TEMERLOH: A woman and her 12-year-old son were killed after a fuel tanker carrying about 32,000 litres of petrol and diesel overturned and landed on their car along Jalan Temerloh-Triang near Kampung Lebak here today.
The victims were identified as Nur Fatima Abdullah, 39, and Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal Saifulnizam, 12.
Temerloh police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron said the mother and son were travelling from Jerantut to Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, when the accident occurred at about 4pm.
He said the tanker, travelling from Bera to Temerloh, lost control before overturning and landing on the car.
"The crash caused both vehicles to catch fire and the mother and son were killed.
"Although the victims' family members have given statements to police, the identities of both victims will be confirmed through DNA comparisons with their relatives," he said in a statement. Nasyim said the 37-year-old tanker driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The bodies were sent to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital here for further action.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the department received a report about the accident at 4.08pm.
He said 11 personnel from the Bukit Angin and Temerloh fire and rescue stations were dispatched to the scene.
"When they arrived, both vehicles were on fire and firefighters took more than 2 hours to put out the blaze," he said.
