00:00and then some trade stuff which we love yeah so collinwood has been heavily linked to brisbane
00:06premiership star locky neal deciding his free agency year whether to go back to wa to be closer
00:11to family even sa as well where he's got some family members there but they've come in with a
00:16massive offer my understanding is according to herald's son and john ralph yep um which is pretty
00:21pretty big so i think it's a million for three years over three years so could total to up to
00:26three million dollars but the interesting fact was he was keen to actually get back and reunite with
00:31the dockers the club who initially drafted him and he played a grand final four in 2013 as the sub
00:37and they had an offer and an understanding that it could have been a deal done but it looks like
00:41colinwood might have blown them out of the water so if he tends if he chooses to leave it could
00:45be to the pies which would be a huge bonus for nick dacos and craig mcrae's mantra of getting in
00:53ready
00:53made players to continue contending it's uh i like how frio aren't like they're not playing
00:59this too hard i don't think he needs to go to free and i don't think frio would really want
01:03him
01:04no like what we've seen with erasmus and johnson over the last few weeks in the absence of sarong
01:09um is that they've got enough midfield cattle i don't really need anything anywhere which is kind
01:13of a good thing and just try and pay pay you good players for the pies at first when you
01:18read three
01:18mil it's probably a little too much but then by the end of that deal like let's say he might
01:24be
01:24worth more than a mil next year but then at the end of the deal he might be on a
01:27little bit less than
01:28a mil and by 2020 what are we talking nine that's like it's not going to be that high in
01:34in the salary
01:35cap yeah if you're on just under a mil if he's on 800 900 if he takes 1.2 this
01:40year one mil second
01:41year and then 800k in the last year that 800k will be maybe a pretty good price it just he
01:47could be
01:48pretty banged up by then um but gee it just kind of says where collingwood think they're at
01:53it's it's bold and they've been like that for a while especially on mcrae and i think they've got
01:59to try something because if they don't and they fear the cliff that everyone keeps talking about and
02:05once you go there you could fall into the realm of a north melbourne and essendon or do what richmond
02:10did and kind of move on a lot of players i think um it was also fascinating if it's a
02:15three-year deal
02:16so that's 27 28 29 so his deal would finish you likely think his career would finish at the end
02:21of 2029 when day costs nick day costs his contract is also out so that could really that could really
02:27be a if it doesn't work with these two over the next three years like that could be nick being
02:32like
02:32all right well yeah well i think tazzy's there for me i think it's a fair assessment to make that
02:37they're
02:37making sure that their best player their market player who is probably the best in the competition
02:41is looked after in terms of contending for flags so financially and everything away from football
02:46i'm sure he'll be sorted um in terms of marketing and sponsorships and all that but obviously he
02:50wants to win flags he won one in his second season he's been in finals i think three out of
02:54four years
02:55that he's played at the pie so with when you've got the best player in the competition you as a
02:59club
03:00and especially one of colinwood's gravity you need to make sure that you're doing everything you can to
03:05contend and there's so many mechanisms now where you can do that now when let's play a lot lucky
03:10neil two-time panelist comes to your doorstep without any trade behind him given the fact
03:14he's an unrestricted free agent if you have the salary cap to do it which colin would have confirmed
03:19they can well who are yeah who else they're paying like well no one yeah like nick's probably taking
03:24up a fair bit and that was on it to be fair he's on a deal that he signed a
03:28while ago yeah i think
03:29everyone was probably expecting him to be on a similar trajectory to what he's on now but even then
03:32he's probably getting underpaid what is that like a five-year deal yeah it would have been i think we
03:37had
03:38a four-year deal when he joined through the draft that's crazy so it's at 22 to 26 so he's
03:43still in
03:44his that's all standard right usually it's like a three father-son picks you can kind of and kind
03:48of add a couple years but what's that that's 22 23 24 and 25 so he's currently is in the
03:54first year
03:54he's non first compasing and then in the first year of his next contract and that'll be 26 to 29
04:00which
04:01is four years yeah um so yeah he'd be interesting with what he's on and who else is getting paid
04:09but
04:09obviously they can afford i mean money for neil can you get a better player or a better long-term
04:13player well i think that's the thing they don't want long-term they want to struggle because
04:19well that's requires trade which colin would don't have that's a good point yep that's why i think colin
04:24has been pretty open with free agents because they don't have the trade capital to actually
04:30successfully lure a badly huffer which probably would cost just say two first rounds and maybe one
04:35that's later in the pace whereas locky neil or if it was a ben king if you throw the kitchen
04:41sink at
04:41them make them turn their heads they might actually do so but even if you get locky neil i still
04:48think the
04:49cliff is because like you still so say you get locky neil right and you keep dacos so over the
04:54next three years you might lose pendlebury uh how's how it's crisp crisp he's got a few more
05:03years he wants to play to 40 but he probably could to be honest he probably could to go like
05:07even if
05:08you add in locky neil's to that mix i still think it's not a good in good shape so and
05:13you have dacos
05:14there as well and like i know you have all these young guys and stuff too but i don't know
05:17the devil's
05:18advocate to that and before we move on is that the kicking the can down the road
05:24is what colinwood are trying to do in the sense that you bring in players now and you contend now
05:29and then you worry about it later what that will do is when you're contending clubs want to go there
05:34and there's now the traditional rebuild is almost non-existent in terms of the success rate north
05:40been down the bottom for 10 years and they're still struggling yeah richmond although they've got all
05:43these young players they're backing on the fact that they're going to pop at the same time if not get
05:48picked off by rival clubs so colinwood have a call there and they've got a call around nick dacos got
05:52josh dacos
05:53biggest club in the land they've got some other really good players as well if they can keep
05:56topping up with players although they might not be premature genuine premiership contenders they'll
06:01remain around the mark until you get more players until you get more players and that's now that's
06:06the mode that they're going in because if they were to drop to where essendon is and where richmond is
06:11it's a it's almost impossible to come back up whereas geelong have and sydney have done created the
06:17perfect model in terms of yeah you might draft a couple winners here and there but you're bringing
06:22in ready-made established talent to keep you you know between to say the top 10 or top 8 clubs
06:29in
06:29the competition and you might dip one year but then you pop again like sydney have gone from grand final
06:34to missing finals to grand final yeah to missing finals to now second on the ladder i think it
06:38depends on the club though because like collingwood obviously can lure talent but there are like brisbane
06:44i feel like with the last team that truly bottomed out and then rebuilt back up and now they've got
06:49back-to-back flags but now but now look at them so they're now losing players so like neil was
06:53speaking about zach bally we think he's going to go to adelaide but they brought in sam draper oscar
06:57allen yeah through free agency yeah and yes they lost brandon starswich and now they're just recycling
07:01players and that's why you set up that kind of style because the traditional rebuild of oh we've got
07:05to bottom out like essendon and now richmond are doing is almost impossible to to actually achieve i think
07:11richmond's going to be the sort of test case to see if you can true because they've truly bottomed out
07:16and then rebuilt yeah north did but they didn't do it aggressive enough they got rid of experienced
07:22players when they didn't need to and then they kind of meandered through the draft which went up
07:26we're getting rid of people with currency and we're getting in seven picks inside the top 30.
07:31issue with collingwood as well is they can't bottom out like they can't start looking at a rebuild with
07:36tassie 12 months away yeah the option is that we have to contend and with dacos on the list you
07:40can't go we're rebuilding with nah it just doesn't work so yeah
