40:03Good.
40:05Uh, you know, you were wrong.
40:08Uh, excuse me?
40:10You said there was nothing in my past to indicate I could connect with people in high-stress
40:14situations.
40:15I mean, obviously, negotiating with a suicide bomber is stressful, but honestly, you need
40:20to try telling a single mother of four that her kitchen is delayed because her tile's
40:23on back order, or convincing a bank to give you an extra week to come up with a mortgage.
40:28I guess I had never thought of it that way.
40:31Well, now you do.
40:32Yes, I do.
40:38Um, I'm going to get going.
40:39Right.
40:40Yeah.
40:42Uh.
40:43Sorry.
40:44One last thing.
40:46Could I get you to sign my book?
40:49I know it's nerdy, but honestly, I've never actually met someone who's written a book before.
40:54Sure.
40:54Yes, of course.
40:56Um, I-I need a pen.
40:59No, please.
41:01Okay.
41:07Thank you for this.
41:12There you are.
41:14All right.
41:16Have a good night, Officer Nolan.
41:17And good work today.
41:19Thanks.
41:20You too.
41:34Hello.
41:36Too soon?
41:40Yeah.
42:21Damn it.
