00:00G'day guys we're on a four-month adventure camping and exploring some of
00:04the most remote and wildest parts of Australia while living from the land and
00:08sea. In today's episode we've set up camp on this deserted tropical island and
00:14are in search of a giant lobster but we come across something that blows our
00:19minds. Giant lobster! Look at where we are guys, a tropical little island all for ourselves.
00:26Yeah guys for those following along it's been two months now traveling up the
00:30East Coast and we've been hampered by rough weather and winds but today we've
00:35finally got the chance to come out to some clear water and we're gonna get the
00:38chance to do one of our favorite things, go spearfishing hey? Yeah and I've got in mind a nice juicy
00:44lobster today.
00:44Yeah new species of fish and big juicy lobsters are on the menu so let's go get them.
00:51What is it Jack? It's a big tawny nurse shark. You're jumping in there? Yeah.

01:33doubt it's got to be one of the most
01:34beautiful bays on the East Coast. We're gonna make the most of the nice weather and head off
01:39and explore elsewhere around the island. Yeah I just flew the drone and the islands on
01:43the other side look amazing. Let's go check them out.

02:23Someone had crayfish and left the aluminum foil. That's not cool. Look at that. Very interesting
02:30spot. Looks like it was a finger mark or a mangrove death. Someone had a big fire here and
02:36left the rubbish. Very sad. I'm gonna come pick it up later on the way back.
02:44I just spotted a slide and it looks like it was a turtle. Went up, tried to nest and went
02:52back.
03:00The water is so clear though.
03:06Yeah, what did you see friend?
03:07There's a little bit of a campsite, maybe from fishermen and they left it very pig style.

03:16Yeah, there's a crayfish which is a good sign. We might find one later. But it's left with all the
03:24aluminum foil around it and then there's beer cans everywhere. And then there's a finger mark
03:30called mangrove jack head that it's hanging off the tree.
03:33Yeah, but there's rubbish left everywhere. Yeah.
03:36Oh, it's a shame leaving rubbish in a beautiful place like this.
03:38The tide's dropped now and it's revealed this huge big sandbar that almost runs between these two islands here.
03:45Fran's really keen to catch something big on the line so she's gonna go for a bit of explore and
03:49throw a pop-up.
03:50And I'm gonna see if I can spot anything on the drone pointer in the right direction.

04:36It seems around every headland you look on the drone there's another like postcard perfect white sandy beach with a
04:43couple of palm trees on it and no one else here.
04:46It's so amazing to have a place like this all to ourself.

04:51So just in this bay here there's a big school of bait fish and there's birds diving on, I'm picking
04:56them off.
04:57And then there's some bigger shadows like chasing through them and splashing them everywhere.
05:01I think they might be GTs but in around the rocks there might even be some like cod or trout
05:07chasing them as well.
05:08All the fish are having to feed at the moment so Fran's actually grabbed the rod and she's gonna go
05:13up and try her like casting a popper there.

06:27oh spotted on the drone down in this end of the bay here there's some huge big boulders like great
06:35big bombies and these are the exact type of coral that the giant crayfish has loved because whole
06:40coral is almost hollow on the inside these are great hiding spots for the crayfish they just love
06:45it in there so we're gonna put a mask and snorkel on swim out and see if we can find
06:50any big craze out

07:29He's got a really deep hole, I don't know whether to shoot him or try grabbing him.
07:32So here at Queensland it's legal to shoot crayfish, as long as you make sure they got

13:25well super comfy so we've cut this giant lobster in half sliced some garlic and some butter to put
13:32on top and then we'll cook him straight on the open fire but unfortunately the other camera we
13:38filmed that on was later lost to the ocean but hey that's just one of the challenges of these long
13:44remote filming trips we will have you know it was delicious
13:56today's a bit of an exciting one so we've had a mate travel up the coast here
13:59and he found something super interesting in the shallow waters just off the island here
14:03and needless to say we are super keen to check it out we'll tell you a little bit more about

14:08if we find it we've never seen something like this before but fingers crossed we find it we're going
14:12to make a whole day out of it going out there and exploring around the reefs and hopefully
14:16catch something yeah hopefully it's going to be fun guys
14:23yeah we're going to be very careful where we drop the anchor here because the guys reckon they have
14:28found a bomb which is crazy i have never seen an underwater bomb so let's go check it out

16:20So we're trying for a new species today.
16:22There's one notable omission so far of our reef species, the black spot tuskfish.
16:27A lot of people reckon they're one of the best eating fish in the country and we haven't
16:31got one yet.
16:32This is the area they like, up in the shallow kind of lagoon-y, rubbly bottom.
16:37So when we jump in, I think black spot tusky will be number one on the target list today.
17:11So we're going to make sure that they're one of the best eating fish in the country.

