00:19Welcome to Unforgiven 2000, live from Philadelphia on the 24th of September 2000. Reliving the war's
00:25back. We're checking out the pay-per-view a little early and next week it's back to the usual Raw
00:29vs Nitro
00:30show. But tonight we've got some big matches that have been built up quite well on TV. Our main
00:35event's a fatal four-way seeing as Commissioner Mick Foley couldn't decide who should be number one
00:39contender. The Rock defends against The Undertaker, Kane and Chris Benoit. Triple H and Kurt Angle
00:45finally meet one-on-one. This match has been brewing for a very long time and tonight we'll
00:50also witness the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin wants to find out who ran him down at last
00:55year's Survivor Series and I can't imagine him being in a very good mood. Though Kevin Kelly's
01:00waiting for the Rattlesnake to show up. Kevin Kelly's Austin's welcoming party, that'll sure cheer him up.
01:06We kick off with the right to censor vs the Acolytes and the Dudley Boys, so let's get started.
01:15The RTC have been a bit of a pain in the collective arses of both the Dudley Boys and the
01:19Acolytes as
01:20of late so both teams decided to join forces in order to take down these conniving contrarians.
01:25Putting the right to censor early on the card is a great move as the fans are at their most
01:30fired up and ready to boo and fans are given more reason to do so as Stephen cuts a promo.
01:35He says the RTC are in his hometown of Philadelphia to fight the good fight and it's for your own
01:41good.
01:41So aye, the lads are doing this all for you specifically, you ungrateful bastard.
01:46Goodfather and Devon start things off as fans immediately chant we want tables. After a flying shoulder
01:52tackle from Devon, Bubba comes in and he lays in some shots in the corner before scoring with
01:57a back suplex. He does get put on the canvas with a backdrop though and this allows Bull Buchanan to
02:02tag in. Bubba drops him with a clothesline and in comes big old Bradshaw. Justin Hawk does get a few
02:07licks in but he too gets taken down to the mat following Bull's leaping clothesline from the top rope.
02:12Buchanan tags in the world's most disgruntled ice cream man as Val Venus goes to work. He knocks
02:18Bradshaw down after making a few obscene gestures to his opponents which kinda goes against the RTC's
02:23whole crusade and Bradshaw makes him pay with a hard Irish whip into the corner.
02:28The crowd pops big for Bradley Shaw, a tourney at law's fall away slam. Val remains on the back
02:33food as Furuk hits a back elbow and Devon connects with another flying shoulder block but a distraction
02:38from old White Sox lets Val score with a blue thunder bomb. This, in turn, allows him to make the
02:44tag to
02:44the goodest of fathers. It was all going fine until Val, the big idiot, came back in and he missed
02:50an elbow
02:50drop, allowing Devon to tag in Bubba who proceeds to wreck the RTC all by himself. But his attempted
02:56Bubba bomb to Steven gets stopped which is the cue for everyone to get in for a scrap. The fight
03:01spills
03:02to the outside, leaving Val all alone with the Dudleys who connect with a doomsday device, but the
03:07count gets broken up by the good father. He gets sent over the top rope and Val's able to duck
03:12Bubba's
03:12clothesline, sending Mr Dudley right into a stevie kick from the leader of the RTC and allowing Val
03:17to pick up the three count. The right to censor win once again on pay per view. The fight continues
03:23after the bell and Steven pays for his interference by taking the what's up headbutt. Devon then gets
03:28the table and it looks like it's curtains for Steven but he gets spared from going through the wood,
03:33only momentarily though as the RTC get cleared out once again. Steven takes a double spinebuster from
03:39the acolytes and then, finally, he gets put through the table courtesy of a Bubba Ray powerbomb off the
03:44middle rope. A fairly bog standard opener here but the fans certainly were entertained by the post-match
03:49antics, so yeah, I guess you can't really argue with that.
03:55Backstage, Stephanie McMahon's very concerned about her husband's ribs after he took that shot with his
04:00sledgehammer on Smackdown this past Thursday. You'd already know that if you watched Reliving the War
04:05on Smackdown though. Hunter tells her not to worry and this whole thing with Kurt Angle will end the
04:10night. He says he's gonna destroy Kurt, he's gonna leave him laying in the center of the ring
04:14and Hunter needs to know if his wife's cool with that. Stephanie says she's 100% behind her husband
04:20and she thought Kurt was her friend but maybe she was wrong. Hunter says Kurt was never her friend
04:25and he asks Steph to think about whether or not all of this was worth it.
