00:00Behavior of some Knicks fans in the aftermath of Game 3
00:04unfortunately has become a monster story here in New York and nationally
00:08as discussed here by Steven Jackson and Matt Barnes on All the Smoke.
00:14One thing I want to touch on, bro, did you see the Knicks fans after the game
00:17beating up people in the streets?
00:19Can I touch on that?
00:20Like, this is my thing, bro.
00:23Like, I understand.
00:24Like, I guarantee you ain't gonna get none of that in San Antonio.
00:27Because a lot of the people are just drunk from having a good time at the game
00:31and they go home.
00:32But, like, when it gets to the point, like, it says a lot not only about the fans
00:38but about the people in New York.
00:39Oh, for sure.
00:40Because, you know, like, even there's a lot of people that's from New York
00:43that understand how good for basketball would be good if the Knicks won a championship.
00:48You got people that's not even from New York rooting for the Knicks
00:51just because of the long drought.
00:54You know what I'm saying?
00:54And even though people are not from New York, a lot of people are Knicks fans.
00:57Like, it's like the Cowboys.
00:59It's one of the biggest organizations, so you have to like it somewhat.
01:02You know what I'm saying?
01:04Everybody's rooting for y'all.
01:05But when y'all do stuff like this, it's like, that's the weakest shit you can do.
01:09Jump on people.
01:10Now, just imagine if they got a game in San Antonio and they do that to y'all fans.
01:15Some of y'all got celebrity fans.
01:17You see what I'm saying?
01:17Like, that's real tacky on the Knicks' behalf, bro.
01:20And it's not like this.
01:21It's not the organization, but the fans, excuse me.
01:23It's not like this hasn't happened before, but it's just on camera now.
01:26And it's just out of pocket, pointless.
01:29You're attacking people just for wearing another jersey.
01:31And none of y'all getting paid by the Knicks.
01:33None of y'all.
01:34They're not going to come bail y'all out.
01:36If somebody died, they're not going to put no money on y'all funeral.
01:38You're doing all this for nothing.
01:39Just enjoy the game, bro.
01:41Excellent stuff on all the smoke with Steven Jackson and Matt Barnes.
01:45So, a couple of things.
01:47Number one, it is absolutely despicable, sick behavior, to beat someone up and start a fight
01:57and clobber them because they're wearing a jersey for the other team.
02:03I think that is as disgraceful, as awful, as twisted, as pathetic, as scary, as nauseating as it gets.
02:13I've seen these videos where it feels like a thousand times.
02:16I get a pit in my stomach every single time I see them.
02:22I, I, no one should have to go through that.
02:25That is sickening.
02:28Absolutely sickening.
02:29That, and it says bad behavior.
02:32This is worse than bad.
02:33I mean, I'll also never understand the mindset of any human being who goes to a sporting event looking to
02:40fight.
02:40Your team wins.
02:42Your team loses.
02:43You want to throw fisticuffs.
02:44You want to beat the hell out of someone.
02:46I mean, that's, what, what kind of person does that?
02:50So, that's where I do want to at least give what I think is an explanation to Stephen Jackson, Matt
02:59Barnes, and to anybody else.
03:01I don't believe these are quote unquote Knicks fans.
03:06You didn't see Knicks fans doing this after, I'll give you a quick example.
03:12The watch parties, game one, game two of the NBA Finals.
03:17Never saw that.
03:19It just didn't happen.
03:20You didn't see that against Cleveland or Philadelphia.
03:23You didn't see that at any point against Atlanta.
03:26I mean, I just think you have a lot of people right now who are not true fans or New
03:34Yorkers who, we live in this social media era, they think that they can get famous by doing something that's
03:41beyond knucklehead, embarrassing, pathetic, atrocious, disgraceful.
03:46Should be in actual jail or sports jail behavior.
03:50Ben Stiller summed it up perfectly.
03:53Okay?
03:53Absolutely perfectly.
03:55I can appreciate being at a game where if you're wearing the opposing team's jersey, you know, you can have
04:03some verbal barbs and back and forth.
04:05And, you know, I'll say it in a PG way.
04:09Your team stinks.
04:10Your team's great.
04:11My team's awesome.
04:13Your team's not.
04:14Right?
04:14Just basic sports conversation.
04:16If you're throwing down on someone, if you're going to roundhouse, if you're drunk at a game, if you're out
04:23of your mind and you do this, this is not a New York situation.
