Another one bites the dust. Russia’s “ammo king,” Lieutenant General Damir Davydov, has been killed in a precision car bombing deep inside Moscow. As Russian generals continue to fall, questions are mounting about who is behind these attacks—and whether Putin can stop them. Was Davydov betrayed by his own family’s social media post? In this video, we break down the assassination, the growing campaign against Russia’s military elite, and Putin’s escalating paranoia.

00:00In the words of the immortal Freddie Mercury, another one bites the dust.
00:05Deep in the bowels of Russia, something deadly has come for Russian generals.
00:09They're dropping like flies, leaving Russia's military high command in disarray.
00:14Russia can't do anything to stop it. Putin is so terrified that he will be next,
00:19that he's spending the last years of his life hiding out in bunkers.
00:22None of it will change a thing. Russia's ammo king is dead.
00:26And the most ridiculous thing is that the hubris of somebody who was closer to that general than anybody may
00:32be the reason why.
00:33On June 9th, the news broke that there had been another car bombing inside Russia.
00:37The initial reporting was vague.
00:39We knew that a BMW X3 had gone up in flames inside a residential district that is known to house
00:45Russian military generals.
00:47That district is a Moscow suburb named Balashika,
00:50and residents would have heard the blast and seen the flames rise up at around 5.30am.
00:55Some would have been shocked out of bed.
00:57Others would have watched their windows rattle as they tucked into their morning cereal.
01:01But one unfortunate soul was incinerated in the flames, never to trouble Ukraine again.
01:07Russia has tried to keep the blast relatively quiet,
01:10though the Russian authorities have confirmed that the explosion happened.
01:14They've been tight-lipped about who it targeted.
01:17That led to speculation.
01:18The Kyiv Post says that multiple Russian telegram channels suggested that the car bomb had killed Aleksandr Maksimtsev,
01:25who is a senior officer in Russia's aerospace forces.
01:28That would have been some poetic justice for Ukraine.
01:31Any strike against the forces that were responsible for bombarding Ukraine with 8,150 drones and 211 missiles in May
01:39alone
01:39is a strike that sends a message to Putin that revenge will be taken for Russia's attacks against Ukraine's civilians.
01:46But Maksimtsev wasn't the target.
01:48There was an even bigger fish that Ukraine wanted to fry.
01:52Following several hours of speculation, Medusa was among the first to break the news.
01:56Maksimtsev wasn't the target.
01:58The car bomb that rocked Balashika has actually taken out Damidavidov.
02:02Several outlets have confirmed that name,
02:04including the Ukraine Defense Ministry advisor, Serhoy Stenenko.
02:08And with that, we know that the assassins aimed even higher than a senior official.
02:12They took out one of the most important generals in all of Russia's military.
02:16Davidov is, or was,
02:18the head of the main missile and artillery directorate of Russia's defense ministry.
02:22We mentioned Ukraine wanting to get revenge against Russia for its constant missile and drone attacks.
02:27This is the man you hit when you want to send a message to Russia.
02:30Aged 57, Davidov has headed his department since 2017, Euromiden Press reports,
02:36and Ukraine knew all about him and his wicked ways.
02:39Ukraine's Miratvorets database lists Davidov as one of the main minds behind the planning and execution
02:45of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022,
02:49which marks him out as one of the military generals whom Putin trusts more than most.
02:53His responsibility was to keep Russia's soldiers stocked with as many shells and missiles as they needed
02:58during the early weeks of the war, and that wouldn't have changed as the war extended into a four-year
03:02-plus campaign.
03:04Indirectly, Davidov has been responsible for thousands of Ukrainians dying from explosions.
03:09Now, poetic justice has just ripped through his BMW.
03:13So, we know who, but what about how?
03:16That's the big question, and we get some insight from video surveillance footage of the suburb where the assassins struck.
03:21In the video, we see Davidov's vehicle parked in what appears to be a small parking lot.
03:26It doesn't take long for the blast to happen.
03:29It isn't huge.
03:30This wasn't a fireball that engulfed everything around it.
03:33The explosion was quick and localized to the car.
03:36But there was more.
03:37It appears that the blast didn't kill Davidov instantly.
03:39More footage shows the BMW driving down a street while flames cascade out of its rear.
03:44That doesn't last long.
03:46Whether Davidov died with his foot on the pedal or he desperately attempted to drive for help isn't clear.
