00:10An increase in Ebola infections has been contaminated in the Democratic Republic of
00:14Congo with a total of 689 cumulative cases nationwide. Russia shot down more than 170
00:25Ukrainian drones in a single night according to the Ministry of Defence. Hundreds of people
00:34protested in Paris against the European Union's migration and asylum pact which came into effect
00:40in the 27 member states. Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Pablo Michaliche
00:52from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:10An increase in Ebola infections has been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo with a total
01:15of 689 cumulative cases nationwide. The country's Ministry of Health reported 139 deaths in
01:22its most recent update. The report reveals that the new outbreaks are concentrated in the eastern
01:28province of Ituri where the virus is spreading rapidly. In the face of the emergency medical
01:34staff report that treatment centres are overwhelmed and that there is a funding shortfall of $21.5
01:41million which is preventing the spread across borders from being contained.
01:52In Nigeria, violent clashes broke out between police and civilian protesters demanding urgent
01:58improvements to security conditions in the African country. Using tear gas and force, police disposed
02:04that hundreds of citizens marched in the capital to demand policies against organised crime. The civil
02:10protests coincided with official celebrations for Democracy Day, a date that citizens used to raise
02:17banners and chant slogans in protest against the breach of internal security. In the face of the force of
02:23popular demands, the Presidential Palace was put on the security lockdown in an attempt to contain the
02:30social outrage unleashed by the relentless wave of mass kidnappings and armed robberies plaguing the nation.
02:59Pakistan announced that a final agreed upon tax of a peace agreement between Iran and the United States has been
03:05reached.
03:06On Friday, the Pakistani mediators said that this would enable Tehran and Washington to determine the next
03:12steps toward a peace agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East. Amid ongoing intense
03:18mediation efforts, Pakistan stated that it is fully aware of the relentless disinformation campaign being
03:25carried out by those seeking to sabotage the peace deal. Let's recall that Pakistan has played a pivotal role in
03:32the conflict in the region on February 28th, facilitating a ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington
03:38in early April.
03:46In this scenario, Iran's Foreign Minister Spokesperson Esmail Bagai said the country is in the final stages of
03:53internally summarizing the text of a Memorandum of Understanding, with relevant institutions currently
03:59holding meetings on the matter. He added that it is not yet possible to confirm the timing or location of
04:05a sign-in,
04:06not to comment on speculation about the contents. Additionally, during the negotiation process,
04:12Bagai emphasized that efforts to prevent false expectations and rumors in the media,
04:18of which appraised Pakistan's mediation on issues that constitute reliance for Iran.
04:30Also in this context, Iranian Foreign Minister Bagai outlined some of the terms of the proposed
04:36Memorandum of Understanding, including a ceasefire in Lebanon. During a televised interview,
04:41Iraqis stated that the negotiations would be carried out in two phases, initially guaranteeing a cease to
04:48hostilities on the fronts of the conflict. In the sense, he added that the US nuclear demands would not be
04:54considered during the first phase. In regard to the Strait of Hormuz, the diplomat emphasized that the
05:01administration of the waterway will never be the same as before the conflict. Overall, the Memorandum of
05:07Understanding seeks to achieve a lasting peace in the region, with guarantees from the aggressors on the basis of
05:14sovereign equality of nations. As soon as the final stage of our negotiations are completed,
05:29this agreement will be signed and unannounced. The signing will initially take place digitally.
05:41Each side will sign remotely. After that, it will be announced that this Memorandum of Understanding
05:53has been signed by both parties. This could happen in the coming days. I'm very hopeful.
06:06The Islamic Republic of Iran has made a firm decision that the administration of the Strait of Hormuz
06:11will no longer be the same as before. Meanwhile, Israel continues attacking Lebanon despite ongoing
06:21negotiation efforts, killing at least one person and issuing forced evacuation orders for 20,000 villages.
