00:00Hannah, my home girl, she's my first introduction to Below Deck, my first season, and I think
00:06to have it come full circle and have her come to visit me while I've, you know, grown into this
00:13space, it just felt like a very special pinch me kind of moment.
00:20Virtual reality.
00:23Aisha Scott, another season of Below Deck Med is upon us. Danny and I are so excited to be
00:28catching up with you ahead of this new season. I heard that this is your favorite season ever.
00:34Why is that?
00:35Favorite season ever. Favorite season of all time. I think it was a mix of things. I think
00:42the casting was absolutely incredible. So every single person that was on there was really
00:48interesting and fun and brought such good storyline. I think there was a really great mix of drama,
00:55but truncated by hilarious moments. There was so much humor dotted throughout. And then I think
01:02finally, the fact that I got a third stew for the first time ever meant that I was able to
01:10give
01:10an even more elevated guest experience. So you'll see really, really fun activities that we do with
01:17the guests.
01:17Oh, we love that. And I'm also glad you had more hands on deck, especially this season,
01:21because you were literally planning a wedding during it too, which I don't know how you-
01:25Yes!
01:26I know. Poor Scott. He became, he became my fourth stew. I was sending him these to-do lists
01:33the whole time and he was very good. But it was on my mind a lot, for sure.
01:39Because you did have to plan this wedding. I mean, that is such a big feat. I actually,
01:42I was planning a wedding and then I stopped planning a wedding and I decided to elope because I hated
01:46the process of planning a wedding because it was way too stressful for me. So I can't imagine doing
01:50that while working on a yacht, also filming a TV show. Was there any part of you that almost said
01:56no to this season because you were so busy planning the wedding?
02:00No, no way. Honestly, I'd like, I can see why you think maybe that, but I just love,
02:08I love yachting so much. I love Below Deck so much. It's my favorite thing ever. And so
02:15everything has to work around me doing that. And if it means I've got to get into bed and I've
02:20got to drip with sweat a little bit and make sure that everything's on track outside of that,
02:25then so be it.
02:26I love that you did that. And also I love to, I'm wondering, did any of, because we were also
02:31hearing that there's a lot, a big influx of Gen Z helping you out.
02:35Yes.
02:36Did Gen Z give you any advice for wedding planning? Like, do they have any ideas of it? Or did
02:40you,
02:41you know what I mean? Like, what do they think about weddings? I don't know what,
02:46I think that weddings are kind of becoming outdated now, you know, like they're rapidly
02:51going out of fashion. So I don't think any of them had any thoughts of marriage or even
02:58relationships on their mind, as they shouldn't, you know, they're young and they should be having
03:03fun. But it was, it was so funny having so many Gen Zs on there because I like for my
03:09whole yachting
03:10career, I've been like the young, fun, crazy party one that would look at like the older people on
03:17the crew and be like, Oh, shame. It must be so boring to be over there, like not doing what
03:21we're
03:22doing. And now like this season, I was, I still have a good time, but I was like, Whoa, you
03:28guys are
03:28crazy. And it's the first time that I've realized I'm actually that person on the other side now.
03:34But instead of feeling sad about it, like I thought I would, I am so happy and so at peace
03:40and so content. And I feel like this mom that's just like, yes, spread your wings. Go be crazy.
03:47Was it fun to learn any new Gen Z lingo? I am always so fascinated by the way they speak.
03:52I almost
03:53can't understand them, but I really, I try to level with them. I honestly very much do it. I think
03:59it's
03:59fun to learn a new language. Oh, you know, I'm like, I'm again, this is showing my, me like
04:07becoming that other person now, because now I'm that grumpy old person that's, I know I'm not old,
04:11by the way, I'm just making fun. Uh, but now I'm that grumpy person on the other side that's like,
04:16what are you talking about? You're being so silly. And I just feel like it's a whole bunch of garbage.
04:22The lingo annoys me. And I'm like, why do you keep going? Riz, riz, riz. Like, just say charisma.
04:31It's not that long of a word. Wait, but what's funny is, do they feel like, because like you were
04:37saying, from past seasons of Below Deck, the millennial cast, they flirt and they get into some,
04:43some fun. Is, is Gen Z just as flirt? Like, are they, are they rizzing each other?
04:50Yeah, they are rizzing each other and they are rizzing each other hard. I guess they've just got
04:55like slightly different styles than how we went about it. But the horned up life is still well
05:01and strong. Wow. That is amazing. I mean, like you said, there is so much going on this season.