03:50But as his car crashes into another parked on the side of the road, it becomes clear that he's done
03:56for.
03:57Residents tried to help.
03:58Some came out with fire extinguishers to battle the blaze, and they even managed to drag Davidov's lifeless body out
04:04of the wreckage.
04:05But it wasn't enough.
04:06Russia's ammo king is dead, and Putin's artillery and missile forces have just lost one of their most brutal and
04:12brilliant commanders.
04:13Everything else we know about the blast has come out in the press in the hours since.
04:17The Kyiv Post reports that analysis of the surveillance footage suggests that the bomb used to blow up Davidov's car
04:23appears to have had a power equivalent of around 400 grams of TNT.
04:27Again, not much, especially when compared to the 6.5 kilograms typically loaded into the Russian 152mm shells that Davidov
04:35ensured reached the front lines.
04:36But in a contained environment like a car, 400 grams is all you need to take a general out of
04:42the war.
04:43The bombing also took place less than a kilometer away from the location where an almost identical car bombing took
04:49the life of Russian Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik about a year before.
04:53There's a pattern here.
04:54It seems that the assassins know where Russia's most important military figure spend time, and they can access the vehicles
05:00those major officials use.
05:02This was also a very intelligent attack.
05:04We've already mentioned that the blast was small enough to destroy Davidov without being so large that it caused collateral
05:10damage.
05:11Indeed, no civilian casualties have been reported, marking this as an extremely well-planned and precise attack.
05:17That also means that none of this was random or opportunistic.
05:21Davidov would have been watched, perhaps for days, as the assassins determined his daily routine and worked out when would
05:27be the best time for them to strike.
05:29The car bomb was triggered at the perfect time, and in the right location, to ensure that it was Davidov
05:34and Davidov alone who succumbed to the blast.
05:37But here's the big twist.
05:39The assassins had a helping hand, and it came from somebody that Davidov would never have expected to betray him.
05:45His own son.
05:47The only solace that Davidov would have if he weren't dead is that the betrayal wasn't intentional.
05:52In an interview with The Sun, security specialist Will Gedders makes the striking revelation that Davidov's son may have posted
06:00a picture on social media that may have helped the assassins.
06:03That young man, who is currently a military cadet in the Russian army, appears to have posted a picture to
06:08social media that showed off Davidov's assigned vehicle, right down to the registration number.
06:14The assassins couldn't have asked for a better piece of intelligence.
06:17They knew exactly what car to hit thanks to the hubris of a young man who just wanted to show
06:21off a fancy car to his friends.
06:24Now, Gedders reveals that these claims haven't been 100% confirmed yet, but if they do turn out to be
06:28true, what we see here is a remarkable failing in the Russian security setup.
06:33Russia knows that its generals are marked men.
06:36Enough of them have died to similar attacks over the last few years to prove that, as you'll soon discover.
06:40For the son of a high-ranking military official to be so ignorant of the need to keep every identifying
06:45feature of his father's military-assigned vehicle off social media, represents a catastrophic failure in Russia's ability to protect its
06:53own.
06:54Putin will see this, and he'll be terrified of what it means.
06:57If his generals are being unintentionally betrayed by their own family members, he'll have to tighten his own security to
07:03the point of insanity.
07:04As Putin scrambles to shore up his own security, he'll also know that the loss of Davidov means a fourth
07:10lieutenant general has bitten the dust since the start of the war.
07:14We've already mentioned Moskalik, who was the deputy chief of the general staff of the Russian Armed Forces' main operational
07:19directorate.
07:20He succumbed to a similar bombing in April 2025.
07:24Before him, there was Lieutenant General Igor Kirilov.
07:27He led Russia's chemical defense unit and was killed by a bomb planted in an electric scooter in December 2024.
07:34And a year after that initial assassination, Lieutenant General Fanil Savarov was taken out by a car bomb planted under
07:40his Kia Sorento in southern Moscow.
07:43He oversaw the general staff's operational training.
07:45If we didn't know any better, we would say that Ukraine is specifically targeting generals who played larger roles in
07:51the invasion of its territory.
07:52But we do know better. Ukraine hasn't claimed responsibility for any of these attacks.
07:57Maybe it's all just a big coincidence that generals whom Ukraine wants dead are getting blown up in their cars.
08:03As if Putin wasn't already scared enough by all of this, it also appears that the bombing of Davidov's car
08:09wasn't the only attempt made against Russian senior officials on June 9th.
