00:00And right now we are two minutes away from the end of the trading day.
00:04Romaine Bostic here with Emily Grafaele.
00:05We're taking you through to that closing bell.
00:07It's a global simulcast.
00:08Carol Masser, she pops up on the screen.
00:10Tim Stanovic, he's there too.
00:11Welcome to our audiences across all of our Bloomberg platforms,
00:14television, radio, our partnership with you two.
00:17Would this be better?
00:19I don't know.
00:19For all you radio folks, cover your ears because Carol,
00:22who knows what Carol's about to do.
00:23I'm going to stay here on Wall Street.
00:24We should point out S&P up, the NASDAQ up, the Dow up.
00:28Though we're seeing Russell 2000, mid-caps, transports in the red,
00:31closing out the week and closing out pretty much what across the board is a down month
00:35for at least the major benchmarks here in the U.S.
00:38Yeah, it's kind of interesting to see.
00:40I mean, so much movement, I feel like, this last month.
00:43But nonetheless, I don't know.
00:45We're wrapping up.
00:46Overall, little change for the month.
00:48I've been looking at the MAG7.
00:50It's up about 3.5% in today's session.
00:52So once again, investors moving into these big tech names.
00:56Not if you're Apple.
00:57Apple's having a really rough day, but everybody else, they're up.
01:00So that's the thing.
01:01Tech stocks have had a rough month.
01:02It's been a very volatile month.
01:04But we are actually completely flat month to date on the S&P 500 right now,
01:09despite the ups and downs over the last four weeks.
01:12Yeah, the VIX is down as well, at least for today.
01:15It's interesting.
01:16But, you know, this is kind of what we expect for a July, a summer month.
01:20Not too much movement on the index level.
01:23I love your optimism.
01:24You are definitely glass half of full kind of people.
01:27The NASDAQ composite is down 3% month to date.
01:31NASDAQ 100 is down 6.5% month to date.
01:34The Russell 2000 is down 3% month to date.
01:37The Sox, 21% month to date.
01:42Dow Transports, 3% month to date.
01:44And we can take the month to date out now because the month has officially ended,
01:48at least when it comes to trading here in the cash session for U.S. markets.
01:52On the day, definitely a reason for optimism.
01:54The Dow adding about 280 points or half a percent.
01:58The S&P adding 52 points or 7 tenths of a percent, closing just shy of that 7,500 mark.
02:03The NASDAQ composite up 1% even on the day.
02:07The NASDAQ 100 adding about 6 tenths of a percent.
02:10The Russell 2000, though, is going to sit this one out down about a half a percentage point.
02:14All right, guys.
02:15And the S&P 500, I mentioned we've been talking about this almost an even split.
02:21A little bit more names to the downside.
02:23281.
02:24But I just want to do a really quick thing.
02:26Bear with me, Emily.
02:27Because I just pulled up the S&P 500.
02:30She's actually writing some code right now.
02:32She's vibe coding.
02:33What do you think is the biggest?
02:36You guys are wacky.
02:37What is the biggest gainer in the S&P 500 for the month overall?
02:42I don't know.
02:44Cognizant tech solution.
02:45I was going to say PayPal.
02:4735%.
02:47I would not have got that.
02:48PayPal is number two.
02:49Very nicely done.
02:49I was going to say Alphabet.
02:50What do you think is the worst performer in the S&P for the month?
02:54A chip name.
02:55No.
02:56Chip related.
02:57Yeah, that's memory.
02:58It's optical.
03:00Oh, Corning.
03:01Corning?
03:02It's Sandus.
03:02It's Sandus.
03:03Oh, you guys, this is a fun game.
03:05Corning is the second worst performer, down 37%.
03:07Well done, Romain.
03:09But even better is Emily.
03:11Does this conversation get better?
03:13Where are we going with this?
03:13Down 40% in the month.
03:15It's Sandus.
03:16Sandus, right?
03:17Oh, Sandus.
03:17Tim and I got it.
03:18Emily gets the credit for that.
03:19Yeah, I think I said it first.
03:21You did.
03:21Congratulations, Emily.
03:22Thanks for keeping us on track.
03:23By the way, we need Sandus Garnins next week, too.
03:54Yeah, see?
03:55Mixed Bag.
03:56Consumer Discretionary, also a leader here, at least on the sector level for the day.
04:01All right.
04:01I'm feeling really group effort.
04:02So I want each of you to go SPX, Index, DES.
04:06I thought there was going to be homework.
04:07And do NDX, Index, DES.
04:10Look at the one, two, three top gainers in both of those index.
04:14Yeah, well, without even looking, I know where you're going with this.
04:17But they're exactly the same.
04:19Well, that's the world we live in right now.
04:21I know.
04:22It's an AI world.
04:23Amazon, Dexcom, and then you've got monolithic power systems.
04:27Those are the number one, two, three gainers in the S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100.
04:32Thanks for playing along, everybody.
04:34All right.
04:34So Amazon, let's get to it.
04:36A 15%, man, just surging.
04:39The company, we know the story, reported second quarter results that beat expectations on key
04:43metrics, including revenue at AWS, Amazon Web Services.
04:47That revenue jumped 37% to $42.2 billion.
04:52So important.
04:53Most of the operating profit for Amazon comes from AWS.
04:56They've raised their projection for 2026 CapEx to $220 billion from a previous estimate of $200,
05:02so up by $20 billion.
05:04CEO Andy Jassy is saying most of that spending would go toward AI.
