00:39the first thing i need to do after confirming the bulb is broken is to check the internal components
00:46to do that i have to remove the plastic cover of the led bulb this plastic cover is usually fixed
00:53tightly with glue so i'll use a knife to cut around it
01:05then i'll gently squeeze the side so the glue underneath loosens allowing me to remove the
01:11cover more easily and right here in front of you is the led circuit board of the bulb the yellow
01:19parts are the led chips when an led bulb fails the problem is often caused by one of these chips
01:26so i'll check them first here i prepared a safety pin a familiar item in every household
01:34especially on work desks it's also very easy to find at bookstores
01:42after cutting off the locking part i'll file one end to make it sharp
01:54almost done i'll keep filing until it's really sharp
02:04now the tip of the pin is sharp enough
02:10this is a battery holder and it has two wires corresponding to the positive and negative
02:15terminals i'll strip off some insulation at the ends of both wires
02:27i'll wrap the copper core around the pin
02:43the round part of the pin will be cut off what i need are just two sharp metal probes
03:04after wrapping the copper i'll slide a piece of heat shrink tubing over the connection
03:08to protect the joint between the wire and the metal pin
03:12then i'll heat it with a lighter so it shrinks tightly around the joint
03:19i'll do the same for the black wire
03:32here i also have a 9b battery which fits perfectly with the battery holder to supply power
03:39now i have a testing tool for checking the led chips in the bulb the two sharpened metal pins will
03:45act as probes
03:48to make testing easier i'll mount the bulb onto
03:52this lamp holder so it stays in place
03:59and now i'll check each led one by one remember that we must touch the correct polarity of a 9b
04:06battery to the two terminals of each led chip red wire for positive black wire for negative
04:13this way current will flow from the battery into the led if the led is fine it will light up
04:20if it doesn't then that led is the culprit behind the failure
04:27because these leds are connected in series whenever one led fails it interrupts the current and all the others
04:34will stop working as well
04:50finally i found the faulty led to avoid confusion i'll mark it
05:04this is a metal pry tool which i'll use to lift the led board of the bulb so i can
05:09repair it
05:18i'll cut the two wires here make sure to cut them as close to the led board as possible
05:24so the wires stay long enough
05:45here i have an old led board that i saved from another completely broken bulb
05:51the leds are similar so i can use one as a replacement
05:57but first i need to check which of the leds on this old board are still working
06:08and very quickly i found a good replacement led
06:11i'll mark it's polarity to avoid confusion during installation
06:27i'll also mark the polarity on the faulty board
06:46i prepare a candle here it will help me remove and replace the led chip

07:00now i'll secure the candle onto a wooden base
07:16these led chips are attached to the circuit using solder
07:19or special adhesive by heating them over the flame the solder or glue melts making it easy to remove the

07:56now it's time to remove the replacement led
08:21i'll place it exactly where the faulty led was
08:24making sure the orientation is correct and carefully aligned
08:37then i'll heat again the leftover solder or adhesive will melt and bond replacement
08:54and just like that the new led chip has been secured and the replacement is complete
09:05i'll wipe the underside of the board clean where it was blackened by the flame
09:28back to this part of the bulb i'll strip a little insulation off the ends of the wires
09:46now all that's left is to reconnect the led board to its original position