08:13Hours after the blast that claimed Davidov's life, a Zika electric vehicle caught fire in Moscow's Konkovo district.
08:20Euromidin press reports.
08:22Coincidence?
08:23Perhaps.
08:24But the timing is certainly strange.
08:25And the same outlet also reveals that Moscow police were forced to evacuate the Nebo shopping center in Moscow's Sontsevo
08:33district after a suspicious object was found underneath a parked car.
08:37Mass vehicle searches were ordered throughout Moscow as a result and it's starting to seem as though there was a
08:42mini campaign in play.
08:44Two bombs were either found or went off with no casualties.
08:47But the one that kicked it all off claimed the life of the man it was supposed to kill.
08:51Putin's generals are dying all around him to saboteurs deep inside Moscow.
08:56Russia's leader is losing his grip.
08:58The Ukraine invasion that he started has spiraled out of his control.
09:02And Putin is now desperately attempting to strengthen his security, as well as the security that surrounds his generals, to
09:08prevent a repeat.
09:09None of it is working.
09:10And the threat that is being posed on his own turf has sent Putin into hiding.
09:14Before we dig deeper, this is a quick reminder that you are watching the military show.

09:22our analysis of the latest developments in the Ukraine war.
09:26Putin wouldn't have foreseen any of this when he launched his so-called special military operation.
09:32Russia was supposed to steamroll into Ukraine, take Kiev in days, and that would be the end of it.
09:36Putin will be able to hold his glorious parades and present himself as the great conqueror who returned what he
09:42claimed that Russia always held back to the motherland.
09:45But over four years of gruesome warfare later, Putin has to face up to the fact that the war he
09:51started has spiraled out of his control.
09:53Putin has become so consumed by his war that he has lost focus on running his own country.
09:59Mobile internet is being shut down, social media networks are being targeted, and it's all happening because Putin has lost
10:05his grip to the point where he is engulfed in paranoia.
10:08And you could argue that he's right to be scared.
10:11As his generals drop like flies around him, Putin is doing everything that he can think of to protect his
10:15own skin.
10:16That's what the internet shutdowns are about.
10:18Control over everything.
10:20It doesn't matter to Putin that a wellspring of disappointment and anger now surrounds him.
10:24Running right up to the elites inside Russia, who have watched Putin fail to deliver on his promises.
10:29If anything, that only makes Putin more paranoid.
10:32And it's leading him to make security decisions that are limiting his ability to lead a country that he has
10:37already forced down the path of despair.
10:39Just a month before Davidov met his fiery end,
10:42CNN reported that Putin had ordered a dramatic increase in the scale of security around himself and some of his
10:48leading generals.
10:49Those measures involved installing security cameras in the homes of some of his top officials.
10:54Whether that was for their protection or so that intelligence services could watch those officials on Putin's behalf isn't clear.
11:00Fears of a coup are in the air, CNN adds.
11:03And those fears, coupled with the wave of assassinations happening throughout Russia,
11:07have led to Putin diving deeper into his own paranoia.
11:10Now, cooks, photographers and bodyguards who work for Putin are banned from taking public transport.
11:16Putin doesn't want the risk of those people being identified and followed to wherever he happens to be hiding out
11:21this particular week.
11:22Many of these measures were put in place in the wake of Savarov's December assassination.
11:26And Putin has also cut back on his travel.
11:29There are only a handful of select locations where Russia's leader may be found and all are filled to the
11:34rafters with security apparatus.
11:36Putin has also curtailed his trips to Russian military facilities, having visited precisely none of them in 2026, up to
11:43CNN's May report.
11:44It's clear what Russia's leader is doing here.
11:46He wants to present as few opportunities for assassins or drones to reach him,
11:50and his solution to the problem that has killed so many of his generals is to hide away as much
11:55as possible.
11:55That may work for Putin, but it didn't do much to save Davidov from yet another car bomb.
12:00Also not helping are a couple of factors that may have contributed to Davidov's assassination beyond careful planning and his
12:07son's alleged social media snafu.
12:09In the wake of Saratov's killing, Putin summoned his top security personnel to figure out the next steps.
12:15The result was infighting in the Kremlin as the chief of the general staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery
12:20Gerasimov,
12:21hurled criticism at the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, for failing to protect his officers.
12:27Bortnikov fired back with claims that he wasn't being given the resources he needed to protect those people, CNN reports.
