00:00The voices wondering why President Trump is letting peace negotiations drag on without
00:04bagging the ceasefire and striking Iran are growing louder. The Post's White House reporter
00:10Emily Gooden has some great details on the process that help explain the delay.
00:14Now, what we're hearing from sources is that President Trump thinks this deal is still possible
00:20and he is going to hold off on taking any military action as long as he thinks this
00:25peace option is on the table. There are some concerns that Iran thinks it may have an advantage
00:33here trying to hold out against the U.S. high gas prices, but the administration points out it's
00:39actually Iran in trouble. Their economy has completely sunk with this embargo on the Straits
00:46of Hormuz. Food prices are a huge increase in Tehran and across Iran. So the administration
00:55believes time is on their side. And right now, that's what they're doing. They're waiting it out.
01:01I'll also point out just the difficult logistics of trying to make a peace deal with Iran.
01:06Iran's leadership is actually in hiding in rural parts of the country. And in order to communicate
01:11with them, a courier literally has to take the paper, drive it to the hideout, let them read it,
01:18get their feedback, drive it back, and then submit it through the Pakistanis to the United States.
01:23So just that process takes two or three days. So you can imagine the back and forth that's going
01:28again and again across Iran and to Pakistan, back to the U.S. and around the world again.
01:33But regardless of the reason for the delay, the war is starting to wear on Congress.
01:38Four Republican lawmakers in the House joined Democrats to pass a war powers resolution,
01:43instructing the president to end action against Iran or get congressional approval for war.
01:49That now heads to the Senate. But the House vote was enough to get under the president's skin.
01:55He posted, quote,
01:56The Democrats are fueled by Trump derangement syndrome. They would rather have our country
02:00fail than give me another of many victories. The four Republicans, that's a whole other story.
02:06They're grandstanders. They should be ashamed of themselves. MAGA.
02:11Remember when embattled Maine Senate hopeful Graham Plattner said there were no more scandals coming?
02:17Yeah, not so much. Several women have now come forward painting Plattner as a woman hater
02:23who once twisted an ex-girlfriend's arm and fantasized about killing people and raping
02:29intruders. Oh, and remember when he said he didn't know his Nazi tattoo was a Nazi tattoo?
02:36One woman says he knew very well what it was, calling it, quote,
02:39My Totenkopf, a term used to describe a certain Nazi insignia. Three of Plattner's ex-girlfriends
02:47recounted their troubling time dating the Marine veteran to the New York Times,
02:50with the women describing him as someone who hated women, referring to them as hatchet wounds.
02:56The woman who says he twisted her arm is 40-year-old Lindsay Fiefield. Plattner refuted
03:03her claim, calling her a lifelong GOP operative. I've been stabbed. Those were the final words of
03:11high school football star Austin Metcalf as he lay dying in the arms of his twin brother.
03:16The alleged murderer Carmelo Anthony was nabbed for the crime and apparently told the arresting
03:22officer, I'm not alleged, I did it. These details were revealed in the prosecution's opening
03:28arguments of Anthony's murder trial on Thursday. The suspect's lawyers have said their client was
03:34acting in self-defense, but prosecutors say Anthony ditched the murder weapon while fleeing the scene.
03:40They posed the question to the jury, quote, If you're scared and running away in self-defense,
03:45why toss the knife? The defense has also cast this as a case of a white bully intimidating a black
03:51kid.
03:52Race is not only a factor in the legal arguments of the case, but also in the jury box.
03:5712 jurors and six alternates are hearing the arguments of the case, but none of the 18 are
04:03black. Is that grounds for an appeal if things don't break the defense's way? We will see.