04:29On the subject of whether or not this was all worth it, up next is the continuation of the
04:33feud between Jerry Lawler and Taz, this time in a strap match. The Fink announces that the ways to
04:39win are via pinfall, submission or touching all four corners, which means this one will end by
04:44pinfall or submission. The lads get strapped up and here we go, Taz takes the early advantage and
04:49he puts King down with an overhead suplex while JR mentions that Taz made his name in this very city
04:55with ECW. Now he wants to make a name for himself in the WWF. The guys take the fight to
05:00the floor and
05:01Taz chokes King with the strap before getting in JR's face. These two talk some trash to one another,
05:06which allows Lawler to turn the tables as he chokes Taz with the strap. Taz takes more shots
05:11before retreating back inside the ring, King continues to choke his opponent, but this is no
05:16match for a good old greco-roman nut shot which puts Lawler on the mat. Now it's the King who
05:21takes
05:21a few lashes from the strap before once again getting choked. It looks like King's lights are fading but
05:27he's able to rally and he gets to his feet. He lays in rights and lefts before going for the
05:31piledriver,
05:32he hits his signature move, but Taz pops right back up. They did the same spot a month ago at
05:37Summerslam and it got a way bigger reaction. So King hits another piledriver and again Taz
05:43immediately gets back to his feet. Surely a third one will keep Taz down? No? Wait, wait, yeah,
05:50there he goes. Jerry then starts touching the turnbuckles and he gets the three but Taz is able
05:56to stop him from getting the fourth. In the confusion, the referee takes a bump and just
06:01as it looks like King's about to touch the final turnbuckle, someone must have left a window open
06:05as Raven comes into the ring. The Philadelphia crowd goes nuts and yeah, it's really infectious.
06:11Raven in the WWF, my god, this run could've been amazing but right now, at this very moment,
06:17it is pretty amazing. King comes face to face with Raven, he gets instantly dropped with an evenflow
06:23DDT, Raven strikes his famous pose and then he takes his leave. Taz locks in the Taz mission and
06:30King passes out, meaning that Taz is our winner of this stropmatch. Taz keeps the hold applied after
06:35the bell and officials have to come down to help break it up, so the King has been humbled at
06:40Unforgiven 2000. Stropmatches are generally pretty dreadful in my opinion, so I'm glad this one was short.
06:46Again, while the bout itself was nothing to write home about, the fans reaction to Raven's debut
06:51more than made up for it.
06:55Oh shit boys, Sensei Blackman's warming up and that can only mean one thing,
07:00every single human within a 20 mile radius is in serious danger. Kevin Kelly's still hanging
07:05around dark, secluded parking lots like an absolute deviant, a vehicle enters and oh here we go,
07:12Stone Cold Steve Austin's arrived at Unforgiven. Kevin asks Austin how he feels, but Steve's not
07:17here to answer questions, he's here to ask them, and he's also here to shove Kevin Kelly into his
07:22shutter and throw some pipes on him, so at least he's accomplished one of his oddly specific goals
07:27for the evening. Oh goody, we have Michael Cole joining JR on commentary for the rest of the evening,
07:32how utterly crumulent. Anyway, it's time for Sensei Blackman to batter five other lads as he defends his
07:38hardcore title in a hardcore battle royal, it's not a battle royal but we'll call it a battle royal anyway.
07:44In this one we have the hardcore champion, obviously, European champion Al Snow representing Italy,
07:49Crash Holly, Test who's accompanied by Trish, Perry Saturn who's accompanied by Terry and Funaki
07:55who's accompanied by Grit, Determination and a lot of Kung Fu. Similar to the match at Wrestlemania,
08:01this one has a 10 minute time limit and the man who scores the final fall within that time limit
08:05will
08:05leave Philly as the hardcore champion. Also, they'll have a 24 hour reprieve, meaning that they'll hold
08:10the title until Raw airs tomorrow night. I mean, they had to make the 10 minute time limit make sense
08:15somehow, what's the point in having a 10 minute match if the belts defend the 24 hours a day?
08:21Sensei immediately establishes his dominance as he almost kicks Crash's head off before cracking
08:26Saturn over the head with a trashcan lid. Steve knows tests mums in the crowd so he allows the big
08:31man to hit a gut wrench powerbomb on him to make him look good. He may be a badass but
08:35he does have
08:35a soft side to him. He really likes mothers, including yours. The competitors exchange pinfall
08:41attempts, Al looks to use head but Terry takes it away. She tosses it to Saturn, Al ducks and Trish
08:47ends up getting head live on PPV. But the innuendos don't stop there as Test ends up giving Terry head
08:53and we all have a chuckle at the silliness of it all. It's funny guys, it really is. Fuckin laugh.
