00:00Arc Raiders has come under some heavy scrutiny after freely admitting to using AI text-to-speech
00:05in its dialogue, but apparently it's all cool, because owner Nexon says it's important
00:09to assume that every game company is using AI.
00:12That's coming from CEO Jung Hoon Lee speaking to GameSpark, but it's backed by the co-founder
00:16of Arc Raiders developer Embark too.
00:18Stefan Strandberg told us himself that Arc Raiders text-to-speech is a studio strategy.
00:23That said, both suggest that using AI tools is ineffective without human ingenuity.
00:27For his part, Strandberg says, there's something fantastical that happens when you bring real
00:31actors in, and they are contributing to the lore as well of this game world.
00:35Like Embark's last three-to-place due to the finals, Arc Raiders blends text-to-speech with
00:40human voice actor recordings.
00:41There's no end goal in replacing any actors, Strandberg says.
00:44All this controversy, however, has not stopped Arc Raiders from apparently reaching a peak
00:48of 700,000 concurrent players across all platforms.
