00:00You have all heard that story, right?
00:02Sufi story, Junaid and the cow.
00:05So Junaid is going somewhere with a few of his disciples.
00:11In front of Junaid is a man walking with a cow.
00:15And the man is holding the leash and the cow is behind him.
00:20So Junaid says, wait, this is a moment to learn something.
00:24He asks his disciples, who owns home?
00:27Does the man own the cow?
00:30Does the man lead the cow?
00:32Or does the cow own and lead the man?
00:35The disciples say, sir, it is evident the man owns and leads the cow.
00:39Junaid says, had the answer been so simple, why would I ask the question?
00:44So he says, fine, any of you carrying a knife or a scissor or something?
00:48He gets one.
00:51Insolent as Fakir's heart, he jumps to the man and cuts the cord.
00:57And cows are expert at utilizing such movements.
01:03She just sprints away.
01:05And the man is running behind.
01:08And Junaid asks his chaps, now you tell me who leads whom?
01:12The bondage of the cow was at least material.
01:19But the bondage of the man is so subtle.
01:24The cow is leading the man with nothing to leash the man with except the man's own mind, self, ego.
01:34That's the question you must ask.
01:36Do I own my things or do my things own me?
01:40Good, simple, fun,
01:43But
01:46Creepily unsettling question to ask.