08:59Crash looks for a diving hurricanrana but it goes a bit wayward to say the least but Funaki's top rope
09:04crossbody looks spot on. Everyone ends up on the outside and Saturn knocks them all down with a
09:09moonsault from the top to the floor. Perry and Funaki head up the ramp while Crash and Al pair
09:13off in the ring. Test catches the champion in an unusual state of unreadiness as he boots a trashcan
09:19in the blackman's face. Crash picks up the scraps and we have our first fall. Crash is the current
09:24hardcore champion. Elroy tries to make like a tree and get out of here but he's met at the top
09:28of the
09:29ramp with a trashcan shot to the dome from Perry Saturn and Perry pins Crash to become the new
09:33champion with just under six minutes to go. The lads bop each other with weapons at the top of the
09:38ramp for a while before brawling beside the crowd at the side of the stage. We eventually make it down
09:43to the ringside area as Al wax test with a pizza box while Steve goes to work on Saturn with
09:48his
09:48scream of sticks. Everyone tries to take down Blackman but of course they're no match for his super high
09:54levels of kendo stickery. He smacked Perry over the head with said kendo stick and with just under a minute
09:59to go, Blackman scores a pinfall. The lads know their only chance is to team up, so Steve takes a
10:05beating
10:05from every other competitor. You know Steve though, this is absolutely nothing seeing as he's single
10:11handedly taken on armies of earth invading robo bastards, so Blackman survives the final few seconds
10:17and he walks out the same way he walked in. Still the hardcore champion, as if it was ever in
10:22doubt.
10:28Kurt Angle's showing off his gold medals backstage, of course he is. He bumps into Stone Cold Steve
10:34Austin though and he introduces himself as Kurt Angle, Olympic gold medalist. He's sure Austin's heard
10:40of him before but Stone Cold isn't saying a word. Seeing as Austin can't win a gold medal of his
10:44own,
10:44Kurt gives Stone Cold his very own mini medal. The rattlesnake says he's gonna treasure this and he's
10:50gonna put it in a very special place, right up Kurt Angle's ass. You know, I like Steve Austin,
10:56I like him a lot, but man, he's so ungrateful. Poor Angle's so upset that he goes straight to
11:01Mick Foley and he tells the commissioner that Stone Cold just tried to kick his ass. Mick wonders if
11:05Austin was successful, Angle says no, and Mick laughs while saying, that's not what I heard. Kurt says,
11:12never worry, he's still gonna compete tonight. This is nothing seeing as he had a head cold the
11:17night before the Olympic games and on the day of, he had IBS. Mick Foley says, you do BS.
11:24Mick's gonna officiate Angle's match against Triple H a bit later on. In seeing as Angle attacked Hunter
11:29with that sledgehammer on Smackdown, Foley's making Angle vs Triple H a no DQ match. Good stuff.
11:35X-Pac took on Chris Jericho next. This rivalry's been pretty surface level with your standard attacks from
11:41behind and what have you, and this match was pretty surface level too, which is a shame given the
11:46talent in the ring. Pac put Jericho down early on before looking for a Bronco Buster, he wasted too
11:52much time though and Y2J had it scouted. Chris then went for his springboard dropkick but X-Pac was
11:57waiting for it, and Wattman follows up with a somersault plancha before the two brawled on the
12:01outside. Back in the ring, Wattman performs a spinning wheel kick, he then brings it down for a chinlock,
12:06and being the chinlock connoisseur that I am, I've noticed the chinlocks seem to be exclusive to
12:11pay-per-view nowadays. You gotta pay extra to see this fine art live on TV, so they've paywalled
12:18chinlocks ladies and gents. We've got the competitors trading sleeper holes next and it
12:22seemed like all hope was lost when Jericho took the Bronco Buster. Anything Pac can do,
12:26Jericho can do better, or so Chris thinks, and this means Chris tries a Bronco Buster of his own.
12:32It's crazy to think that someone can make the act of jumping up and down on someone's chest look
12:36better than someone else, but yeah Jericho's Bronco Buster looks terrible.
12:41Pac tries to use Steve Blackman's nunchucks, he fails, he does hit a low blow and an axe factor,
12:46but still Jericho kicks out. X-Pac survives the walls of Jericho and he gets the knees up when Chris
12:51goes for the lion's salt, but he gets put in the walls one more time and he has no choice
12:56but to give
12:56it up. Jericho initially refuses to let go of the hold but he does so when more officials show up.
13:02And it all ends with Pac attacking Jericho from behind with those deadly nunchucks.
