00:07the government through the Ministry of Health is seeking to put guardrails in place.
00:12Stemming from a meeting of Cabinet, Health Minister Dr. Lack Rambodo is urging TNT nationals to take extreme caution.
00:20Immediate action is necessary to protect our population and to prevent potential complications
00:26regarding future quarantine or repatriation efforts.
00:31The Ministry therefore strongly advises all nationals of Trinidad and Tobago
00:35to avoid all travel to the following countries due to an active outbreak of the Ebola,
00:42Bondibugio virus disease, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, South Sudan.
00:49Dr. Lack Rambodo highlights those areas as being high risk.
00:53In addition, people who decide to travel to Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic,
00:59Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia are being asked to exercise extreme caution.
01:08The government notes the classification of these areas as high risk for Ebola by the Centers for Disease Control.
01:15As it pertains to protecting the population, the health minister reveals steps that are being taken.
01:20Strict border management measures have been implemented.
01:25Citizens and residents arriving in Trinidad and Tobago who have visited or transited
01:31through the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda or South Sudan
01:35will be subject to enhanced health screening upon arrival.
01:39Furthermore, these individuals will be subject to mandatory 21-day active monitoring protocols.
01:46The results of the health screening will determine what happens after.
01:51Travelers may also be subject to immediate isolation or quarantine measures as directed by Port Health authorities.
01:58The Ministry of Health is asking people to cancel or postpone planned trips to the affected regions
02:04and to stay informed through official sources such as the Ministry and the WHO.
02:09But what about those who may have recently returned from a high-risk region and are symptomatic?
02:16Such as sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache or sore throat.
02:22Seek medical attention immediately and isolate yourself from others.
02:27Dr. Bodo says that the public will be kept updated as the situation develops.
