00:02The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered Datin Seri Rosma Mansour to pay more than 67 million ringgit to a
00:08Lebanon-based jeweller over the loss of 43 pieces of luxury jewellery that were never returned.
00:14The suit was filed in March 2023 by Global Royalty Trading, which alleged that Rosma had falsely claimed the jewellery,
00:21including diamond necklaces, bracelets and tiaras, had been seized by Malaysian authorities under anti-money laundering laws.
00:27The company maintained that only one of the 44 pieces was retained by police.
00:33The remaining 43 were unaccounted for.
00:36Judge Datuk Kwe Choo Soon, ruling via Zoom on Wednesday, found that Rosma had failed to discharge her obligations as
00:42a bailey, the person entrusted with the goods.
00:45The court held that the non-return of the jewellery constitutes prima facie evidence of negligence.
00:51The judge rejected Rosma's defence, which pointed to a police raid and the possibility of seizure.
00:56Justice Kwe ruled that Rosma had to affirmatively prove what happened to the jewellery and that she failed to do
01:02so.
01:03Attempts to shift blame onto speculative explanations were deemed untenable by the court.
01:08Rosma was ordered to pay exactly 67,461,027 ringgit and 37 sen along with interest at 5% per
01:17annum until full settlement.
01:18The court also ordered her to pay costs of 75,000 ringgit each to global royalty and to the third
01:26parties, the inspector general of police and the Malaysian government.
01:30Her bid for an indemnity against those third parties was dismissed.
01:34The wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak now has one month to comply with the court's order.
01:43She suggested she's advice for her to the court following.
01:45And the court will do the court for auditing and as simple재 Dickazaan.
