00:02I thought it looked amazing. I mean, I like to be surprised, you know, by artists, and it's always been
00:09the case with years of culture. I don't want to have any input. I really want to let the artist
00:14work its magic. And, yeah, I thought it was an amazing collaboration.
00:19Qatari artist Gada Al-Sawedi is bringing her signature style to Formula One with a custom helmet design for Alpine
00:26driver Pierre Gasly.
00:28As part of the 2026 Year of Culture partnership between Qatar, Canada, and Mexico, Al-Sawedi was invited to design
00:36a custom helmet for Gasly at Formula One's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
00:42The design combines Canadian symbols including the moose and maple leaf with Qatar's national animal, the oryx.
00:48It's bridging between two cultures that are so different, but you still can find similarities between them.
00:56For an artist better known for murals and illustrations, a Formula One helmet was unfamiliar territory, but one detail of
01:04the finished design stood out to Gasly immediately.
01:08My belief is, to me, very Canadian, but I thought the oryx and the moose horn on the other side
01:19gave like a very aggressive look to the helmet, which, you know, I'm kind of like an aggressive driver in
01:25my style of driving, so I was really, really happy to rock that design on track.
01:30The collaboration spans three countries, a Qatari artist, a French Formula One driver, and a race in Canada.
01:38I find it amazing to give the opportunity to some artists that may not have, you know, a global exposure
01:45to actually express themselves through sport.
01:47I think art is a universal language. You don't need any translation to understand it. Everyone will be interpreting it
01:54in a different way.
01:55So I think it's actually a really amazing medium to communicate with other cultures.
02:00From a studio in Qatar to the Formula One grid in Montreal, Al-Sawadi's work has found an unexpected platform,
02:08one of the world's most watched sports.
