00:13Hey there, I'm Gus G from Firewind and here are six of my favorite warm-up exercises.
00:19And please note that I'm tuned down one whole step. All right, so here we go. First one.
00:40Okay, so basically this is like the standard one, two, three, four chromatic thing that I've always done and everybody
00:46knows.
00:48But instead of doing it on a single string at a time, you switch the strings. You do, you do,
00:53you start on the first string like low E with one and the two is on the A string.
00:59Then go back on the E string, three and four finger on the A. And then you move down to
01:07the next two strings.
01:16You can even get cooler with this and do it across the fretboard.
01:30Kind of like a spider web kind of thing, spider legs.
01:41Yeah, that's a good one to warm up. Okay, exercise number two. Let's do it.
01:56Okay, so this is a legato exercise to kind of like put more strength and get those left hand fingers
02:04moving.
02:05This is a sextuplet. One, two, three, four, five, six.
02:10And basically I'm doing, I'm changing the groupings of the fingers, the fingering basically.
02:17I start like this and then I go with first middle and ring finger.
02:23And back to the pinky.
02:25And then I isolate the pinky with the ring finger.
02:30So that's it.
02:41All right, this next exercise is all across six strings.
03:08Well, if you do that all across the fretboard chromatically, you'll start feeling the burn right here,
03:13which means that it's working and you're warming up.
03:16But make sure to take a break after like a minute of it so you don't have any injuries.
03:22So basically it's a sextuplet.
03:26And then you do it on groups of two strings.
03:34And then you do the, after the ascending, you do the descending.
03:41And chromatically up.
03:48I find this exercise very useful for me when I want to warm up quickly.
03:53And, you know, I want to get the blood flowing here and you get the muscles kind of like waking
03:58up a little bit.
03:59But of course, you know, you got to make sure you have enough breaks and do some stretching in between.
04:04So, yeah, there you go.
04:06Next one.
04:16Okay, so this exercise is basically good for doing, for sweep picking,
04:23where you have to be quick with your fingers to be able to separate them on each string.
04:29So.
04:35I mean, if we're going to take this as an example, here is a 9th fret, B string 8, G
04:43string 7, and D string 6.
04:48And then, you do, you play with your pinky, 9th fret on the D, and then.
05:01It's kind of like a major 7 chord here.
05:19Yeah, very good also, not only for the left hand, but for the right hand picking as well.
05:29You can also try it in other strings, the middle 4 string.
05:40All right, this next one is another sextuplet type of exercise.
05:45It's like this.
05:46It's a good one for alternate picking.
06:00So, basically, what I'm doing is I'm taking a scale, in this case, A minor.
06:07I'm picking every note as opposed to the previous exercise, which was legato.
06:11This is all picked.
06:21Same principle, basically, the same leg, but then we move up to the next position.
06:42So, yeah, this one is going to help you with your alternate picking, warming that one up.
06:51You don't have to do it fast.
06:52You can just start slow.
07:25And so on, and so on.
07:27So, you get the point.
07:29All right, final exercise for warm-up.
07:32It's a single string exercise.
07:33And it's a good one to kind of, like, have that articulation, build that articulation between all the left-hand
07:44fingers.
07:44It's like this.
07:56Yeah, this is a good one to put some more strength on your left hand.
08:00Basically, it's this.
08:05This is a pattern.
08:06Basically, 1, 2, 3, 4.
08:093, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1.
08:15So, you do, like, 1, 2, 3, 4.
08:17You descend.
08:18You know, 3, 2, 1.
08:19And then when you go up again, you go all the way up to the third finger.
08:23You don't do the fourth one again.
08:27And then you slide back one fret.
08:31But you don't pick.
08:35Your right hand should keep focused here with your palm to mute the other string so you don't have unwanted
08:41noise.
08:51And you can also do ascending as well.
09:01There you have it.
09:02I hope you found this cool and useful.
09:07Make sure to always warm up before you start shredding away, all right?
09:10Thanks for tuning in, guys.
09:11Thanks, guys.