06:27According to Lebanon's national news agencies, Sionis air raids have been reported across southern Lebanon,
06:34including Nabatir, Tirith and Jezinin. In this sense, the Israeli military killed one person in Tirith in
06:42intensified operations against the city. This is reported at the same time as Israel issues new false
06:48evacuation orders for 20,000 villages of southern Lebanon, once again ordering residents to suddenly
06:54leave their homes. This comes as negotiation efforts are stepping up to put an end to the conflict in
07:01the region while Iran continues to advocate for a stop of Sionis attacks against Lebanon.
07:14Russia shot down more than 170 Ukrainian drones in a single night, according to the Ministry of
07:19Defense. The unmanaged aerial vehicles were shot down over 12 provinces, including Moscow and the
07:26Republic of Crimea. There were exactly 177 fixed-wing drones in the month of June alone, according to the
07:35Russian Ministry of Defense, which intercepted and destroyed more than 1,400 drones launched from Ukraine.
07:49And now we have a short break coming up. We will be right back. Stay with us.
08:03Welcome back. Hundreds of people protested in Paris against the European Union's migration and asylum
08:08pact, which came into effect in the 27 member states. The European Union launched its new migration pact on
08:15June 12, after years of negotiations. The package tightens control of external borders, space-up asylum
08:22procedures, and facilitates the deportation of those who do not obtain protection. In response, various NGOs and
08:29human rights advocates are denouncing the measure, expressing concern that the legislation could lead
08:35to an increase in the detention of asylum seekers.
08:45In Germany, thousands of steel workers are demanding government support in the face of high energy
08:51costs and foreign competition. Under the slogan, steel has a feud with us, employees in the sector marched
08:57to the Federal Ministry of Economy. About 1,700 workers from more than 40 production facilities took part in
09:04the protest. In this sense, workers are demanding greater political support for the steel industry in crisis,
09:11which is being affected by economic stagnation, high tariffs imposed by the United States, and price competition,
09:17especially from Asia.
09:26In Albania, thousands of people are protesting in the streets of Tirana against Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner
09:33mega-tourism project. A community opposes the construction of this hotel complex because it
09:38encroaches on a protected nature reserve. The social movement, known as the Flamingo revolution, has threatened
09:46the mega-construction project in the Beshza-Narta Nature Reserve, a coastal ecosystem that is home to hundreds of species.
09:54Protesters warned that the tourist complex poses a critical threat to local biodiversity and the area's habitats.
10:00In addition to environmental concerns, the civil protest reflects deep dissatisfaction with Albania's political and economic
10:08situation, which has led citizens to demand an immediate halt to construction. For the part,
10:14various community authorities have pointed out that this real estate development could seriously
10:19compromise the country's international environmental agreements.
10:31moving now to the United States. A shooting in the city of Midland, Texas, left two people dead and at
10:37least 10 injured.
10:38According to authorities, the incident resulted in the death of a civilian and the attacker himself,
10:44identified as a fortifier of Victor Mata Villarreal, who was wanted for the attempted murder of a police officer.
10:51Meanwhile, the injured were transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where four of them underwent surgery,
10:58and five others have already been discharged. The scene of the incident remains secured,
11:03and citizens have been urged to avoid the area so as not to stop the ongoing investigations.
11:17The U.S. Director of National Intelligence reported over 100 biolaboratories funded by the United States
11:24around the world with insufficient oversight. DNAI Tulsi Gabbard reported that many of the laboratories have
11:33conducted research involving dangerous, highly contagious pathogens. Additionally, it announced the release of
11:40documents detailing funding provided by Washington to over 120 biological laboratories spanning approximately
11:4730 countries, including Ukraine. In this sense, a U.S. funded lab in Ukraine likely houses dangerous pathogens
11:55and remains vulnerable amid the conflict with Russia.
12:07After far-right presidential candidate, Flavio Bolsonaro flew up to Washington to meet Donald Trump,
12:12the U.S. President announced new punitive measures against Brazil. Our correspondent Brian Muir has more.
