00:09The high seas are the areas of ocean that lie beyond national waters. It's almost half the
00:16planets. It belongs to all of us, so we all have this responsibility to look after it.
00:30It plays a very important role in terms of providing food, but also in the functioning
00:36of some of our planet's key Earth systems, such as the climate cycle and the water cycle.
00:53As we see fish stocks dwindling and technology advancing, going further and deeper into the
00:59ocean, the threats are increasing. And until now, there have been no real clear rules on
01:05how to protect this area.
01:09Ladies and gentlemen, the ship has reached the shore.
01:21It's a real symbol of multilateralism, especially in this very challenging geopolitical backdrop.
01:31It's been really seen as a hope spot.
01:48It's not always necessary to be out on the ocean itself to be able to see what's happening.
01:53We see these breakthroughs in tools and technology are going to be absolutely vital to ensure
02:00that it's properly enforced and having the sharing of data, which is going to be a key
02:07thing, and having the transparency to have access to understand what is happening there.
02:21It was an amazing honour. The Earthshot Prize just shows this power of joint effort between
02:30the governments and the scientists and indigenous people, local communities, youth and civil societies
02:37working together for so long to come together for the power of good for the planet.
