00:00Thank you for listening.
00:43All right, you know, my mother-in-law lives out here in eastern Idaho, and there's a little secret here.
00:49It's called Yellowstone Bear World.
00:51You know, we're not too far from Yellowstone Park, but, you know, Yellowstone Park's got a lot of people traipsing,
00:56too.
00:56You really can't see the bears.
00:58Well, if you want to see bears, you want to come here to eastern Idaho, not too far from Rexburg,
01:04at Yellowstone Bear World.
01:06And, well, let's take a look.
01:08He's not in rut season right now, so he's pretty nice.
01:12But you can see the velvet on his antlers right there, and then that little bit of kink.
01:16Those are just the blood vessels growing up with it.
01:19So they'll grow, then they will scratch all that velvet off, and they'll be the normal antlers you see on
01:24the walls or in stores.
01:27And then he'll shed them off.
01:28The antlers grow their little prongs on the outside, depending on how healthy the elks are and how old they
01:35are.
01:35They segregate by gender.
01:38So the males will hang out with the males, and the females will hang out with the females until it's
01:41breeding season.
01:42Well, it's kind of like a high school dance, I guess.
01:44It is a middle school dance, one on each side.
01:46But then breeding season takes over, and they'll co-mingle.
01:50All right, now we're going into the real zone.
01:54We are going into the bear area.
02:00And we'll pull a little bit forward, way to get everyone behind us.
02:06So this first area that we're coming into is our grizzly area.
02:11The bears.
02:17So this, all right, right up here, we'll go down.
02:23So these guys here, this is Bert and Ted.
02:32Hey, boy.
02:34Hi, Bertie.
02:36Hey, Bert.
02:37How's it going?
02:40Hi, Bert.
02:41And then Ted.
02:41Ted has more of a teddy bear-like ear to him.
02:44Hey, Bert.
02:46You must be pumped about the Cubs' 10-game winning streak.
02:48Say hi.
02:49Hey, Bert.
02:50How's it going?
02:52Here's Ted.
02:54Checking this out.
02:56Bitchy.
02:59I mean, they must be very excited about the Cubs.
03:03They don't even lose at home.
03:05I mean, everything's going right for them right now.
03:09I mean, you guys have nothing to complain about with the bears and the Cubs.
03:12Bears are improving.
03:13They shredded the Packers.
03:16I have Tom and Boo-Boo.
03:19Boo-Boo is the small female right here.
03:22They are a breeding pair, but we do not breed grizzlies at this park.
03:26Say hi, Boo-Boo.
03:28She is, but she is ferocious.
03:30She is the scariest one out of all four.
03:33And then, hi, buddy.
03:35Are they going to be trying to steal someone's picnic basket?
03:39No, we had to kick Yogi out because of the picnic basket thieves.
03:43Oh, poor Yogi.
03:45Poor Yogi.
03:47All right.
03:48Now we're entering our black bear area.
03:51So we have one guy over there.
03:57When Yellowstone National Park was around in the early 70s, people used to be able to go up and see
04:03the bears eat out of the trash cans.
04:04They'd feed the bears out of the back of their stagecoach in the 60s and 70s.
04:08Well, it became a threat to the tourists that kept coming into the area, and the bears would start getting
04:14upset.
04:15So when Preston's grandpa created Yellowstone Bear World, his idea was to bring back what it was like to go
04:23to Yellowstone National Park before all the people were there.
04:26You would see the bears in the roadways.
04:28You'd have bear jams everywhere.
04:29You'd see them just walking in the wild.
04:31They had no care about the people because it was still their land.
04:35So that's what we try to bring back at Bear World.
04:38I tell a lot of people, if you are going to Yellowstone, either make a stop before or after at
04:44Yellowstone Bear World to see these guys.
04:46Off!
04:47No!
04:49Off!
04:54Go!
05:00Just keep going.
05:03Off!
05:04No!
05:06I'm not playing.
05:07He decided to climb over to the beach.
05:10And I said, right there.
05:12Those are their nails.
05:17Okay, these cops look like they're fighting each other right now.
05:20Wrestling around, horsing around.
05:28Um...
05:29January.
05:30Yeah, January.
05:31January.
05:32I'll call people that I have on my desk.
05:40I mean, things are going really good for the Cubs right now.
05:42They've won 10 in a row.
05:44They haven't lost at Wrigley in like, uh, since the first week of the season.
05:52Oh, this guy likes being on camera.
05:54Look at him.
05:54This is Linus.
05:55He's the famous goat.
05:57We're going to go grab you a quarter and show you his trick.
06:01Huh, Linus?
06:13How's he pulling that?
06:16How's he pulling that?
06:18Is it hooked?
06:19Look at this goat.
06:20This goat could actually use a vending machine.
06:22Yeah, that's, yeah.
06:23And he's taught all these younger ones how to do it, too.
06:34Hey, St. Peter's.
06:36You know they had that big run.
06:37Are you a fan of the Carolina disco turkeys?
06:45Hey, meow for some hot dogs.
06:49All right, Bear World has its hot dog, and it's got nice grill marks.
06:55Split naturally.
06:56You see, when you let the hot dog split naturally, you keep its juices.
07:00The bundle dog ratio looks pretty good.
07:02So let's see if this hot dog, which is, and keep in mind, this is a national park,
07:09is worthy.
07:11All right, here I am doing an impromptu raw dog here at Bear World.
07:24You know, this is a good hot dog for a souvenir stand.
07:28I'm going to give this a solid double.
07:32Hey, you know, Big Cat took the, uh, the trough from the, uh, urinal,
07:37bathroom in the bathroom at your stadium.
07:38What do you think about that?
07:40Can't be too happy about that.
07:45I think this bison's banging his head on the, uh, post over there.
07:49Because he knows the Bills are never going to win a Super Bowl.
07:52Get me.
07:53I am feeding the bears.
07:57This bear's just sitting here.
07:59I mean, hey, you got to go walk to it.
08:02There it is.
08:03Come on.
08:03You can't just sit there.
08:05They're not going to hand feed you.
08:06They'll take their hand off.
08:08Come on.
08:08You got to eat.
08:09Manja, manja.
08:10Bon appetit.
08:13There you are.
08:16Here you go.
08:20You looking for a picnic basket?
08:22I don't think I have a picnic basket.
08:43There you go.
08:47Time to feed the little babies.
08:49Peace.
