00:00Sort of casting a little bit of doubt on Christian Gonzalez getting this contract from the Patriots.
00:05Mike Giardi wrote over the weekend on Boston Sports Journal.
00:08He said, I don't know how this Christian Gonzalez situation will play out.
00:13As we discussed on the All 32 pod with Andrew Callahan, maybe that was part of that conversation.
00:19Whatever.
00:20Giardi says the Patriots will almost certainly have to do something with A.J. Brown's contract
00:24because he only has $4 million in guarantees for 2027.
00:29You don't trade a first and fifth to be a one-and-done scenario.
00:33That will be big money.
00:35May is eligible for his massive extension next offseason.
00:38That means that if the Pats pay Gonzalez what he's worth,
00:41they'll have three guys at or near the top of the market.
00:45Ownership has never done that before.
00:47They should, but until they do, I'm dubious, says Giardi.
00:51Should be dubious.
00:52How about you, Murray? You have a thought on this?
00:55I just don't.
00:55So I had this sent to me by a buddy of mine who loves crunching numbers.
00:59So as of earlier this month, June 2nd, there were 18 NFL teams which had at least two players
01:04with an APY of at least $27 million for next season.
01:07And eight teams that had three or four.
01:09The Patriots have one, and it's A.J. Brown.
01:11So, I mean, if teams are paying three or four players crazy money, including their quarterback,
01:16top salaries, the Patriots have no excuse to not pay someone else, including their quarterback.
01:22They're going to have to do that next year with Drake May, but they should start by paying
01:24Christian Gonzalez.
01:25They don't have an excuse here.
01:26They have one guy making crazy money, and they just traded for him.
01:29That's A.J. Brown.
01:31Two teams with four players, Bengals, Lions, six teams with three players.
01:34I mean, everyone else is paying their guys.
01:36Jump on board, especially coming off a year where you just went to the Super Bowl
01:39when no one expected it.
01:40Hear, hear.
