00:00Oh man, you want to talk about some sports here in L.A. L.A., tough weekend if you are
00:07a UCLA fan. And what do I mean by that? Well, I am a UCLA fan. I'm a former Bruin
00:13myself.
00:13You're a UCLA baseball legend. You're not just a fan.
00:16You know, I had some legendary moments, D. Fish. Thank you. Thank you for pointing that
00:20out. D. Fish knows. Why don't you people know? Yeah, so I went to UCLA, number one in the
00:26Nation baseball. Ranked number one from day one of the season all the way to the final
00:31day. 51-5 on the season. Just unbelievable team. Man, what a heartbreaking weekend for
00:39them. Hosting a regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Westwood. They drop a game on Friday.
00:45I was at the game. They drop a game to the number four seed, St. Mary's. It was a tough
00:50loss. By the way, St. Mary's could hit a little bit, but UCLA's bats just didn't wake up. And
00:56they get a win in walk-off fashion. I come back for Sunday. They get walked off by St.
01:02Mary's again. This is a team that didn't lose two games in a row all year. It's a team that
01:08didn't lose a single series. And they lose the playoff series. It was sad to see. They
01:13got a class right now that's going to be entering the draft that's going to be really, really
01:19drafted high. It was a bummer. And then, of course, last night, I was thinking even the
01:24basketball side going, you know what? The men's basketball team couldn't get it done.
01:27But you know what? The women got this. And they did. So that's what my mind was. Men's
01:31baseball team couldn't get it done. Well, the women got this. The women got it. Women
01:37got eliminated from the College World Series last night, too.
01:39That was a tough game, too.
01:41Just a rough, rough day for the Bruins, man.
01:43Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I had not gotten a chance to see the guys get after it, you know, this
01:49season. But obviously, over the last couple of weeks and then with us talking so much about
01:53it, like I was tracking their scores. But historically, again, I've just always favored, you know,
02:00Little League World Series, Women's College World Series. You know, as a baseball player,
02:05as a kid, like, you know, I don't know. Something about men's college baseball and the aluminum
02:11bats didn't track for me. The sound kind of can throw you off.
02:16Yeah. It threw me off. So for some reason, I don't know, I gravitated towards watching
02:20other types of baseball. When you played as a kid, like when you played baseball or played
02:24multiple sports, what was like, what was your position? Like, what was your, was it speed
02:28was your game? Were you strong? Because, like, here's the thing. People look at you. If you
02:33meet D. Fish in crowd, D. Fish is a big guy. But I think because you played in the NBA
02:38and
02:39you're surrounded by cell towers of human beings, I think people don't realize how big
02:44you are.
02:46No, sometimes, you know, I get two things. One, some people are like, oh, man, I didn't
02:51realize we were, you know, you're the same size as me. Like, I didn't realize that in
02:56one way, meaning maybe they could have made it to the NBA as well because they think you
03:00have to be seven feet tall to make it to the NBA, you know. But then most people are like,
03:05yeah, no, I didn't realize you were this tall. I'm like, yeah, I'm standing out there
03:09with Wimby.
03:10Yeah, there's nothing you can do.
03:11He makes everybody look small. But yeah, as a kid, I was an outfielder. I think every
03:16now and then I'd fill in. If somebody was out, I'd fill in in the infield. But I was
03:21an outfield guy, you know, could track, fly balls, pretty strong arm. Consistent as a hitter.
03:26I wasn't a home run hitter, but I could get on base. And then once I was on base, you
03:32know,
03:32then we can have some fun a little bit. You know, squeeze out an extra base or two.
03:35But yeah, the Women's College World Series game with UCLA. I mean, first of all, and
03:41Will, if you listen to us, we're going to definitely talk about women's sports.
03:46Oh, yeah.
03:46Probably not necessarily more than other people. I don't waste time talking about what other
03:50people are doing.
03:50But we're legit fans of the W, man. Like, I dig it.
03:53Yeah. And the W is for women. So Women's College World Series, the competitiveness between
04:00these two teams last night. And then I'd watched a little bit of Texas Tech Florida, which we
04:05talked about the other day. Because Jason Williams' daughter, White Chocolate, she plays
04:09for Texas Tech.