13:07The beating continues on the outside as JR wonders why X-Pac's turned so vile over the past few weeks
13:12and Michael Cole says it's because X-Pac's a lousy loser. Great insight Michael.
13:22Steve Austin comes face to face with The Rock, my god. The two shake hands, Rock says welcome back,
13:28and Austin says it's good to be back but he needs answers. He needs to know who was in Rock's
13:33locker
13:33room the night of Survivor Series 99 and who could have stole The Rock's car keys. Rock says it could
13:38have been anyone, he has no solid answers. It could have been just Joe, who just so happened to walk
13:44in the door as Rock and Austin were having their conversation. Joe says he overheard something that
13:49Austin might be interested in. Austin said he heard Joe's a sorry son of a bitch. Young Joseph gets
13:54attacked by Stone Cold and Austin shoots Rock a look before Unforgiven continues on. Edge and Christian
14:00defend their tag team belts against the Hardys next and just like you, I'm here for the high spots.
14:05I think the WWF just like booking these guys in gimmick matches and seeing what crazy stuff they do.
14:10Great reaction for Matt and Jeff tonight in Philadelphia. We get standard brawling at the
14:14opening bell with the Hardy boys eventually taking control thanks to their double team moves.
14:18Edge and Christian are great but their tandem offence doesn't compare to that of the Hardy boys.
14:23Christian gets his back rammed into the cage and the Hardys follow up with some poetry in motion.
14:28The Hardys then look to get out of the cage and while Jeff's able to take care of Christian,
14:32Matt isn't so lucky against Edge. Jeff ends up all alone at the top of the cage,
14:36he decides he wants to perform a swanton bomb and keep himself in the match,
14:40but Edge pushes him down and that means Jeff is out of the match. If Matt can escape, get a
14:46pinfall or
14:46submission, the Hardys will win but the odds are now seriously against them. Matt gives it his best,
14:52he's able to deliver a twist of fate and he's even able to tie Edge up so he can try
14:56to make an escape,
14:57but the champs regroup and Edge and Christian perform a huge superplex. From here Edge and
15:02Christian get pretty violent as they focus on punishing Matt as much as possible,
15:06Jeff's desperate to get in but he's unable to do so, so he ends up attacking the outside official in
15:11order to get the key. He's able to open the door but Christian takes care of Jeff rather easily.
15:16Christian then goes out to grab some chairs and Michael Cole says Christian hasn't escaped,
15:20you must go over the top of the cage apparently so it's still two on one. Matt's been busted open
15:26now as Edge and Christian continue their beatdown and it's now time for a concerto. This was supposed
15:31to be the kill shot that would put Matt away for good but Matt ducks out of the way and
15:35the match
15:36continues on. Matt tries again to escape the cage, Christian climbs over too in an effort to stop him,
15:41Jeff grabs the ladder and he throws at Christian and this leads the one half of the tag team champions
15:46hitting the floor. It's now a level playing field but Jeff wants to get some payback,
15:51he wants Edge to take a little two on one punishment. So, Jeff manages to climb the cage after fighting
15:57Edge off, he stands atop the cage as the crowd goes mental, fans can sense something big's gonna happen
16:03and the mad bastard only goes and delivers a whisper in the wind. Edge has no help seeing as
16:08Lita just came down to hit Christian with a hurricanrana off the ladder and the hardys get revenge for
16:13all the embarrassment ANC's caused him over the past few weeks with a concerto to Edge. Edge falls into
16:18the ring, the hardys are able to escape and that means we've got new tag team champions at Unforgiven.
16:24Was it the best match that involved these four men? No. Was it still fun? Yeah, I'd say it was.
16:30You expect a total spotfest and that's not exactly what we got but the spots we did get were good,
16:35so no problems here, good match.
16:42Steve Austin's looking for Triple H but he finds Stephanie instead. Steph says she's happy Stone
16:47Cold's here tonight, she reminds Austin that neither she, Hunter Shane or Vince could've ran him down
16:52seeing as they were right beside Stone Cold after the incident but Steph has a special surprise for
16:57Austin, it's the Kep Austin war at Survivor Series 99. Stephanie held onto this while hoping Stone Cold
17:03would one day return and she now has the opportunity to give it back. Stephanie reminds Austin that Shane
17:14apparently knows who ran him down and Stone Cold says there's three things you can be certain of,
17:20death, taxes and you don't trust anyone in the WWF, wiser words have never been spoken.
