00:00Cleveland Browns quarterback situation is one that we loosely got into,
00:03but there are odds around who's going to be their week one starting quarterback.
00:07Watson, the favorite Sanders, not far behind Dylan Gabriel and Talon green are posted.
00:13They certainly don't seem to be in contention.
00:16Do you have any strong feelings on who the Browns should be,
00:22you know, looking to be their lead man to open the season?
00:27Who should be their lead man or who will be their lead man?
00:30You know, this reminds me of a question you asked me when we were talking about the Cardinals
00:33and their running back room of who's going to be the number one running back
00:36and who's going to take the first carry for the Arizona Cardinals.
00:41You know, I think it's going to be James Conner taking the first carry for the Arizona Cardinals
00:44because I think that's what they're going to do.
00:45It doesn't mean he's their best running back.
00:47For the Browns, a part of me thinks that they're going to start Deshaun Watson
00:52because they want to and be like, oh, well, we traded for him.
00:56We have the money invested in him.
00:58And we're going to start him because he's the veteran quarterback.
01:01And that's what we're going to do.
01:02Does that mean that's the right answer?
01:03That's a part of me thinks that's just what they're going to do.
01:05And looking at their schedule, I'm trying to figure out if Sanders doesn't start week one,
01:11when would he start and how quickly would that change happen?
01:14They're at Jacksonville, at Tampa, at home versus Carolina.
01:18Then they play at home versus Pittsburgh on a Thursday night.
01:21If they are 1-3 or 0-4 the Thursday night, they have the mini bye week going into week
01:27five.
01:27That's when I think Sanders would be starting if he's not starting week one,
01:31which I think he ultimately should be because Deshaun Watson is not the future.
01:34Even if Sanders struggles in the entirety of the season and he's quote-unquote bad,
01:39you need to go through the process of having a young quarterback struggle to see what you truly have in
01:44him.
01:45Yeah, so Tom, I agree about giving the job to Sanders.
01:50The Watson stuff actually, Watson off-field, okay, suggests that maybe he shouldn't be in this league,
01:58but I'm not even talking about that in this moment.
02:03The notion of Deshaun Watson starting for the Browns bothers me because of how stupid it is.
02:09You know, you don't want to use those words all the time, but guys, it is an unacceptable decision
02:16if we are being logical as the Cleveland Browns.
02:18If I am in that room, Watson cannot start any games.
02:23If you are the Browns and I give you right now, hey, you pick first overall or are a wildcard
02:35team,
02:37they'd pick first overall.
02:39That's what they would pick.
02:42There's not a lot of teams who would, to be very, very clear about that, okay?
02:46Like, I don't even think the Jets would.
02:49I think they'd look to snap a playoff drought and get themselves in the mix, and why not us, okay?
02:55The Browns are, like, it is at this point reported enamored with Arch Manning.
03:02We don't even know if Arch is going to, one, be the best quarterback in that class, and, two, come
03:06out,
03:06but that doesn't matter.
03:08They want Arch, and their accruing of first-round draft capital is to get Arch Manning, okay?
03:17Like, or a quarterback at the minimum.
03:22So Watson being better is actually less in his favor.
03:27Less, okay?
03:30The only world, though, where you don't draft quarterback next year is one of the young guys broke out.
03:39And if so, hey, that's a happy accident, right?
03:44In the world where Watson carries you to a 10-win season, that is a full disaster.
03:49What, are you going to run it back with Watson?
03:52No, you're not.
03:53No, you're not.
03:54You're not doing that.
03:55So, give Shador the job, and if he struggles, Dylan Gabriel, who you spent, like, a third-round pick on,
04:02give him the job.
04:03And if they both struggle, then let Talon Green run wild.
04:07Like, to me, Tom, this is, Watson should be dead last on this death chart.
04:14It really should be, and I keep imagining a world where, what if Arch Manning, like, didn't exist?
04:21Like, what happens if there was no strong quarterback?
04:23They weren't positioning themselves to try and get him.
04:25You have a young running back in Quinshawn Judkins.
04:28You have a tight end in Harold Tannen, who I think is pretty darn good.
04:31You drafted a wide receiver in Casey Connexion.
04:34Wouldn't you want the quarterback who presumably would grow with them all?
04:38Wouldn't you want them getting as many reps as possible?
04:40Win or lose, make the playoff, be terrible, have two wins.
04:43Wouldn't you want them all growing together at the same time and then see what you have, you know, in
04:48the totality of your offense?
04:49That's what it should be.