05:07This is the first time we're kind of on land and at sea because Nathan's got a new baby that
05:12he's got
05:12to take care of. It's exciting. It's very exciting. What was it like filming a season like this for
05:17the first time? And also like, you know, working your first yacht moments. Like, I mean, because
05:22this isn't typical. We're surfing and turfing. Yeah. No, yeah. Yum. Yes, very not typical. And it was
05:30really cool to be able to do this because I think, you know, we're always looking for new ways to
05:36keep
05:36the show interesting and fun. And it was just such an organic thing to bring into the show. And I
05:43think especially because Nathan and Gail have been on the seasons for a while now, everyone, you do get
05:48invested in people's lives and their storylines and to get a kind of look behind the curtain at what
05:53it's like with Nathan juggling parenthood and having to pop in and see Gail and how Gail is going. It's
05:59just so interesting. Yeah. Did it also kind of give you a vision of what parenthood could maybe look
06:06like for you and your husband? Like, did it kind of excite you about the prospect of having kids?
06:12Yes, but it made me think there is absolutely no way in hell I'm having kids and carrying on yachting.
06:18I was just like, Nathan did such a good job. He's such a good person. And he like did his
06:25very best at
06:26keeping his head in the game. But just watching how much of a struggle that was for him. Because
06:33it's not like, it's hard enough when you've got parents that are going to, when one parent has to
06:37go to a nine to five. But with yachting, it's like minimum 16 hour shifts. And so to focus on
06:45that,
06:45when the person that you love and this baby that is your whole heart is seven minutes away, like I
06:51just
06:52can't imagine how difficult that was. So I was like, I can't be doing a two month long 16 hour
06:58day
06:58type job if I'm going to be having children. That is so real. But also, I do feel like dealing
07:03with
07:03some of the charters y'all get, it's like, they might be in their 50s, but they are essentially
07:08babies and toddlers walking around. So you are very well prepped for it. And I almost wonder too,
07:14it's like, oh my god, you don't get reprieved from crying and screaming. So true. I get so much
07:21of it with my charter guests. And then I'm like boat mom that's having to mediate all the drama
07:26that's going on on board. So I would be absolutely burnt out if I then had to go home and
07:31deal with
07:32an actual baby as well. Oh my god, how are the guests this upcoming season? They are actually
07:38really, really, really cool. I think, yeah, because I was able to provide, you know, an
07:45even higher standard with extra, with an extra stew, they really received it well. We had some
07:50people who were huge Game of Thrones fans. So being in Dubrovnik was awesome. And we had
07:56Johnny Damon and Michelle, Johnny Michelle Damon come back. And that's the third time I've had
08:02them. So it was really nice because it felt like serving my family, you know, old time friends.
08:08And then there was a reunion with Hannah this season, which is so much fun. What was that
08:13like? What was it like having her back in the mix? The buzziest thing ever. Because, you know,
08:20Hannah, my homegirl, she's my first introduction to Below Deck, my first season. And I think
08:26to have it come full circle and have her come to visit me while I've, you know, grown into this
08:33space. It just felt like a very special pinch me kind of moment. Yeah, that is beautiful. And also
08:39how pinched me. And she came all the way, all the way from Australia. You know, she was there for
08:44like
08:45three days to cheer me on. So she put the, put the work in with those flies. I love that.
08:51And I'm kind of wondering too now, because of course, fans are going to be so excited watching
08:55you, not just be back on the, be on the show now, but doing the wedding planning. But we know
09:00now
09:00present day, the wedding happened. It looked amazing. The photo's all stunning. What is the best,
09:05what is the best part of being married?
09:08Oh, do you know, being married, this sounds so silly, but being married feels so amazing because
09:14now it's honestly the first time in six years that I've really been thinking of us
09:19as a team, because we are such, we are such independent people. And I think that's why
09:24we work so well, because we give each other a very long leash. We have a lot of trust and
09:29we do live like very separate lives a lot of the time. And that was totally fine. But since
09:35we've gotten married, I'm like, I just feel so bonded and feel like such a unit that now
09:40we are taking on a lot of joint projects and we have so many joint plans and it just feels
09:45really special. Like Aisha and Scott verse the world. Yeah. I love that. It's also, it's also
09:50really beautiful that there is separation between your relationship and your experience on reality
09:55TV, because I know a lot of times for relationships and marriages, reality TV can be a bit of a
10:00pressure cooker. How does he feel about how beloved you are, you know, within the Bravo verse?
