00:00John Buckley, the communications head of Palworld developer PocketBear, says the studio doesn't touch AI because players hate it and
00:06artists like doing stuff themselves.
00:09Buckley has previously shut down claims that PocketBear uses generative AI for some of the creatures or assets in Palworld,
00:14affirming that gamers don't want it, and if the gamers don't want it, I guess that's it, right?
00:18As for why the studio steers clear of the technology, he states,
00:22We have a lot of artists in-house. They like doing stuff themselves. There's no reason to get rid of
00:26them for the sake of an AI doing it. Just seems pointless.
00:29Buckley also says he's frustrated by the greying number of AI-generated assets and listing images appearing in Steam NexFest

00:36Reflecting on what he's seen recently, he says,
00:45Buckley has also argued that the rise of generative AI and related tools could eventually create an authenticity market,
00:51where developers feel the need to advertise their work was made without AI, leading with assurances like,
00:56This game's 100% human-made. On that possibility, he concludes,
01:00I think it's a bit dystopian that it might end up like that. We'll have to put a Steam disclaimer.
01:04This game is made by humans. That's kind of sad to think about.
01:07Do you agree with John Buckley's thoughts on the use of generative AI in game development?