04:10And there's been some...
04:12Yeah.
04:12They've been a team.
04:13A lot of spice.
04:14They've been doing some stuff.
04:15But that Texas Tech-UCLA women's game last night was unbelievable.
04:19It was a hell of a game.
04:20The UCLA women's pitcher pitched the entire game into extra innings. Oh, like 180 plus
04:30pitches because they didn't have anybody else to fill in for her. And so by the time you
04:35get to extra innings after the miraculous comeback, and you tell me, like, the batters
04:41are now facing her for like the eighth time of the game.
04:44Yeah. So in baseball, like, here's the deal. In baseball, they always say, like, the rule
04:49is three. You don't want to get a team, a lineup to give you three looks at the same
04:53pitcher. That's why pitchers often come out in the fifth inning, sixth inning, because
04:57that's usually when the lineup's going to come and roll around for the third time. That's
05:01how it goes. You don't want to see somebody a third time. If I could see somebody three
05:04times, I don't care what they've got. I have a pretty good idea what they have. I can
05:09get my timing down, yada, yada, yada. Getting to see somebody five times, six times in
05:14a game, I have a good chance.
05:16Yeah. That's, I mean, I feel like that's what happened to UCLA, you know, last night
05:20on the women's side. But, I mean, it absolutely sucks when you have a really good team that
05:27is capable of winning a championship.
05:29Big time.
05:30And it just doesn't quite come together. UCLA, like you said, on the men's side, you
05:37know, a bunch of guys that are going to probably be in the draft. So there's emotion kind of
05:42in that, when that final out, or for me, that final play. Like, I remember as a college
05:47basketball player, I didn't know I was going to the NBA for sure.
05:51Yeah. Same. Oh my God, same.
05:52So when that last second runs off a clock of your college career, like, you're emotionally
05:58wrecked. Because you don't know if you're going to get a chance to play the sport you
06:02love again.
06:03One of the most emotional days of my life. When we lost our last game at Arizona State.
06:08Yeah, man.
06:09And I'll never forget it. After the game was over, we got, you know, we're in the, we're
06:12in the, getting ready to fly back on Southwest, back to UCLA from, from Arizona State. It's
06:18over. I went straight to the bar and grabbed a drink. My coach was like, Dak, what are you
06:23doing? I'm like, I don't play for you anymore, brother. I'm getting a beer.
06:27Yeah. It was rough. We played, we played in the NIT. I was at Little Rock. We played in
06:33the NIT at Vanderbilt. And so, and I, I took a hard fall during the game. My tailbone is
06:41like vibrating, like it's going to pop out of my back. And so I played through that.
06:46And then after the game, just absolutely crushed, sitting down on the locker room floor, just
06:53wondering if that was the last basketball game I was going to ever play. So I'm, I'm freaking
06:57crying. Teammates are coming over. We're consulting each other. Like it's a rough experience.
07:01So UCLA men's and women's baseball and softball teams are experiencing this all at the same
07:07time. So, I mean, I think school is out. So, you know, I think it's about right. Yeah. So
07:13maybe at least, I think UCLA, either that or finals week is like about to start, which
07:17much like think about that. So you're like emotionally wrecked. You don't even know who
07:22you are. And then you got to figure out how to get it together. Oh, and now I got to
07:25take a test, a chemistry business calculus, final exam. I still have dreams. And this
07:32is true. Raj, this is one. I still have dreams that I have a final that day and I haven't
07:39studied at all. I had that dream two weeks ago, like recurring all the time, all the
07:44time. I've got a dream that I'm always in class, like, but I didn't show up ever, but
07:48finals are coming and I have to pass. Like I have to pass. I can't get held back. Recurring
07:53all the time. You got any recurring? Cause I have, I have one more other recurring. I
07:56have two recurring dreams. It's that dream where I always, I'm always like not ready
08:01for a test. And the other one, I don't know why I keep having this exact dream. It's I'm
08:06on the bench in a baseball game. Someone said deck, you're going up to hit and pinch hit
08:11except I don't have my spikes on. I have shoes on and I'm trying to put my spikes on, but
08:16for some reason I can't tie my spikes on and get onto the field. And then I wake up.
