00:00From an Indiana man who watched this twister from across the street, and a tornado in Nebraska
00:05that reduced this factory to shreds, to a Canadian boy who loves storm chasing with
00:10his dad, and an EF3 tornado in Uruguay that nearly wiped out this town, here are the
00:17scariest tornado videos from up close.
00:28Dolores, Uruguay is a small city in the Soriano department.
00:32It's home to roughly 20,000 people living along the Rio San Salvador.
00:37Unfortunately, this puts them inside South America's Tornado Corridor, which sees the
00:43second most tornadic activity on Earth, other than Tornado Alley USA.
00:47On April 15th of 2016, a powerful EF3 twister spun up over Dolores.
00:54While most people ran for cover, these brave locals stood their ground to film as much as
00:59they could.
01:20Five people were injured and five lost their lives.
01:24According to the National Weather Service, the twister formed west of Dolores and strengthened
01:29to EF3 intensity as it entered the city limits.
01:33Despite being in the middle of South America's tornado corridor, storms like these are considered
01:38rare in Dolores.
01:39The last twister to strike was a weaker storm in December of 2012 that some folks hadn't
01:46yet recovered from when the 2016 storm tore through the same area.
01:54Didsbury, Canada is a small town in central Alberta, roughly 50 miles north of Calgary.
02:00It's home to just over 5,000 people, including this brave father-son duo.
02:05On July 1st of 2023, a powerful thunderstorm spawned southwest of Didsbury.
02:11An emergency alert went out, warning the locals of possible tornadoes.
02:16While most people sought shelter, this father-son storm-chasing team drove straight toward the action.
02:22They arrived just in time to watch what quickly became a destructive EF4 tornado.
02:30Yeah.
02:30Uh.
02:31That's done.
02:33That's done.
02:34Yeah.
02:35We're going to have to move pretty quick here.
02:38Yeah, that's a, that's, that's, I think that's going to be a tornado.
02:41It already is a tornado.
02:43It's definitely a tornado.
02:44It's definitely a tornado.
03:03Oh, this is, it's so exciting.
03:08Breeze.
03:10You can see, you can see all that, just leave them all over the way.
03:14Unreal.
03:18It is real.
03:20You can see it.
03:22Right?
03:23The big doctor started.
03:26Oh, no.
03:27Oh, yeah.
03:27There's stuff flying around in it.
03:30Oh, no.
03:31It hit something.
03:33Our storm-chasing father was right to assume the worst.
03:37As the twister tracked eastward, it slammed into multiple properties along Township Road.
03:43Several trees and farm buildings were destroyed, and trees were snapped in half like toothpicks.
03:49It would only get crazier from there.
03:54Oh, I hope nobody's getting hurt.
03:58There's a lot of stuff flying around in it.
04:20It's getting huge.
04:23It's getting absolutely huge.
04:27Oh, it looks like it's hitting white, white, whitey-ass house.
04:32Oh, no.
04:37Oh, big hailstone just landed right next to us.
04:40I'm going to zoom out.
04:44Oh, my goodness.
04:48Oh, I think it's going to miss that house, but...
04:56Oh, it is just getting bigger and bigger and louder.
05:05Here.
05:06Oh, there's big hail coming down.
05:25Nothing ruins a father-son bonding experience quite like golf ball-sized hail.
05:31The duo quickly jumped into their car and tried to drive ahead of the storm.
05:35When they finally arrived at a safe location, the little boy decided it was his turn to film the twister.
05:41He also took the opportunity to teach us a thing or two about tornado safety.
05:45Tornado has been going on for like a solid five or ten minutes.
05:52At least five minutes.
05:57This is insane.
06:01This is why you want to stay far from tornadoes.
06:08They can be cool, but they can also be deadly.
06:15Show them how big they are.
06:19Dad, can you bring that hailstone over here so we can see?
06:22Look at that.
06:23Look at that hailstone.
06:26That's almost tennis ball size.
06:29The team relocated once more when the hail caught up with them.
06:32This time, Dad decided to get them as close as possible to give his son a once-in-a-lifetime
06:37experience.
06:39Oh, please.
06:44Look at this.
06:46Bees.
06:47I am fully zoomed out.
06:56I love this.
07:00Canadian weather experts quickly rated this storm an EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
07:05Wind speeds peaked around 170 miles per hour, and the storm itself traced a nine-mile scar between Range Road
07:1323 and Queen Elizabeth Highway.
