00:00The United Nations does not accept Israel's closure of crossings into Gaza,
00:05warning that civilians depend on a steady flow of humanitarian aid and commercial goods for survival.
00:11UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq says Israeli authorities closed the Karam Shalom, Karam Abu Salem crossing,
00:19the only cargo crossing into Gaza that had been operational over the past two weeks,
00:24as well as the Rafah crossing following recent missile attacks toward Israel.
00:31Ocha reports that following missile attacks towards Israel since last night,
00:35the Israeli authorities closed the Karam Shalom, Karam Abu Salem crossing today,
00:39which has been the only crossing into Gaza that had been operational for cargo over the past two weeks.
00:45However, humanitarians were allowed to collect cargo from the Palestinian side of the crossing.
00:50Israeli authorities also closed Rafah crossing.
00:53Ocha stressed that people in the Gaza Strip rely on a steady flow of humanitarian and commercial goods from outside.
01:01The UN and our humanitarian partners work hard to maintain a sustained and predictable flow of supplies despite restrictions.
01:08Such efforts cannot be sustained if crossings remain closed.
01:11Against this backdrop, civilians and civilian infrastructure continue to be exposed to Israeli airstrikes,
01:18shelling and gunfire, resulting in reported casualties and damage.
01:22Under international humanitarian law, civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected.
01:27We do not believe that the crossing points into Gaza should be closed.
01:32The survival of the people of Gaza is dependent on a flow of humanitarian aid being available at all times.
01:42We want the previous system of normal humanitarian traffic, normal commercial traffic to be restored.
01:51And so we do not accept any of these closures.