08:22It happens every, I get, I have this dream all the time. I don't know why I'm worried
08:26about myself now. I don't, I don't have any of these recurring dreams. No, no. I mean,
08:30well, you must have it all together. No anxiety. No, I do not. They vary. I don't know if I,
08:38and a lot of times when I have dreams, like if I don't like immediately try to do something
08:44to write it down or track what it was, like I'll forget, you know, halfway through the day,
08:50like what that was that I think the recurring dreams I have are more like, you feel like
08:55you're falling, you know, sometimes and like right before you hit the ground or right before
08:59something bad is going to happen. Like you wake up. Um, and there's times where I have to tell
09:04my, hold on. This is, this is a dream. Just wake up, but wake up. Like every once in a
09:08while
09:08I was just about to get you. Dude, Michael Myers used to always get me. Wake up. He's always
09:13always got me. It's always Michael Myers. Uh, and by the way, it's in the chat right now. Uh,
09:17a lot, Oliver Garrett said, uh, about the UCLA, the LA Bruin fans keep blaming the coach,
09:22the fan base. They are saying it is the coach's fault. Um, I can't stress this enough. John Savage
09:28coach, John Savage, uh, is not only the best UCLA baseball coach ever. He is maybe one of the best
09:34college baseball coaches ever at this point. He's got a national championship. He's been to Omaha
09:39like five times with this team. Um, got UCLA's first championship there. It to say it wasn't
09:46his fault. I think this was just bad luck and a combination. Well, for instance, um, we'll,
09:51we'll get into this probably at some point. Cause I do think college baseball has a very big problem
09:54because I sent you guys both a video, Raj and D fish, uh, about a guy who got kicked out
10:00of his game
10:01yesterday in the Georgia regional and he hits a home run a game. Go ahead. Uh, home run. And he
10:07celebrates, you know, he, he gives it a nice little pimp job. He gives it a nice little like,
10:12and he takes his time and I'll admit the celebration was a lot, but then he's ejected.
10:17And with an ejection in college baseball comes a one game suspension. There were a lot of ejections
10:24this last weekend in college baseball. And it's really, really, really gross when it comes to UCLA
10:29baseball. Their bats got cold. They had an ejection starting into the playoffs. They had a
10:34player named Gasparino who got ejected from the final game, the big 10 championship, which means
10:39he suspended for the first game of the playoffs. Their right fielder pulled his oblique. Their
10:43starting pitcher wasn't available. So they were a little shorthanded and their bats never got it
10:48together. And it was just, it was sad to see it happen. Uh, you know, you got to tip your
10:53caps to
10:53the other, by the way, like that's the other thing that I feel like people always forget. Oh man,
10:57you let down your team. Like say, say that we had a massive upset in the NBA, dude, are they
11:05always
11:05upsets? Those guys on the other team get paid too. Agreed. I, I, you know, there are years where it
11:12just doesn't, just doesn't happen for a combination of reasons. Uh, like you said, whether it's injuries,
11:18timing, you know, one thing that crossed my mind and, and again, I don't know if baseball, you know,
11:25athletes have similar ways of how they like with the college world series format, if you're a number
11:32one team and number one seed, like UCLA, like you, you're planning to like go to Omaha and be around
11:39for a while. Yeah. So how you approach like a first round matchup, um, or regional matchup,
11:46like inherently internally, you're not thinking about, this is like the last game that I might
11:54play. Yeah. And so your urgency is there in terms of like, you're, you're ready to compete,
12:00but you're not like St. Mary's came into the matchup thinking, bro, I have to play the best
12:06ball game of my life. It's balls to the wall in order for us to win in advance. And sometimes
12:12just
12:12that subtle difference between a team that's high seated, high talent, you know, looking to win a
12:20title. Like you just, it's like, you're thinking about preparing yourself to run a marathon and
12:26every team you play against is sprinting from, you know, they're, they're doing a hundred yard dash
12:32and sometimes they just, they beat you to that hundred yard marker and then it's over before you
12:38can really get yourself going. And it seems like, you know, both men's and women's kind of got
12:43themselves into that situation where before you can even realize it's no longer marathon,
12:49you got to sprint, but your opponent's been sprinting already for four or five minutes too late and it's
12:54too late to kind of get the motor going. And so, you know, that it, it's what, you know, makes,
13:01it's why the tears come right. The two singers on the women's side, you know, just hugging their
13:07coach and having their conversations. Man, and she and their coach gave such an emotional speech
13:11afterwards and it was just, it's heartbreaking. It's heartbreaking to see it end this way, but
13:15also, I mean, going out, if your last college game is in the college world series, man, what an
13:22accomplishment, right? Yeah, big time. It's, it, every season doesn't end in a championship.