17:27Hunter's having a word with Commissioner Foley, these two have been getting along well recently and
17:31they've been making fun of Kurt Angle but Triple H wants to know if Mick's gonna call the match right
17:35down the middle tonight. Mick says he did consider getting involved but now that it's no DQ he has
17:41no need to, Mick's only there to count the pinfall or check for a submission and maybe when tonight's
17:47over he and Hunter can laugh again. It's now time for Eddie Guerrero to finally face Rikishi,
17:52the IC champion's been having some issues with China and he's drove a wedge between his mamacita and
17:58big Samoan friend but Eddie seemingly got away with weeks of manipulation by asking Chyna to marry him.
18:04Eddie's also a little upset that Chyna posed for Playboy magazine, we can see he still isn't
18:09comfortable with Chyna showing herself off to these dirty wrestling fans but it's Eddie who could end
18:15up getting a bit dirty tonight when Rikishi shoves his rusty ring into Latino Heat's face. It's the
18:20Stingface vs the Frog Splash, the IC belt's up for grabs and it looks like Eddie has no hope at
18:25all as our
18:26match gets underway. After dishing out a beating inside the ropes, Rikishi throws Eddie to the
18:30outside, Eddie gets thrown into the ring steps before the two head back in, Eddie makes the
18:35mistake of going for a sunset flip but he does manage to get out of the way and he decides
18:39afterwards that he doesn't really want to compete. He gets out of the ring, he tells Chyna it's time to
18:45go but Chyna tells her man he has to fight. When Eddie refuses again, Chyna shoves him, she wants Eddie
18:51to compete and not run away, so Eddie gets tossed into the ring where the beatdown continues. He
18:56takes a corner clothesline, the end is near as Rikishi backs his rear. Chyna, for some reason,
19:02pulls Eddie to safety and she's probably doing this for her own good. I mean, no one wants to
19:07kiss a shitty moustache. Rikishi gets distracted, Eddie takes advantage with a top rope dive. Back in
19:13the ring, Latino Heat looks for the frog splash but Rikishi avoids it. The match continues with Eddie
19:18taking a corner hip attack followed with a cutter and a Samoan drop. The crowd strangely silent
19:23here and we can only put it down to the previous cage match, but this is where this match ends
19:28anyway. Rikishi performs the banzai drop and Eddie's done for, but Chyna gets in the ring
19:33and she stops the count. This naturally pisses the big goose off. Rikishi goes to the outside,
19:40he puts Chyna into the ring and after shoving Chyna and hitting her with a sidekick, the referee calls for
19:45the bell. Yeah, it doesn't make sense, but Rikishi's been disqualified and he's so angry that he delivers
19:51a banzai drop to the 9th wonder of the world. Terrible finish, but Chyna's once again took a bullet
19:56for Eddie Guerrero and unfortunately, the crowd didn't react the way the WWF thought they would.
20:01Before checking on Chyna, Eddie grabs his intercontinental belt. We all know what's more
20:06important to latino heat, but Chyna's totally oblivious.
20:13The Undertaker says he's set up his opponents to be humbled. Tonight, Cain, Benoit, even The Rock,
20:19these men are all gonna go on a ride and they better hope it's not their last ride. The WWF
20:24ring is the Undertaker's yard, the Undertaker's the big dog of that yard, so the dead man's feeling
20:29pretty confident about his chances tonight. Someone who isn't so confident is Kurt Angle,
20:34he's in an ODQ match, Stephanie maybe doesn't like him anymore, even Steve Austin kicked his ass,
20:40sorry, tried to kick his ass. It's all going downhill for Mr. Integrity.
20:45Trish Stratus appears, and she says if Angle ever needs someone to talk to,
20:49then she'll be his friend, but Angle gets a bright idea and he ends up leaving Trish standing there
20:56looking silly. He may be an Olympic hero, but he can be quite aloof sometimes. Kurt Angle vs Triple H
21:02is
21:02our next match and these two have been featured in the best WWF storyline the company's presenting
21:07at this current time. Kurt's been getting way too friendly with Stephanie McMahon, Hunter hasn't
21:12been a great husband either, seeing as he's accidentally hit Little Miss McMahon on more than one occasion,
21:17the rivalry swung recently to add a bit of humour which is an area that Kurt Angle really excels in,
21:23but the fun and games are over as Hunter looks to end this rivalry once and for all. There's been
21:27loads of
21:28discussions about why this storyline ended abruptly and it's a shame too because it really has been a
21:33great rivalry, but let's see if their one on one pay per view showdown was equally as great.
