JOHOR BARU: The 10-year-old boy who survived a fall from a 24-storey apartment block in Tampoi on Sunday underwent surgery today.

He remains in critical condition at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital intensive care unit.

The siblings fell from the 12th floor of the apartment block, and were found near the apartment's swimming pool area.

The girl, identified only as Putri, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her brother Irfan sustained severe injuries.

Their mother, 37, an Indonesian, was arrested the same day.

Police obtained a four-day remand order against her to facilitate investigations into alleged child neglect, abuse, abandonment or exposure under the Child Act 2001.

Their father, when contacted, said he was currently fully occupied at the hospital, attending to Irfan.

"I am about to send my child to the operating theatre," he said.

Meanwhile, a school administration officer from Kampung Melayu Majidee who knew the siblings described the deceased as a cheerful and active student, in contrast with her quieter brother.

"She was very close to her brother. We were informed that she showed no behavioural changes and appeared as cheerful as usual before the tragedy," the administrator said.

The administrator, who spoke on condition of anonymity said Putri was laid to rest at the Impian Emas Muslim cemetery yesterday.

Viral videos of the siblings lying on ground on the day of the incident went viral today.

Police had urged members of the public to remove the viral videos, and stop circulating on social media platforms, citing sensitivity and respect for the grieving family.