13:27It's, it's honestly why you see the reactions and the celebrations the way you do. You see grown
13:33people or, you know, college athletes, young adults celebrate like crazy when you win, because it's
13:40actually really hard to win. And so if it was easy to win and win at the highest level,
13:46you wouldn't get the celebrations and the craziness that you do. Um, people would just kind of like
13:51ho hum it and walk off the field and move on about their day. But the crazy celebrations
13:57and, and some of the antics even just come from the realization that like I had to pour every ounce
14:03of myself into this journey and it paid off. You don't know if it's going to pay off, but sometimes
14:10it does and sometimes it doesn't. And so, uh, you know, you have to tip your cap to your opponent
14:15and, uh, you know, SGA talked about it as well. Like it's, you just have to get better. Like you
14:20can make
14:20excuses or you can make, you can talk about realities, injuries, ejections, other setbacks.
14:28Those are not excuses. Those are realities, but sometimes you lose, tip your cap to your opponent.
14:34And then you take a step back and think about how can I get better in order to help the
14:38team? If
14:39we're in this situation again, next season, how can I do a better job to help us win in advance?
14:43And by the way, those of you that don't know, think this UCLA losing is a big story. It was
14:47the
14:48opening story on sports center this morning. Like it's, it is, it is wild. And what, by the way,
14:54congratulations to it being the opening story in sport. Like I do feel like we're getting a lot
14:58of interesting looks at a lot of sports that aren't the, you know, the big three sports, you
15:03know, we're getting a lot of looks at college. The fact that we're getting a lot of looks at college
15:07softball right now, I think is really cool. Cause I'm with you, man. I love watching college
15:12softball. The only thing that drives me nuts about college softball is there isn't like a big
15:16push into a professional softball league right now, the way there is in the W, but what we're
15:22seeing with the W and what we're seeing with the women's soccer league, do you think that we might
15:25eventually get ourselves, you know, maybe a real legitimate pro softball league? I believe we're
15:31getting there. I, if I'm not mistaken, I believe there's a professional league on the, with in
15:36volleyball now that's starting to grow. I think love B or something like that. Um, we'll, we'll get the
15:42clarity on what the league is called, but I do believe there are some leagues professionally,
15:48you know, building traction and, and I've, you know, major sports, you know, uh, major pro sports
15:54are like, that's big time stuff. It takes a really, really long time to build a league that would
15:58even compete or compare to that. Um, but, but I believe in women's volleyball, there's a league
16:03that's starting to grow. I think I heard softball. There's something starting to come together as
16:10well. Um, just so that there's a pathway. I mean, again, we, you know, we have to think about the
16:16fact that if, you know, you have a passion or something you love to do, just, just a pathway
16:22to continue to pursue that even after you, you know, finish college, uh, is, is really important.
16:28I mean, think about how many weekend warriors and people play in men's leagues, women's leagues,
16:31church leagues, especially out here in Southern California to have that opportunity to play
16:35professionally, doing something you'd love to do with is, is a really cool opportunity. So
16:39Love B is the name of the league you're talking about. Yeah. That's the volleyball league.
16:43Love B. Yeah. Good name, by the way.