21:38Referee Mick Foley makes his entrance, Mick's officiating this one because he wants a decisive
21:42finish and he wants an end of the love triangle that's spiralled out of control on his TV show,
21:47and Kurt reveals that today is actually Stephanie McMahon's birthday. He wants the fans to sing happy
21:52birthday and this must be the idea he mentioned when ignoring Trish. The crowd boo and they don't
21:57sing along, of course. The game comes out with taped up ribs, that sledgehammer attack on Smackdown's
22:03messed Hunter up and the attacks also made Stephanie see Kurt in a very different light. Angle makes sure
22:08to go for those ribs right at the get go and Hunter knows how this one's gonna play out. He's
22:13gonna need
22:13to be a bit more defensive but they say the best defense is a good offense, so Triple H goes
22:18on the
22:18attack and Stephanie looks very happy when Angle gets floored. We go outside where Angle takes a
22:23ring step bump, Triple H then goes over to JR and the King and we know what Hunter plans on
22:28doing here,
22:29he wants to give Angle another concussion on top of the announce desk just like Summerslam.
22:34Luckily for Kurt he's able to avoid any serious damage and it's right back to those injured ribs.
22:38Angle stays in control momentarily, it's almost like he can't build momentum after attacking the
22:43injured body part, a spear puts Kurt down and Hunter lays in a few shots, but then Hunter goes
22:48to the middle rope and Angle catches him for a german suplex. Same stuff here really, Angle goes for
22:54the ribs, Hunter sails for a bit, the game then makes a comeback, this time with a DDT, and Angle
22:59comes back after a suplex when Triple H and Foley have an argument over a count. Angle also gets angry
23:05at Foley because he thought Mick slow counted him, so Mick gets shoved and the commissioner shoves right
23:11back. The crowd chants Foley's name as Angle stops a Triple H comeback with a back suplex, and you know,
23:17I think Hunter having these injured ribs is actually a detriment to this match. I mean,
23:21this has been built up for so long and it would have benefited from being an all out war with
23:26both
23:26men at their absolute best. Instead, the match is being built around the injury and I don't think
23:31it's paying off. It's even worse because Hunter's shaking off all of Angle's offence and coming back
23:36like there's nothing wrong. He performs a neckbreaker followed by the Harley race knee, we then see the
23:41knee drop but Angle kicks out of Hunter's follow up cover. Hunter then gets thrown out of the ring and
23:46again,
23:46it's all back and forth here with no one gaining control, though things finally heat up a little
23:51when Angle takes a chair shot across the back. It's now time for the pedigree on the table,
23:56it doesn't matter if the WWF reinforce the announce desks because Angle avoids it by delivering a low
24:01blow. Kurt then puts Hunter through the Spanish announce table with a belly to belly suplex and Mick
24:06rushes over to check on Hunter. The game's still in it though he's now bleeding from the mouth,
24:11those old serious internal injuries eh? And we continue on with Angle getting laser focused when
24:16attacking Hunter's midsection and finally Triple H is selling it. He's staying down for extended
24:21periods of time and even Stephanie has to check on him when he gets thrown out of the ring.
24:25We resume with more shots from Angle inside the ring and Hunter moves out of the corner when Angle
24:30comes rushing in. Kurt manages to shake it off and he sets Hunter up for a top rope belly to
24:35belly,
24:35and from here Angle's gonna lock in an abdominal stretch in hopes of Triple H giving up. The game,
24:40however, does not submit. Kurt decides to put it all on the line, he goes up for a moonsault,
24:46as expected Angle doesn't land the move and this allows the game to build a comeback. Hunter's trying
24:50to do this with only one arm, I think he's holding onto his ribs and therefore he's lost the use
24:56of
24:56his arm, so when it's time for the pedigree, he can't get all of it. Our match ends with Triple
25:01H
25:01telling Stephanie to get in the ring, he tells his wife it's now time to make her choice, she can
25:06go
25:06with Angle or she can stay with Hunter. Stephanie gingerly goes behind Kurt after getting put on the
25:12spot, she delivers a low blow and just like that Hunter magically heals up and he delivers a pedigree
25:18for the 1-2-3. Stephanie looks a bit perplexed right now and so do I if I'm honest. I
25:24know the
25:24narrative around Triple H matches during the Attitude Era and no doubt this match should have been better,
25:29but after watching the entire build up on reliving the war with you guys, you know as much as I
25:34do
25:34that this match, the finish of the match, everything about it was a total letdown. Triple H gives his
25:40wife a kiss, yet Stephanie still looks a bit, I don't know, shocked or maybe annoyed at Triple H,
25:46but that's how it ends and I'm not happy. I've been admittedly gushing over the Angle vs Triple H
25:52storyline lately every Thursday night and I've said multiple times that this storyline was a main reason
25:58to watch Raw every week, but this payoff simply wasn't good, I think the wrong guy won. I also think
26:04they
26:04focus way too much on an unnecessary last minute injury when they had so many other options available,
26:10Foley being the referee was also pointless, yeah there was just not enough thought put into this at all.
