The Internet is reacting to the viral SCAD jump in India.
Transcript
00:00These visuals from Rishikesh are leaving the internet stunned. Watch closely.
00:06The clip shows several people attempting an extreme adventure activity, plunging into a free fall with no visible rope, harness
00:14or safety line attached to them.
00:15Just a free fall. The viral video has triggered a heated debate online with many asking the same question.
00:21Is this adventure sport or a disaster waiting to happen?
00:24The activity seen in the video is known as cat jumping, short for suspended catcher device.
00:30Unlike bungee jumping, where participants remain connected to a court throughout the jump,
00:34Scadden was a complete free fall before the jumper lands in a specially designed safety net that is engineered to
00:40absorb the impact of the fall.
00:42But on social media, many viewers aren't convinced.
00:45Users have raised concerns about what would happen if a participant's fall off course, if the net is misaligned or
00:51if equipment inspections are inadequate.
00:54And these concerns aren't coming out of nowhere.
00:56In May 2026, a 16-year-old boy died after a zipline cable snapped at an amusement facility in Agra,
01:03causing him to fall nearly 45 feet.
01:05In November 2025, a 24-year-old man was in a critical condition after a bungee jumping rope snapped mid
01:12-air in Rishikesh, causing him to fall 180 feet onto a tin shed.
01:16In May 2024, a 35-year-old nurse died after a zipline cable snapped at a resort near Bengaluru.
01:22And while adventure sports are designed to deliver an adrenal rush, such accidents have shown what can happen when safety
01:29systems fail.
01:29No accident has been reported in connection with this particular scat jump.
01:34And operators say that systems have been safely used by millions of participants worldwide under internationally recognized safety standards.
01:41But for millions watching online, the debate is no longer about this jump alone.
01:46It's about understanding how such activities in India are regulated, monitored and made safe for the thousands of tourists who
01:53sign up for them every year.
