00:22in a moderate candidate, and candidates that were more strident in their attacks on Trump
00:26and the Republican Party tended to do better. Katie Porter was another early frontrunner.
00:30She's a protege of Elizabeth Warren, former member of Congress, and she was leaving the polls early.
00:35But she ran into trouble after she stormed off the set of an interview with CBS News.
00:39That corroborated concerns about her temperament, as had been expressed in earlier media stories
00:44about her divorce and about her campaign staff and office staff. Then there was Antonio Villaraigosa,
00:50the former Los Angeles mayor, who was runner-up to Gavin Newsom in the 2018 primary.
00:55He looked like a very strong candidate on paper, but he had just been out of politics so long
01:00that he failed to resonate with voters. Betty Yee, the state controller, did very well at the
01:05Democratic Party convention. However, she failed to resonate with voters, and she was one of the