12:19After being exposed for receiving a secret $20 million payoff from a jailed, corrupt former bank president,
12:26far-right presidential hopeful Flavio Bolsonaro flew up to Washington to meet with the U.S. President.
12:32Days later, Trump announced a series of punitive measures against Brazil and said he no longer considers
12:38the Brazilian government to be a friend of the United States.
12:43We want to know what exactly Flavio Bolsonaro spoke about with Donald Trump. What was the topic of their meeting?
12:50We know he was trying to change the subject because he'd just been exposed, asking for $100 million from a
12:56corrupt banker.
12:57What raises questions is that Eduardo Bolsonaro was already up there lobbying against Brazil.
13:04Flavio joined him, and now we see the consequences. I believe they are both traitors.
13:11President Trump has promised to impose a 25% import tariff on Brazilian goods. If he keeps his word,
13:19this will be the second time that he's done it. When he levied 50% tariffs last year,
13:23it damaged the U.S. economy more than Brazil's. More than this, though, many voters are wondering
13:28how a senator can even be allowed to travel to a foreign country to lobby against Brazil's national interests.
13:41Every passing day reveals more of the tentacles of an organized crime group that is run by criminals
13:46who believe that coordinating attacks against the Brazilian people from the United States
13:50will help them take control of the presidency.
13:57Since Brazil is China's most important trading partner in Latin America, doing over three times
14:02as much trade with it as it does with the United States, Trump's new threats against the Lula
14:07administration can also be interpreted as veiled threats against China.
14:14The U.S. is showing that wants to reorganize Latin America into a group of countries run by
14:20right or far-right governments that will facilitate North American interests within their territories,
14:26especially regarding access to certain rare earth minerals. But mainly, the Trump administration
14:31wants to drive all Chinese influence out of Latin America.
14:37A recent poll by Atlas suggests that Flavio Bolsonaro's corruption scandal and the Trump administration's
14:42threats against Brazil have triggered a boost in popularity for incumbent Lula da Silva,
14:47who is now leading the race by 10 points. Brian Mir, Telesur, Recife.
14:55The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela issued a statement regarding a joint
15:00Venezuelan-U.S. anti-terrorist operation. In this sense, the Venezuelan government said that
15:05as part of a joint operation between Venezuelan and U.S. security agencies in the southeast
15:11of the Bolivarian state, organized crime rings operated in the area were dismantled.
15:16During the operation, clashes occurred with members of these criminal organizations,
15:21resulting in the neutralization of Hector Rosenfort Guerrero Flores, alias Niño Guerrero,
15:27leader of a criminal organization. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
15:31Rafi means commitment to the fight against organized crime, and will continue to take
15:36the necessary measures to guarantee peace, tranquility, and the protection of our people.
15:53And we now go with our special segment on the occasion of the World Cup,
15:57beyond the game. The ball stays pure. Go ahead, Luis. Pleasure to share Seth with you.
16:01Good morning, Pablo. Good morning to our audience. That's right,
16:04we're going to be talking about yesterday's results, and we'll have all the details
16:07right after the break, so don't go away.
16:30Welcome to Beyond the Game. The ball stays pure. The United States opened its World Cup campaign,
16:35with a statement of victory crushing Paraguay 4-1. Mauricio Pochettino's side imposed its tempo
16:40from the start pressing high and attacking with pace. An early on goal gave the U.S. the advantage
16:45before Florian Baloguin struck twice to put the match out of reach. Paraguay briefly threatened,
16:52but struggled to cope with the U.S. intensity and movement in transition. Giovanni Reina added a late
17:00fourth goal to cap a dominant display. The victory puts the United States at the top of Group D.
17:12Yeah, it was definitely, you know, a statement. You know, three goals in the first half,
17:16opening game, you know, I felt like it was a real statement, you know, and that's what we wanted to
17:20do, you know, so I'm very, very delighted with the overall performance, but especially the first half.
