Birmingham is often described as one of Europe’s youngest major cities, with around thirty-six per cent of residents aged under twenty-five. But local figures show almost one in ten sixteen to twenty-four-year-olds are not in education, employment or training, raising questions about whether young people are getting the chances they need.

00:00I mean, off the top of my head I couldn't tell you anything about that, to be honest,
00:05and I think that kind of says a little bit, doesn't it, if I'm not, I'm probably part
00:10of that generation, well I am part of that generation, and I haven't heard anything
00:13of it, so I guess that's an element to it, I mean there probably is stuff out there,
00:17I'm just probably not educated on that.
00:19Well basically there's not a lot of opportunities for the kids, as you know yourself, you know,
00:24kids are running around acting like crazy, you know how it is in Birmingham, but it is
00:31a lovely place.
00:31Yeah, so look, I moved to Birmingham about three years ago, I think there's really good opportunities
00:36in Birmingham, you know, obviously there's challenges outside London, you know, anywhere
00:39outside of London, the regional areas, there's challenges, but I think Birmingham's really
00:44good the last few years.
00:45I don't think there's enough, I think there is some, I think there could definitely be
00:50more, I'm someone who's in the performing arts, so, and I don't feel with that sector
00:54that I know about, that there's, there is enough opportunities to go to a local dance
00:59or singing or acting class.
01:02A lot of my friends when I come back home, because potentially they didn't have enough
01:07career advice here in Birmingham, they now are a bit stuck of what to do, luckily I've
01:13had, I'm very fortunate, I've had very supporting parents that have kind of pushed me into the
01:16right path and I've followed what I want to do.
01:18There were a lot more clubs and youth initiatives when I was much younger than I am now, and
01:25I don't see evidence of any of that going on at the moment.