10:06Like what's his relationship with your fame? I feel like he's probably your biggest fan.
10:12He is. He is. It's so sweet. I was doing this commercial the other day for a brand that will
10:18come out in a couple of months. And, you know, it was quite a big set and there were these
10:23cameras
10:24everywhere. And Scott was out in the, you know, out in the control room watching the screens.
10:29And someone came and told me afterwards, they're like every single take that you did, the whole like
10:35hours that you were doing it, he was just glued to the screen watching you with the biggest smile on
10:40his face, like so proud. And he really is. He's proud. And he's proud that I'm his partner. He's
10:47proud of me as a person. And he's just my biggest cheerleader. He does, you know, anything that I
10:52want to do and achieve. He's like, great. How can we do it? Let's go.
10:56I love that way. And I'm not sure if I missed or not. Did you guys go on a honeymoon
11:00or not?
11:00Because I feel like your life is sort of not, you go to an amazing place all the time, but
11:03you're
11:04always working there. So I don't know what a honeymoon would be for someone in the yawning room.
11:07Did you guys get to do something like that or not yet?
11:10That's a really great observation because you hit the nail on the head. So we ended up
11:17just doing a honeymoon in our favorite town in New Zealand, down in Queenstown. We stayed
11:22pretty local because, well, A, because we had so many people come over from the States and
11:28we didn't want them to all come and then we just bugger off. But the other thing is that,
11:33yes, we travel all the time. We're so fortunate to do so. But so, you know, planning some trip
11:39and going there isn't quite as big of a deal or exciting. For us, it's actually more of
11:44a big deal to spend time at home in New Zealand. So we just decided to stay in New Zealand.
11:50Yeah.
11:50That's why we got to do that. If there are any brides right now who are in the midst of
11:54planning
11:54their wedding and they're super stressed about the experience, just having been through that
11:59experience, what's kind of like the best piece of advice you can give people who are getting married
12:03soon?
12:04Oh, my number one piece of advice is just don't get so caught up in all of the details. At
12:11the
12:11end of the day, the day is about you marrying the person that you love and all these people
12:17that you love being there to witness it. People aren't going to remember if the font was slightly
12:22wrong on the menu or the exact amount of flowers weren't in the vase. And I think so many of
12:28my
12:28friends that I've seen get married, they've been so stressed out because they're so tuned
12:33into all of those little details. And I know that some personality types are just like that.
12:37But if you feel yourself getting stressed about it, you need to just let it go. No one's going
12:43to notice. Just have a good time.
12:45I love that. And some more advice questions before we let you go, because we know we're
12:49going to be watching you manage Gen Z out there. What advice do you have for millennial
12:54managers for Gen Z? How do you keep them in check?
12:59Oh, yeah, that's a good question. I think just talk to them a lot about how they're doing,
13:09how they're feeling. It's a generation that's very much about talking about their emotions,
13:13which I actually think is quite cool. So just check in a lot, have a little bit of fun,
13:18but do let them know that you need to understand what the F they are talking about in the workplace.
13:25So let's just limit the weird lingo, okay?
13:29Okay. And what do you, wait, sorry, I'm just really curious because you did work with Gen Z
13:32this past season. What do you make of their work ethic? Is there something that people get wrong
13:36about Gen Z and their work ethic? Or is the stereotype correct?
13:41That's a great question because I so stereotype Gen Zs as super lazy and super entitled. And that's
13:49not based off nothing. Like that's based off me watching them be like exactly like that in the
13:55workplace, largely that generation and like friends of mine who have been hiring them. It's just been
14:01an absolute nightmare. But what I will say is my stewards this season totally like push that
14:11generalization out of the water and they worked their butts off. Yes, there was drama, but I can't
14:17take away from them that they worked their asses off.
14:19Oh my God. Okay. Well, I mean, they better because you are calling the shots for them. So
14:23you better look right when you're in charge.
14:25Yes.
14:26Exactly. They better or they'll be off the boat.
14:29They'll be turfing. Yes.
14:32Oh my gosh. We love you. Thank you so much for taking the time to catch up with us. And
14:36we're so excited for this new season.
14:37Yes. Thank you, Asha.
14:38Thank you so much. You guys are always so fun and so easy to talk to. So I appreciate it.
