Global health funders fast-track three Ebola vaccines as outbreak continues to spread in Africa

Global health body CEPI is fast-tracking three experimental vaccines against the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola as the outbreak in Central Africa continues to spread.

00:01A total of 291 cases of Ebola have been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
00:09These are the latest figures released by Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
00:15According to the African Union's Health Agency, the virus has killed 43 people.
00:21The outbreak is mainly affecting the DRC with 282 cases and 42 deaths.
00:26In response to the outbreak, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations will urgently accelerate the development of three investigational vaccines
00:37targeting the Bundibuglio virus responsible for the current Ebola outbreak.
00:42The World Health Organization identified these three vaccine candidates as the most promising ones currently under development.
00:50While vaccines are being developed, the WHO said the priority is to stop transmission with tools that have been used
00:59for decades in Ebola responses.
01:02These include disease surveillance, rapid testing, diagnosis, contact tracing, isolation and care for patients.
