00:00The Fortune 500 has a new winner, and it started in Jeff Bezos' garage.
00:05In 1994, Bezos left a Wall Street career and moved to Bellevue, Washington with a vision
00:10to build an online bookstore that could one day sell everything.
00:14To get there, he built his company in the garage of a rented home,
00:18hosted team meetings at a local Barnes & Noble,
00:21and took around 60 meetings with investors to raise $1 million in seed capital.
00:26But the vast majority were hard-earned no's.
00:29Bezos raised capital from family, friends, and a handful of investors,
00:33giving up a significant stake in exchange for the funds needed to scale.
00:37By the late 90s, Amazon had already expanded beyond books into music, movies, and more.
00:42From day one, Bezos drilled one thing into the company, customer obsession.
00:47That meant relentless focus on low prices, fast shipping, and an ever-expanding selection.
00:53Fast forward to today, Amazon has officially overtaken Walmart
00:57as the top Fortune 500 company, recording $716.9 billion in revenue for 2025.
01:04Its market cap now sits at $2.7 trillion,
01:08making it the world's fifth most valuable company.
01:11Now it's up to CEO Andy Jassy to keep them at the top spot.
