00:00In which way came out the idea of making a POV movie, a point of view movie, with a protagonist,
00:10a dog?
00:11I think everyone who's had a dog has wondered why the dog might bark in the middle of the night
00:16or might just stare into an empty corner.
00:18And I think we as people can't help but imagine the worst.
00:22So I wanted to kind of imagine what would it be like for a dog who's the main character of
00:26the film to enter a haunted house,
00:28to have his unique canine senses. How could that unfold, you know, a horror movie?
00:35But how hard was all this?
00:38So the challenge is that he doesn't know he's in a movie.
00:41He can't read a script. He can't really listen to direction.
00:45All we can do is learn how to make the movie around him.
00:49It surprises some people to hear that he doesn't know many tricks or commands.
00:53That's what makes him, you know, appear to perform.
00:55A horror, a thriller, it was right for make this kind of film.
01:03It's the right genre.
01:05Partly it's that horror movies use dogs so many times.
01:09It's a trope that exists that a family will move into a spooky old house and that's weird.
01:14The dog won't go into the basement or the dog is always digging around in the backyard next to where
01:20that neighbor who's out late at night.
01:22And I think horror movies have trained audiences to expect that dogs know more, that have these senses to detect
01:28things we can't.
01:29So it's a really easy way to kind of get into the story.
