Avon and Somerset Police have launched a new campaign marking three decades since the disappearance of Melanie Hall in Bath. The appeal aims to prompt memories from the night she went missing and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
Transcript
00:00Avon and Somerset Police say Melanie Hall, who was 25, was last seen in the early hours of Sunday, 9th
00:07June 1996 at the former Cadillac's nightclub on Walcott Street during a busy night in the city as England played
00:14Switzerland in Euro 96 during one-all with Alan Shearer scoring.
00:18Her disappearance triggered one of the most significant unsolved murder investigations in the force's area, with officers now revisiting the
00:27case as part of a renewed appeal called the Justice for Melanie campaign.
00:38The 8th of June 1996 wasn't just another night out in Bath for Melanie Hall. This was the last night
00:44that she was singing live.
00:47Melanie went out with her partner. They went out for a nice barbecue with their friends and the evening went
00:53on and they ended up coming to Walcott Street, where we are today, where her boyfriend parked his car not
01:00far from where we're standing.
01:03Melanie went on into the club, which was Cadillac's nightclub.
01:09Melanie was last seen in the club. What we don't know is what happened to her next.
01:14What we're really trying to find is what actually happened to her on the 9th of June until she was
01:20sadly killed.
01:22I appreciate I'm asking people to think back 30 years, but think about what was happening in 96.
01:27It was the rise of new labour. It was a summer's evening.
01:32The Spice Girls were in the charts. Oasis had just sold out in Nebworth. It was a summer of hope.
01:38So this is not just another appeal. I'm really interested in anyone who was out around Cadillac's nightclub, in Cadillac's
01:46nightclub or Bath that evening and maybe saw somebody that with the passage of time,
01:51the fact that they were in that location could be important. So please come forward, speak to us, give us
01:58that information and let us decide whether they are relevant or not to the investigation.
02:04Melanie's remains were found in 2009 on the side of the M5 slip road at Junction 14 near Thornbury.
02:10Does that location mean something to somebody? Do you know someone who travelled northbound? It may not have been on
02:16the night of the 8th into the 9th of June.
02:18It may have been very soon thereafter, but were you driving past? Did you see a car parked there? Did
02:24you see anything suspicious?
02:25If you did, then that's the sort of information that we need people to tell us about and then let
02:29us decide if that person's relevant to the investigation.
02:33We're as committed now to solving this as we were 30 years ago. It's never been filed. It's a live
02:39investigation. We're dedicated to solving this for Melanie and for her family.
02:43The campaign, launched to mark 30 years since she was last seen, is designed by Avon and Somerset Police to
02:48prompt memories from 1996, encouraging anyone who was in Bath that night or who may have information to come forward
02:56with even the smallest detail.