07:16According to reports, twelve homes were damaged, three were destroyed, and four were considered uninhabitable after the storm.
07:24It was the strongest twister to hit Alberta since the Black Friday twister of 1987 that claimed the lives of
07:3127 people.
07:35On Friday, April 26th of 2024, a powerful EF3 twister passed through Lincoln, Nebraska, as part of a broader outbreak
07:45between Thursday the 25th and Sunday the 28th.
07:48In the parking lot of Garner Industries Manufacturing Plant, an employee's dash cam recorded the storm as it approached the
07:55building, putting all 70 people inside at risk.
07:59Based on what happens next, it's a miracle that they all made it out in one piece.

08:43The storm flattened the 115,000 square foot facility in less than 20 seconds. Those inside
08:51didn't have time to run and instead decided to shelter in place. While they all escaped the
08:57disaster, many had to deal with physical injuries. There's nothing like a beer at your favorite pub
09:04when your hometown is under a tornado warning. Tommy Vison of South Bend, Indiana wasn't about
09:09to let bad weather keep him from Second Base Sports Bar on Ironwood Drive. But just as he was
09:15about to head inside, a rare, low-topped supercell tornado touched down behind the CVS across the
09:21street. Tommy's bar stool would have to wait. This was better than an ice-cold beer.
09:51Surveys from the National Weather Service determined that the storm was on the ground for 10 minutes,
09:56No Alley, USA. The conditions spawned severe thunderstorms over central and eastern Nebraska,
10:02some producing hail the size of tennis balls. In Pilger, Nebraska, a small village southwest of
10:08Sioux City, twin EF-4 twisters touched down around 4 p.m. These daredevil storm chasers knew the
10:15Pilger twins were among the rarest things they'd ever see. They'd gladly risk their lives for some
10:22up-close-and-personal footage with one of them. Do you hear it? Get past these mountains. Get past these
10:40mountains. Pass the hills, bounce.
10:56Pass the hills, bounce.
10:59Pass the hills through their Heb. No, the sun Jaqueda. That's not good. No, it's not good.
11:29We believe the storm chasers in this video are sitting on State Route 275 looking southwest
11:35towards Pilger.
11:37In this 2012 Google Maps image, you can see the same water tower and silos in the distance.
11:43According to the National Weather Service, the main storm in this clip, and the first
11:47one of the twins to touch down, was a long-track 18-mile twister with a peak width of roughly
11:54500 yards.
11:55It slammed into town after spawning about two miles southeast.
12:00All the debris you see in this clip are bits and pieces of Pilger flying in every direction.
12:05When it was finally over, roughly 75% of the village was destroyed or heavily damaged.
12:12Two people lost their lives, and 20 more were hospitalized with various injuries.
12:20Puerto Varas, also known as the City of Roses, is a large city in southern Chile.
12:26It's a popular tourist destination famous for its German traditions and proximity to the
12:31Andes Mountains.
12:32Those very mountains are why tornadoes are extremely rare in Chile.
12:36But that doesn't mean that they can't happen.
12:39On May 25th of 2025, a rare twister touched down in Puerto Varas, catching this local cameraman,
12:46along with everybody else, off guard.

14:05Despite being a weaker EF1 tornado, the storm damaged over 250 homes and knocked down
14:12hundreds of trees and power lines. Dozens of cars were flipped onto their roofs. Shattered glass
14:19littered the streets and rooftops were peeled off buildings like can openers. Wind speeds peaked
14:25around 110 miles per hour, according to some reports. And while that sounds like nothing
14:30compared to American tornadoes, it is catastrophic in a city that isn't prepared to withstand such
14:37raw power.
14:41It was New Year's Day of 2010. A Russian couple was out for a casual afternoon drive when
14:47the weather began to turn. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first. People were out
14:52and about and clear blue skies spanned the horizon. That's when a tornado seemingly tore through
14:59out of nowhere, and our Russian couple found themselves in the middle of it.
15:11We weren't able to find much online about this specific storm. It's unclear how strong
15:17it was, and we don't know how much damage it actually caused. In general, Russian tornadoes
15:22are typically weak and short-lived. The whole country only sees between 100 and 300 each
15:28year. Of them, less than 50 are ever classified as severe.
