00:00There are plenty of inventions we love, air conditioning, donuts, but there is one invention
00:04that we despise. Have you always wondered the origin of the alarm clock? We curse it, we smash
00:12it, we throw it across the room, but it keeps coming back. But once we existed in a much simpler
00:17time, we rose with the sunrise or the call of the rooster. That is until the industrial revolution.
00:24Now, you may think this is where the alarm clock comes in, but not quite yet. First,
00:28humanity invented one of the most bizarre professions ever. Real human beings were paid
00:34to walk around before sunrise and knock on your window. In 1787, one of the first mechanical alarm
00:39clocks was invented. It only rang at 4 a.m., but later, in 1847, we saw the first adjustable alarm
00:46clock. Now, for the first time in history, you could choose exactly when you wanted your dreams
00:51destroyed. Always wondered. Stream it now, wherever you get your podcasts.