18:19A couple of tasty little treats for lunch, the black spot tuskfish, which we hadn't
18:23got yet.
18:24It's a painted grey, going to be a beautiful little lunch combo.
18:29So that mine that we saw underwater, what I reckon that is, that's from the World War
18:34II.
18:35Australia put down a heap of these mines to stop Japanese submarines coming in.
18:40And they worked quite efficiently, but at the end of the war, one of the Australian Navy
18:45boats was sent out to basically pack up all the mines.
18:50As he was doing so, he ran over one of his own mines and blew himself up.
18:55Unfortunately, that boat sunk and a few people died on board, but that wreck, we've actually
18:59dove that.
19:00It's quite an eerie wreck.
19:01You can see the hole has been blown out of the side of the boat.
19:05And after that boat sunk, there was a number of other mines that had been left undetonated
19:10and unpacked up.
19:11So in these remote waters of North Queensland, there's a chance that there's still live mines,
19:17underwater mines, kind of scattered along the coast.
19:21Now's this beautiful little spot here.
19:24That wind's just starting to pick up a little bit behind us, so we've come back into the
19:28islands.
19:29And while that sun's overhead and the water's so nice and clear, we're just going to putt
19:34around these islands and see if there's any bigger animals so we can find, like, there's
19:38actually a chance of crocodiles here.
19:40We've seen a couple of crocodile slides, so we'll be looking for them, as well as things
19:44like eagle rays or turtles or dolphins.
19:47So Fran's just about to put the drone in the air and then we'll start putting along.
19:52Our beach doesn't have much fire, but we're going to have a look here to find that.

20:11It's just the most amazing aqua turquoise to be in on the mangroves like this.

20:25So we spotted a heap of trucks, little trucks, going from the back there towards the water.
20:33So we think they're little turtles, they're hot and went to the water, not long ago.

20:53We're going to have some pretty fresh seafood here.
20:55It's interesting when you're on these trips and you're relying on seafood like purely to
21:00eat rather than to show off your catch or anything.
21:03A fish like that, like we wouldn't normally shoot a tusky that size.
21:05But really that's like one side for me, one side for Fran.
21:09That's all we need with a bit of a crayfish entree.
21:13And dinner is sorted already.

21:59I feel like that sun has zapped the energy out of us.
22:01We're going to have a bite to eat, maybe coconut, recharge the batteries.
22:05And then looking forward to whatever the afternoon's got in hold for us.
22:10So we've come right up in the clear waters of the shallows here over this reef.
22:16And we're just kind of looking for shadows.
22:18This is areas where we've seen like tiger sharks hunting in the shallows.
22:23They come up on top, hunting the turtles.
22:25Oh, there's a turtle.
22:27That's the exact thing the tiger sharks are after.
22:29So we're just sort of seeing what we can find.
22:32Fran's got a keen eye out looking for trevally or things like that that also hunt in the
22:37shallows here.
22:37So pretty cool place to catch a fish.
22:43This is a pretty amazing sand cave that's straight off the sand.
22:46It just drops down into deep water.
22:49So we're going to go ashore and see if we can catch a big fish from the little sand cave.

25:35you've seen it before but we're gonna do a lobster pesto pasta because
25:39jack is craving it but instead of chopping the crayfish and cooking in the pan we are in a bit
25:46of a rush i'm feeling lazy so we're gonna put it straight on the fire and then pull the meat

26:18what's going on here friend we had our swag for a few years now and i think we have over

26:25it's falling apart this is the third one that we've got what's going on behind the closed swag

26:40actually on the first great adventure he broke it on the first day it's too strong too strong
26:47check out that sunset might sound like someone's trying to steal our boat but we're just um

27:19how are you looking it's gonna be nice and smoked so ingredients for tonight are gonna be crayfish
27:26or lobster main ingredient and then potato cut in cubes we got any pasta pesto garlic lemon and olive oil
27:41oh yum looks medium rare but we can work with that there's a lot of meat here yum yum