26:20Shane McMahon said on Smackdown that he has some important information, he knows who ran Stone Cold
26:25down at Survivor Series, so he's here at Unforgiven to let everyone know. Austin didn't seek Shane out
26:31when he arrived at the arena, Shane's upset that he has to publicly call out the culprit,
26:35and so Shane blames… Steve Blackman. And Shane shows his evidence on the titantron,
26:40it's a video of Blackman driving his car into Ken Shamrock last year, it's absolutely preposterous.
26:46Shane's obviously trying to set Steve up, so Blackman comes out to kick Shane's ass. Shane runs away,
26:51he waits for Stone Cold to show up, and there's a huge pop in the arena as Austin walks to
26:56the ring
26:56with brand new theme music, the glass shatters version of his entrance theme by Disturbed.
27:01The reaction's fantastic here, Stone Cold's looking good as he gets in the ring, and Austin squares
27:06up to Blackman which, as you fully well know, is a bad move. Shane gets in the ring, Austin stops
27:13Blackman from going after Shane O'Mac, Blackman says if it makes you feel any better you can give me a
27:18stunner because I need to save the earth right now, there's a mars invasion going on, so Steve does
27:23indeed hit Blackman with a stunner. The music plays again, Shane grabs a few beers, Austin celebrates
27:29with Shane as the commentators try to make sense of Blackman trying to take Austin out last year,
27:34but as it turns out, Austin didn't actually believe Shane. Shane also takes a stunner and that means
27:40we still don't know who the culprit was back at Survivor Series. Shane takes two more stunners in between
27:45Austin celebrating his big return, but this is also kinda shit because Stone Cold promised on Raw that
27:50he would find the culprit, he said he was gonna interrogate everyone and get answers, but I guess
27:56we're dragging this one out for some Monday Night War TV ratings. Still, it is good to have Stone Cold
28:01back, seeing the Austin pop even after all these years still gives you goosebumps.
28:10The story of our main event is simple. Kane, Chris Benoit and The Undertaker all felt they should be
28:15number one contender. Mick Foley couldn't pick just one guy so The Rock's defending his WWF title in a
28:21fatal four way. Rock and Taker teamed up a few times on Raw and Smackdown, we thought these two were
28:26cool
28:26with each other but it went downhill when Taker put Rock through a table when these two lost a match
28:31against the Dudley boys. Undertaker blamed Rock for the loss. Again, all very surface level stuff here.
28:37Rock says he's gonna shove his opponent's head so far up their asses that they'll have to cut holes
28:42in their nipples just so they can see. The champ, just like The Undertaker earlier on, is feeling
28:47confident tonight. The competitors make their entrances and we've got a lot of officials just to
28:51make sure there's no physicality before the bell rings. We get underway, Rock focuses on Kane while
28:57Taker focuses on Benoit and when The Rock tells Undertaker to just bring it, the heels wake up
29:02and we get no physicality between the babyfaces. Rock and Benoit head into the audience while Taker
29:07and Kane fight inside the ropes. Taker gets floored with a clothesline and Kane follows up with his
29:12diving clothesline. Rock's now choking Benoit out and he's just about to bring him to the commentary
29:17table as Undertaker delivers a jumping clothesline and the competitors then switch it up with Taker
29:22and Benoit going to work while Rock focuses on Kane. The big red machine takes a Samoan drop,
29:26he answers right away with a power slam and with the exception of a rocky chant at the beginning of
29:31the match, the crowd are a little quiet here. The Austin returns probably tired them out a bit.
29:36Benoit gets dropped on the guardrail, allowing Undertaker to come in and help Rock focus on Kane.
29:41These two join forces for a double back elbow and a double clothesline and finally Rock and
29:46Undertaker get to do some work together which does get the crowd a little excited. Just a little though.
