00:00There was this sick man and he had grown sick because he used to eat all kinds of nonsense.
00:05Samosa, kachori, whatever. If you tell him to take fruits and he'll take only mangoes.
00:10So he had grown rotund and fat.
00:12So this one goes to this Sufi master and now he's totally bloated and about to die.
00:17So the Sufi says there is a magical cure for you.
00:20He says it's an edible thing. It is round.
00:23And it does not have one seed. There are hundreds of seeds in one fruit.
00:27It also does not look yellow or green or blue.
00:31It looks red and within it is totally red.
00:34And all the little fruits that are there, they are juicy and also sweet.
00:38All the while the Sufi was lengthening the description, extending it in seemingly stupid way.
00:45The man was even more squirming and writhing with pain.
00:50And he was allowing that pain to increase.
00:53Now the man says, are you talking of a pomegranate?
00:56The teacher says, yes, yes, yes.
00:57So he says, fine, I think I'll try that.
00:59And then the master said, well, I have a few of them with me.
01:03You want?
01:03And he says, yes, yes, yes.
01:06And he initiated himself with the fruit right there.
01:09And then he got some relief and went away.
01:11So one curious disciple now comes to the teacher and says,
01:14why didn't you straight away tell him that he needed some pomegranate?
01:18Why did you have to draw the description to such a ridiculous length?
01:22You know what the Sufi said, he needed the pomegranate, but he also needed some tact.
01:28I gave him both.
01:29If you are not tactful, you will not succeed.
01:32This world is b'yavahar.
01:34You must know the art of tactfully dealing here.
01:38Though all tact must be in the service of truth, but without tact, even serving the truth will become impossible.
01:45The greatest teachers in history were also great tacticians.
01:49They knew how to put something in a way it will penetrate your egoistic armor.
01:54Tactfulness of the highest order.
01:56A thunderous bolt like a Zen Kwan.