12:33Infighting within the organizations that are supposed to be protecting Russia's generals is hardly the best way to come up
12:38with a plan to keep them safe from car bombs.
12:41Davidov just found that out, and Russia is once again trying to come up with solutions to a problem that
12:46it hasn't been able to fix for years.
12:48Keeping so many of its generals in residential neighborhoods that are designed specifically for those top officials isn't helping.
12:55Russia creates entire blocks of homes and apartments for its military officials,
12:58which means there are obvious targets for assassins to scope out all over Moscow.
13:03Status is coming back to bite those who cozy up to Putin.
13:06The insider revealed that in a March 2023 report,
13:09where it reported that senior military officials are receiving housing from the Russian military that is, in many cases, worth
13:14millions of dollars.
13:16All an assassin has to do is follow the money.
13:19Eventually, they'll locate a Russian general.
13:21As Putin fails to realize that his attempts to reward his corrupt generals are also putting targets on their backs,
13:27he hides away.
13:27Beyond the security measures that we've already mentioned,
13:31Russia's leader now spends most of his time tucked away in underground bunkers.
13:34That's according to The Independent, which says that Putin now spends weeks in his bunkers,
13:39only emerging when absolutely necessary,
13:41such as during events where he's trying to put a brave face on the collapse of Russia,
13:45both in Ukraine and economically.
13:47Air defense systems have been moved en masse to Putin's residences,
13:50which means that soldiers on the front aren't getting the benefit from the S-400 and Pantsir S-1 systems
13:56that are instead guarding Putin.
13:58UNN adds that Putin has significantly increased the powers held by the FSO,
14:03which the outlet claims is behind many of the internet outages that are designed to protect Putin.
14:10Putin is so terrified that Ukraine could be coming for him next that he's in hiding.
14:15This is the strong man of Russian politics, the man who is supposed to be the defender of Russia.
14:20All we see is a terrified coward hiding out in bunkers as his generals die around him.
14:25And so we come back to Davidov.
14:27Putin's paranoia didn't protect him or the trio of other lieutenant generals in the upper echelons of Russia's military establishment
14:33who have succumbed to car and scooter bombs.
14:36Even more terrifying for Putin is that the ammo king of Russia and his high-level compatriots
14:41aren't the only important military figures who have been dying on Putin's own turf.
14:45The hit list is large.
14:47It had reached 12 names by December 2025, and Davidov adds unlucky number 13.
14:53And Ukraine remains tight-lipped about all of it.
14:56We can assume that Ukraine was behind Davidov's assassination.
14:59Russia will certainly blame Ukraine, just as it has for the assassinations of its other military head honchos.
15:04But Ukraine hasn't confirmed anything.
15:06Who wants to keep Russia guessing?
15:08After all, if Ukraine doesn't hold its collective hands up and say,
15:11yes, we killed Davidov, then Putin can never know what happened for sure.
15:15We talk about paranoia.
15:16Imagine what's happening in the mind of the Russian leader right now.
15:18He's pretty sure that Ukraine killed another of his generals, but not 100% sure.
15:23And when there's talk of a coup, and there's unrest in the Kremlin,
15:27there's always the possibility, no matter how small,
15:29that it was somebody far closer to Putin who ordered this assassination.
15:33Maybe Davidov's son was in on it all along.
15:36Perhaps he published pictures of his dad's BMW on social media
15:39to purposefully reveal the vehicle that needed to be taken out.
15:42We're not saying any of this is true.
15:44We're also not saying that none of it is true.
15:46And that is Putin's problem.
15:48He fears for his life because nothing feels certain around him anymore.
15:52There are saboteurs in the shadows, assassins in the midst,
15:55and the never-ending threat of drones in the sky.
15:58So Putin stays in his bunker,
16:00helpless as he watches more of his generals bite the dust.
16:03Russia's ammo king is dead.
16:05And that's only the start of Putin's problems inside Russia.
16:08Ukraine has just shown that its agents can penetrate deep into Moscow
16:11and strike under Russia's nose,
16:13assuming that Ukraine was behind the killing of Davidov.
16:16Elsewhere in St. Petersburg,
16:17Ukrainian drones have attacked a key Baltic fleet base
16:20that was never supposed to be in their range.
16:22A corvette has been crippled.
16:24The new Baltic front has been opened.
16:26And as the scope of the Ukraine war widens,
16:29the net around Putin is tightening.
