00:01The High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday granted Datin Seri Rosmar Mansour a conditional
00:07stay of a 67.5 million ringgit judgement in favour of Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty
00:14Trading S.A.L. over 43 pieces of jewellery that were not returned.
00:20Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani ordered Rosmar to deposit the judgement
00:25sum into a joint stakeholders account held by the party's solicitors within one month.
00:32She said the conditional stay struck a balance between both parties' rights by protecting
00:37the jeweller's successful claim while preserving Rosmar's right to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
00:43On June 10, the High Court ordered Rosmar to pay about 67.5 million ringgit after finding
00:49her liable for 43 pieces of jewellery that had been delivered to her for viewing but
00:55were not returned.
00:57Global Royalty filed the suit in May 2023 claiming 44 pieces of jewellery sent to Rosmar under
01:04a consignment arrangement had gone missing.
01:08The jeweller said only one piece had been retained by police.
01:12Justice Khoai Choo Soon, who heard the original suit, found that the 43 pieces remained the
01:17jeweller's property as Rosmar had not purchased them.
01:20He said she was responsible for accounting for the jewellery while it was in her custody.
01:26Rosmar had claimed the jewellery was moved from the Prime Minister's official residence
01:30at Sri Perdana to a unit at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur where it was subsequently seized by police
01:35during a raid on May 17, 2018.
01:39The Court allowed Global Royalty's claim and ordered Rosmar to pay the judgement sum within
01:44one month along with 75,000 ringgit in costs to both the plaintiff and third parties.
01:52Rosmar filed an appeal on June 12, which is pending.
