00:00Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has published an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin
00:06proposing direct talks aimed at bringing the war to an end.
00:10In the letter, Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine is prepared to continue fighting
00:14if negotiations fail to produce an agreement to stop the conflict.
00:19He argued that many Russians have grown increasingly wary of Ukrainian missile and drone attacks,
00:25rising inflation and persistent fuel shortages.
00:28He also said it would be unwise to wait for the conflict in Europe to regain Washington's full attention
00:34while the U.S. remains focused on Iran.
00:37In Moscow, the Kremlin confirmed it had received the letter and said Putin would be briefed on its contents.
00:42The letter was published just hours after Putin reiterated his hardline stance
00:47and claimed Russian forces were continuing to make daily gains on the battlefield.
00:52However, Putin said peace proposals put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump
00:57could help end the conflict if Ukraine is willing to compromise.
01:00When asked whether a ceasefire should come before negotiations,
01:04Putin said peace talks do not require fighting to stop in advance.
