00:07and when was your final clean sheet as England player remember my final clean
00:13sheet was a games for England was a games let me think Belgium I always
00:27remember clean sheets that's Peter Shilton longtime goalkeeper for England recalling
00:35the last time he kept a clean sheet for his country it also happens to be the
00:39shutout that sets a new World Cup record against Belgium at Italia 90 Shilton
00:45denied the opposition a goal for the tenth time in his World Cup career it is
00:52one of a long list of records held by the shot stopper who won consecutive European
00:56Cups with Nottingham Forest and made over 1,000 professional appearances
01:03but despite setting such incredible benchmarks Shilton's World Cup career
01:08remains forever attached to one moment Diego Maradona's hand of God when the
01:15Argentina skipper left with Shilton to punch the ball into the net in the
01:19quarterfinal of the 1986 World Cup Shilton has not mellowed with the passage of time
01:26I still don't feel very good about it although and even worse because the the
01:32linesman I think who should have given a seen it said he did say it people still
01:37remember it and yeah I've still not forgiven Diego Maradona the generation
01:44later Shilton's record was matched by a goalkeeper with much fonder memories of the
01:49World Cup France legend Fabian Barthez over the course of three tournaments
01:55including the victorious 1998 edition Barthez equaled Shilton with 10 clean sheets
02:03one of those of course was the 98 World Cup final when Barthez denied a Brazil side boasting the likes
02:10of
02:11Ronaldo Rivaldo and Babetto the France 98 Barthez also set a new mark for the fewest goals
02:19conceded during a victorious World Cup run that market to you has since been equaled by
02:26Mika Casillas and Gianluigi Buffon during Buffon's success in 2006 another goalkeeping record was
02:35being set by Switzerland's Pascal Zubabula the Swiss number one kept four consecutive clean sheets
02:42and saved a shootout penalty from Andrei Shevchenko but despite these heroics he became part of the
02:48first team to be eliminated from the knockout stage at a World Cup without conceding a goal
02:55but Zubabula finished one clean sheet short of the consecutive record at World Cups
03:00that still belongs in the safe hands of Italian icon Walter Zenger who didn't concede until the
03:06semi-finals of Italian 90 a run lasting over five and a half games
03:14but that still wasn't enough to see the hosts into the final they were undone in a semi-final shootout
03:21against Argentina following a one-all draw
03:27the scorer of the winning spot kick that's right the World Cup goalkeeper's arch nemesis