17:26Yeah, you know, as I said, when I committed and throughout the whole, you know, the whole cycle
17:30and the whole journey to me being at this point, I've always said, you know, the fans gave me so
17:34much, you know, motivation, you know, showed me so much support and for me the most important thing
17:39has always been to be able to repay that. So, you know, I feel like today's a great opportunity and,
17:44you know, as I said, you know, I just want to continue to show the fans, you know, I made
17:48the
17:48right decision and, you know, there's, I'm completely proud and, you know, I want to, I want to,
17:53you know, continue to make the fans proud as well.
18:00And Group D is taking shape after the opening round of matches at the 2026 World Cup. The
18:04United States sits atop the standings following its emphatic victory over Paraguay, giving the
18:08U.S. an early edge on goal difference. Meanwhile, Australia and Turquie are set to begin their
18:15campaigns with both teams looking to keep pace in what is already becoming a competitive group.
18:20Paraguay, meanwhile, faces an immediate pressure to bounce back in its next match if it hopes to
18:25remain in contention for a place in the knockout stage.
18:37And in the other match of the day, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina played out
18:40a high-intensity clash defined by tactical discipline and moments of brilliance. Yet,
18:46Canada was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in its opening match. Bosnia
18:51took the lead in the first half through Jovo Lukic and then focused on protecting its advantage with
18:57a compact defensive setup. Canada responded by controlling possession and increasing the pressure
19:01after the break. The breakthrough finally came when substitute Kyle Lahren scored the equalizer,
19:07rescuing a valuable point. Despite dominating much of the second half, Canada could not find a winner.
19:23And after this result, Group B remains finally balanced. Both sides picked up their first
19:28point of the tournament with no team yet able to pull away. We still have to see the result of
19:33the
19:33Switzerland-Qatar game later today. Group B is wide open heading into the next round of fixtures,
19:38where a single win could reshape the standings.
19:47Let's take now a moment to revisit the most recent edition of football's greater tournament. Qatar 2022
19:53made history as the first World Cup ever held in the Middle East and the first to be played in
19:57November and December due to the region's extreme summer heat. Let's see some of the best moments.
20:042-2-2 national teams began their journey through the group stage of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar of
20:09November 2022. It was an unusual time of year or a competition traditionally played during June and
20:15July, but FIFA scheduled the tournament for November and December because of the heightened pressures in
20:20that part of the world. The group stage delivered its share of surprises and stand-up performances.
20:25Every team faced a challenging path, even many of the tournament favorites. Argentina suffered a
20:29chucked defeat to Saudi Arabia, while Japan earned a truly victory over Germany. Both Germany and
20:34Belgium were eliminated early than expected, while Morocco emerged as the tournament's biggest
20:39surprise. The North African nation became the first African team in history to reach a World Cup
20:44semi-final, achieving defeat after eliminating both Spain and Portugal. Their historic rune came to an end
20:50in the semi-finals against eventual runner-up France. On their way to the final, Les Blues also defeated
20:55Poland in the rune of 16th and England in the quarter-finals. Argentina, for its part,
20:59overcame Australia in the rune of 16th, then defeated the Netherlands in a dramatic quarter-finals
21:03that was decided in a penalty shootout. In the semi-finals, La Albi Celeste delivered a dominant
21:083-0 victory over the 2018 World Cup runner-up Croatia. The Luceli Stadium hosted the final on
21:14December 18, 2022, a match many considered one of the greatest World Cup finals ever played. Goals
21:20from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria appeared to put Argentina on course for the title, but France fought
21:25back thanks to a brace from their star forward, Kylian Mbappé. After a dense extra time period filled with
21:31drama, the championship was decided in a penalty shootout. There, Gonzalo Montiel converted the
21:38decisive spot kick, sealing Argentina's victory and delivering the nation's third FIFA World Cup title.
21:46Well, this is all for this edition of Beyond the Game. The both states, we are going to be back
21:50with more, especially today. We have an important match between Brazil and Morocco, and all eyes are