29:52Undertaker hammers Rock, he's making it look easy with a sidewalk slam though when he goes for old
29:56school Rock throws him off the top rope before sending him out of the ring. Kane's back in now,
30:01he signals for the chokeslam, Rock avoids it and this leads to a referee bump and naturally Rock tries
30:06to pin Kane after delivering a DDT. Don't know why wrestlers keep doing this. Taker brings a chair into
30:12the ring, he hits the WWF champion. Chris Benoit thought this was a wonderful idea so he grabs the chair
30:17too
30:18and the Undertaker gets smacked in the head. Benoit covers Undertaker, the referee counts to three
30:22even though Undertaker has a foot on the bottom rope but the announcement gets made that Benoit's
30:26the new champion and Chris' music plays as he grabs the WWF title. Benoit heads back up the ramp but
30:32our match isn't over yet. Commissioner Foley shows up once again to take the WWF belt away from Chris,
30:37so it's like fully loaded all over again. Referees decisions are not final in the WWF guys.
30:43Mick restarts the match, Taker, Rock and Kane are ready to beat seven shades of shit out of the
30:48Crippler and so the guys take turns beating Chris up at the entranceway before Kane goes after Rock.
30:53Why Rock's trying a face rake on Kane I've no idea but we've got Taker and Benoit in the ring
30:58and Chris
30:59is getting violent. Taker ends up on the outside, the Rock bounces the ring steps off his head,
31:04Rock gets in the ring to try his luck against Benoit and after taking an overhead throw, Chris fires back
31:09with three consecutive German suplexes. Following this, Rock takes the diving headbutt, Benoit
31:14thinks he has it one, Rock kicks out of two though and it's kinda funny the Taker nor Kane tried
31:19to
31:19break the pin up, like they knew Rock was going to kick out of Benoit's finisher. Rock applies the
31:24Crippler crossface, the undertaker breaks it up and he sends Rock out of the ring, Kane then chokeslams
31:29his brother but Benoit breaks up the big red machines cover and things get messy as all four men try
31:35to
31:35get the upper hand. Benoit intercepts a people's elbow attempt which doesn't please the fans a
31:40single bit, Rock takes Benoit out and this allows Undertaker to hit the WWF champion with a last ride.
31:46Undertaker forgot about his little brother though and after breaking up the cover, Kane ends up fighting
31:50the dead man on the outside. Benoit hits both guys with chair shots, he gets in the ring to put
31:56Rock
31:56in the crossface but Rock's been in this hole so many times by now and not once is he topped
32:01out,
32:01it's an effective finisher, it's just not effective against the Rock. Undertaker gets in the ring to
32:07break it up, he then delivers a chokeslam to Benoit, Benoit gets covered, Kane pulls his brother out
32:12of the ring so these two can continue their fight and while these two brawl on the outside, the Rock
32:17magically recovers and he delivers a rock bottom to Chris Benoit. Taker again tries to break the cover,
32:23Kane stops him from doing so because he's a big idiot and Rock retains his WWF title. I thought this
32:29match was a bit of a letdown too if I'm honest. I know Kane's more interested in fighting his brother
32:34than winning the WWF title but this little tidbit only came into play during the actual match,
32:39Kane wouldn't shut up about wanting to become WWF champion for weeks so yeah, it's not great.
32:45Rock's beaten Benoit so many times now that Chris doesn't look like Rock's equal at all and that
32:49leaves us with the Undertaker who, in my opinion, really should have had a one on one match against
32:54Rock at this pay-per-view. They got a good reaction during their match on Raw earlier in the week
32:59but
32:59sure, it doesn't matter now does it? That's our show over, another WWF pay-per-view in the books.
33:10Unforgiven was okay but not a good show when considering the WWF's other shows of this year.
33:16As a matter of fact, I rank it quite low just because it should have been so much more. Nothing
33:20wrong with the in-ring action but the booking was the main issue here. Triple H vs Angle should
33:25have been an absolute war, Austin should have been tearing the arena down looking for the person who
33:29wronged him last year, in the championship match just didn't feel all that competitive along with
33:34having a bad finish. Other matches should have been better too, for example, X-Pac vs Jericho,
33:40Lawler vs Taz is only worth watching to see Raven, so I'm finding myself picking out more things I didn't
33:46like about this show in comparison to things I did like, which means I'm feeling a wee bit negative
33:51coming out of this one. The biggest mistake was Angle vs Triple H though, without a doubt. I'm
33:57actually kinda shocked how they managed to mess that one up, seeing as they worked so hard in creating
34:02a fantastic build up. But yeah, you can't win them all, I guess. Not a total dogshit show by any
34:08means,
34:08but very uneventful. If you've been watching Raw up until this point then it'll annoy you a little more
34:14for sure. But now you know what happened and now we'll get back to standard reliving the war episodes
34:19from next week on. Join me then soldiers and we'll see what's next for the boys and girls of the
34:24WWF.
34:25Thank you very much for watching Unforgiven with me, and please take care.
