00:07I'm going to make a statement. You don't.
00:11The British people have made immense sacrifices in the ongoing battle against COVID-19.
00:16I now fear that my comments in the leaked video of the 20th of December last year
00:21have become a distraction in that fight.
00:24My remarks seemed to make light of the rules.
00:27Rules that people were doing everything to obey.
00:31That was never my intention.
00:34I will regret those remarks for the rest of my days.
00:37And now for my profound apologies to all of you at home for them.
00:41Working in government is an immense privilege.
00:43I tried to do right by you all to behave with civility and decency
00:48and act to the high standards you expect of number 10.
00:52Rightly expect of number 10.
00:54I will always be proud of what was achieved at COP26 in Glasgow
00:58and the progress that was made on coal, cars, cash and trees.
01:01This country and the Prime Minister's leadership on climate change and on nature
01:05will make a lasting difference to the whole world.
01:08It has been an honour to play a part in that.
01:10I understand the anger and frustration that people feel.
01:14To all of you who lost loved ones,
01:16who endured intolerable loneliness
01:18and who struggled with your businesses,
01:21I am truly sorry.
01:22And this afternoon I am offering my resignation to the Prime Minister.
01:26Thanks for your time.
01:27Thanks for your time.