05:07But nonetheless, investors love.
05:08There was so much in that report, but so much that investors like.
05:11And again, that's like up 15%.
05:13All right.
05:13Number one gainer in those two indexes, as I mentioned.
05:16Number two gainer is Dexcom.
05:18That stock also moving today up almost 12%.
05:22This is after the diabetes device maker boosted the lower end of its revenue forecast for the
05:26full year, following better-than-expected results in the second quarter.
05:29Stocks had a pretty good year.
05:30It's up about 25% year-to-date.
05:32Several analysts raising their price targets on the stock, including Piper Sandler, Wells Fargo,
05:37Stiefel, Bayard City, a lot of them.
05:39And then the third top gainer in both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100, monolithic power system
05:45soaring as much as 19% intraday, but finishing the day with a gain of more than 8%.
05:51It's a semiconductor device company, reported second quarter results, had beat expectations,
05:56and they gave a revenue forecast that is above the analyst consensus.
05:59Our BI, Bloomberg Intelligence Team, said the results validate the thesis that the company's
06:04expanding penetration and diversification across data center infrastructure build-outs
06:09are driving growth.
06:11Okay.
06:12I got the decliners, and I'm going with all superlatives today.
06:15We got to start with Apple tumbling after component shortages weighed on the company's
06:20sales forecast.
06:20Yeah, shares of Apple fell by 7.3%.
06:23At one point, this was going to be the worst day going back to March of 2020, which was
06:28the COVID panic.
06:30Now, worst day since April of 2025, which was the so-called Liberation Day panic.
06:36The company's services growth will decelerate in the September quarter.
06:41It warned of an impact from regulatory changes to its App Store business model in the EU.
06:45And elsewhere, shares of Apple, once again, down by 7.4%.
06:49Worst day ever for Roblox since going public back in 2021.
06:54Shares just tumbled, 27%.
06:57Go ahead, Romain.
06:58Yeah, this whole Roblox story.
06:59I mean, just going back the last couple of years, just absolutely fascinating.
07:02Just I don't know what the management is doing over there.
07:04Well, I mean, the safety issue is huge.
07:06And Bloomberg Businessweek has done a great job covering that and what the company...
07:11But they've had so many opportunities to address this.
07:13And maybe now it's starting to hit because you have parents saying, well, you know, we're
07:18not going to let our kids on the platform.
07:20Daily active users missed analyst expectations.
07:24The company's users fell short of those estimates.
07:26Bookings also came in lower than expected.
07:28Also, the worst day ever for Reddit.
07:31This, after the company failed to announce any new data licensing agreements in its latest
07:35earnings report, Reddit shares fell, Romain, by 21%.
07:38All right, let's take a quick look at yields.
07:40Of course, coming off that big jump up higher that we saw on Wednesday, that subsided on
07:45Thursday, but the trajectory back in place here on this Friday.
07:49In fact, you take a look at the 30-year yield, where it is today and where it was a
07:53month
07:54ago.
07:54In fact, the biggest jump that we've seen on a monthly basis in at least two and a half
07:59years.
08:00All right, guys, what do you want to chat?
08:02I mean, let's just let Carol do it because she's just going to go in her own direction.
08:05You know, I've been following this Diva story.
08:07Yeah.
08:07From the man who interrupts all the time.
08:09The potential own goal that the FIFA president and peace prize giver is doing here with this
08:16backroom deal with Joshua Kushner to basically sell off the stake in the commercial arm of
08:22the World Cup and all of the soccer federation, not all of them, but at least the bigger ones
08:26like UEFA and CONCAP basically saying, what the heck, dude?
08:30And I mean, this doesn't seem like this is going to blow over.
08:32No, I don't think it's going to happen.
08:33Right.
08:34Yeah.
08:35Well, I don't know.
08:36I mean, what's to stop him?
08:38Well, all these.
08:40You should say.
08:40Yeah.
08:40Yeah.
08:41UEFA boycotting the next World Cup.
08:43Yeah.
08:44That's what's going to stop him.
08:45Well, that's what they say.
08:45Yeah.
08:46So without as Randall Williams and Vanessa Perdoma, Maglione told us earlier, without UEFA,
08:51FIFA's got nothing.
08:52Yeah.
08:52Right.
08:53Well, they know their power.
08:53I guess the question is, are they going to stand by that?
08:56Or, you know, maybe they cut a deal.
08:57I don't know.
08:58Yeah, but they also said the regionals, like, make a lot of money off of their own little,
09:01you know, not little, but own tournaments and matches and stuff.
09:04So, you know, what are they giving up if they accept?
09:07I just love the drama here.
09:08And it seems like, you know, I don't know.
09:10I guess he felt, Infantino felt like, hey, he's coming off of this high of putting on this
09:14great World Cup that was a huge success, despite a lot of the hand-wringing.
09:18And, you know, now he's trying to play that hand into, you know, whatever this deal was
09:21that he struck without consulting.
09:23I'm hearing we need to take a hydration break.
09:25You seem pretty invested in this.
09:26I am, actually.
09:27Yeah, I can feel it.
09:28You know, I'm a big, big, huge international football fan.
09:31We understand you've got a lot going on on that side.
09:33At least every three years.
09:33So we're going to let you go.
09:34All right.
09:35Have a great and safe...
09:36I think we should have left like 45 seconds ago.
09:40You know, that hurts us.
09:41Oh, I love you.
09:42Have a great weekend.
09:42Yeah, I love you too.
09:43All right.
