00:00Summer show is your opportunity to help out someone who has a question and this is a pretty
00:06serious one I mean oftentimes it has to do with relationships or um you know like just something
00:13a dating work advice exactly but this time um this has to do with mental health okay so this
00:20personer remains to uh or wishes to remain anonymous and uh they also don't want to give
00:27too many descriptions about their life so that anybody who knows them would recognize them okay
00:34so we're going to talk but you're going to get the whole gist all right so this person says dear
00:39Andy Summer show I'm reaching out because I'm undecided on whether or not I want to continue
00:44having relationship with my parents I am an only child and I lost my other parent a few years ago
00:52so this parent is the only one I have left the problem is I know that my parent has mental
00:59health problems depression bipolar and I can tell when they skip doses by the way they treat me
01:05because of this I've gone years biting my tongue and walking on eggshells well I'm married with
01:11children now and I worry about this behavior around my kids my oldest has even mentioned that she's
01:17afraid to visit her grandparent but can't seem to put into words what concerns her this is my only
01:23parent and I'm torn should I continue to keep a relationship with this parent and limit their
01:28contact with my kids or do I completely cut this parent out from all parts of mine and my children's
01:34lives wow yeah this is heavy it really is thanks for your help love you love your show well
01:42thank you um anonymous and I'm sorry that you're going through this I can't even imagine
01:49having to deal with this yeah it's got to be really tough because I can understand that you love your
01:54parent and you want what's best for them and you want to keep them in your life but I mean
02:00your job as
02:01a mom is to protect those kiddos right and it sounds like it sounds like she is concerned enough
02:10that it might be a dangerous situation for her kids okay yeah right so if that's the case then I
02:15say I think that you need to have a conversation with your parent and say here's what's going to
02:21happen I notice when you're off your meds and that can't happen so until you pull it together
02:30I'm protecting my kids from this I 100% agree yeah you have to have the conversation because mental
02:37health problems you know you you you can't not treat them you cannot skip doses plus when they
02:46lost their significant other yeah that could also just be that's heavy in its own so you don't want
02:52to leave that person just completely like exactly you don't want to bail because I know how that would
02:58feel with my dad yeah um but you're right you have to have the conversation because when it comes down
03:05to it you are the parent you are the protector and you have to protect your kids now say to
03:10them
03:10just like you said it's either you you straighten out yeah or you know and we can still have a
03:17relationship but you won't have a relationship with my kids yeah that's tough that is tough that's so hard
03:21that is tough maybe you found yourself in a similar situation where you had to cut ties with someone
03:26maybe it wasn't even your parent but because of it of an issue involving your kids right where you knew
03:32that you had to protect your kids these are the stories that we want to hear from you this morning
03:35what should this person do or assuming that it is a woman um who's who's just having a tough time
03:42as a
03:42mom and a daughter stuck in the middle yeah that's hard it's hard this is a heavy one
03:48you
