00:00I'm curious about your take on finance and tech bro culture, which they work at McKinsey,
00:06then they work at a startup, and more generally on the social and emotional lives of 21st century men.
00:13Are they okay?
00:15Well, I mean, I have to say I kind of, you know, a lot of what is talked about in
00:21this conversation about men,
00:22I don't recognize, or, you know, it seems so overblown, the things that I read.
00:29And, you know, I have a lot of male friendships that started when I was a schoolboy,
00:35and those are some of the most important relationships in my life, and I think that's the same for lots
00:39of men.
00:40And also, one of the reasons I wrote it this way was I thought a lot of the way that
00:45men are depicted now
00:46is, like, essentially emotionally stunted, you know, either kind of bro-ish culture,
00:52which is all about, like, hustle and success and, like, watches and getting really shredded.
00:59And I just thought, this doesn't correspond to the people who I know in real life.
01:04And I thought, we've all read and read enough books and seen enough movies about love affairs,
01:11but when we look at our own lives, the relationships we have with our friends are as important as almost
01:18anything else.
01:18And so I wanted to write about that.