04:28This is not a Knicks fan situation.
04:30That's the one thing I just, I gotta, I gotta call out.
04:34I mean, you want to go through history?
04:36You want to talk about San Francisco?
04:38You want to talk about Los Angeles?
04:40You want to talk about what's happened at some Giants-Dodgers games?
04:43You want to talk about Philadelphia?
04:45I mean, where do you want to go?
04:46There are plenty, you want to talk about Boston?
04:49You want to talk about any example of it?
04:51This is just a fan behavior kind of thing.
04:54And I'll take you a step further.
04:55I don't even think this is about Knicks fans.
05:00Because Steven Jackson's right.
05:02Knicks fans don't want to fight anybody.
05:05They want to win a championship.
05:07That's all Knicks fans care about.
05:09They're not leaving Madison Square Garden in order to watch party.
05:13Let me find some schmuck in a Tim Duncan jersey and let me beat the living hell out of him.
05:19That's not how a Knicks fan is wired here in the month of June with a chance to win a
05:24championship.
05:25Those people are not Knicks fans.
05:27Those people are losers.
05:29Those people are not worthy of society.
05:32Those people are not worthy of living in the greatest city in the world.
05:37New York City.
05:39Simple as that.
05:40So, and with that said, and this is interesting, in a move that surprised many, including me,
05:48the NYPD announced they're going to use the same security perimeter that was in place for Game 3
05:54when President Trump was in attendance.
05:56Mayor Maldani announced that there will indeed be a watch party outside the garden once again tonight,
06:02which had been shut down for Game 3 over security concerns.
06:06But that was not enough for some.
06:09Madison Square Garden released a statement calling the mayor and police commissioner Jessica Tish
06:17Party Poopers, saying in part, the last several victories the Knicks have had have been celebrated
06:25by thousands outside Madison Square Garden.
06:29The joy and the happiness palpable everywhere.
06:32Apparently, Mayor Maldani and police commissioner Tish, despite what they say,
06:37don't want to see these celebrations happen.
06:41We now know these restrictions were never about the president.
06:46Just a convenient excuse to restrict how, and where, and when, Knicks fans celebrate.
06:56So, the same shutdown will be in place in the same area around Madison Square Garden.
07:03The watch parties will be omnipresent, but not where they were for Game 1 and Game 2.
07:09So, it's a totally different situation here.
07:12And, obviously, you've got the mayor and the police commissioner and Madison Square Garden.
07:19Everyone is on different kind of wavelengths and pages here.
07:24So, this is a mess.
07:26I will be honest with you.
07:28I don't really care where the watch party is.
07:30I just want to make sure that everybody is safe and everybody is healthy and everybody has the ability to
07:37go out and, you know,
07:39have the ability to take care of business and watch the game and celebrate.
07:43So, listen, you know, when MSG is ripping the party poopers and ripping Mondani and Commissioner Tish for the Game
07:534 Street Lockdown,
07:55clearly, people are not on the same page.
07:57Look, I think you could have a watch party anywhere in Manhattan.
08:01I think these watch parties are terrific.
08:03Me?
08:04I'm going to be on my couch.
08:05I want to listen to Mike Breen.
08:07I want to watch with my wife and my kids.
08:10We've never seen a championship together.
08:12When it comes to one of my teams, I always want to make sure that I'm locked in and I
08:17hear and see the announcers
08:19and, you know, can sit there and focus on whatever I need to focus on as a diehard fan.
08:24But these watch parties, except for what happened after Game 3, have been wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
08:31The only group of people that I feel bad for with what's going on with the Game 4 Street Lockdown,
08:40the local business owners by Madison Square Garden, I feel bad for them.
08:45That bothers me because this should be a cash cow bonanza.
08:49So, obviously, that's going to be different for them.
08:52But, look, it's pretty crystal clear that, you know, the shutdown was not about President Trump.
09:00I thought for sure that was the case.
09:04And then you'd see those watch parties back.
09:07You wonder if the aforementioned violence and the Knicks fans, the Knicks fans, beating the hell out of the Spurs
09:19fans,
09:20if that impacted the situation here.
09:22So, just sucks that this has to be a topic for conversation, but it is.
09:28I would just be very careful, though, because you've got a lot of people.
09:32I'm very protective when it comes to defending New York, my city, and Knicks fans.
09:40Just don't paint with a broad brush.
09:42I'd just be very, very careful here.
09:47Don't paint with a broad brush.
