The High Court in Klang on Wednesday (Oct 15) sentenced a former university student to death by hanging after he pleaded guilty to a charge of murdering and burning his pregnant girlfriend in Sabak Bernam, two years ago.

‎‎Judge Norazlin Othman handed down the sentence on Muhammad Fakrul Aiman Sajali, 22, after he maintained his guilty plea.

00:00A former university student has been sentenced to death by hanging after he pleaded guilty
00:07to a charge of murdering and burning his pregnant girlfriend in Sabak Burnam two years ago.
00:13Judge Nurazlin Othman handed down the sentence on Muhammad Fakrul Ayman Sajjali
00:18on Wednesday after he maintained his guilty plea.
00:21The 22-year-old was charged with murdering Nur Anissa Abdul Wahab, age 21,
00:26at Jalan Sungai Limau between 8.30 p.m. on May 22 and 8 a.m. on May 23, 2023.
00:35In her judgment, Nurazlin said the court was satisfied with the accused's unconditional guilty plea and acceptance
00:41that the facts of the case and the exhibits presented by the prosecution were true.
00:47She also said given the seriousness of the offense, described as cruel and premeditated,
00:52it warranted a harsher sentence compared to a spontaneous act of violence.
00:57Not only was one life lost, namely the victim, but also that of her unborn child, who was 18 weeks in the womb.
01:05She added that even more horrifically, the victim's abdomen was torn open, exposing the intestines and internal organs.
01:13The autopsy also revealed burn marks covering almost the entire body.
01:17Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Ashikhin Zulkifli appeared for the prosecution
01:23while the accused was represented by Mohamed Noor Tamrin.
