00:07Last year, I lost everything on Valentine's Day.

00:11I know it was my fault. I pray no one ever makes the same mistake I did.

00:17A week before the big day, I found myself trying to think of the perfect gift for my girlfriend Cassie.

00:23All the good restaurants had already been booked.

00:26I hated going out on Valentine's Day, so I didn't care too much.

00:30To be honest, our relationship was on a bit of a rough patch.

00:34I still loved my girlfriend, but I found myself wondering if she felt the same.

00:40She had started to go through my things.

00:42I caught her with my phone a few times, as well as seeing her dig in my coat pockets.

00:48I wasn't cheating, and I didn't know why she would ever assume I would do such a thing.

00:52I've heard cheaters act paranoid, but this was Cassie we were talking about.

09:25Then, all at once, I went into action.

09:28I called 911, and I stayed on the line as I looked through the house for Angie.

09:32The operator told me to go outside in case the person who hurt them was still inside the house.

09:37I ignored the advice until I found out it was too late for my brother's girlfriend.

09:42I begged them to send the police over to my parents' place.

09:45My brother wouldn't have mentioned my parents if it wasn't important.

09:50Soon the scene was swarming with cops.

09:52I was taken away to be interviewed.

09:55At least they brought me a change of clothing and shoes and let me wash my hands.

11:31Had Cassie been hurt?

11:32I didn't have much else to lose at that point.

11:34I braced myself for whatever news they were going to give me.

11:38I never would have been ready for what they said.

11:41There had been a fire at my office just after I left for the day.

11:45My co-workers and boss had been inside.

11:48None of them made it.

12:45Our dog Jose followed me around the house.

12:48When I found myself in the living room, I finally noticed he stopped following me.

12:53I paused long enough to listen, expecting to hear him bark.

12:59Or did he just see a stray cat outside?

13:02There was no barking, and no sounds of someone trying to force open the door.

13:07Of course, there wouldn't be.

13:09She already had a key.

13:11I asked when I saw her figure in the dark hallway.

13:16I quickly turned on the light and took a step back when I fully saw her.

13:20Her clothing was soaked in blood.

13:22Some dry, some fresh.

13:25Her arms had long scratches down them.

13:28Her hair was a tangled mess, but the look on her face was what sent chills down my spine.

13:34She was smiling.

13:35You, you're bleeding.

13:38I choked out, but didn't move closer to her.

13:41We should ask the police by the door for some help.

13:43They're not available right now.

13:45She said in a cheery voice that made me take a step back.

13:49Jose went right up to her, tail wagging and tongue out.

13:53My heart nearly stopped when she bent down to pet his white fur,

13:57a dirty knife I hadn't noticed sooner so close to his face.

14:01Did you?

14:01I was unable to finish the terrible question.

14:05Yes, and don't worry.

14:55Instead, I just watched as she flung herself at me.

15:09I collapsed with her on top as she withdrew the knife, only to bring it down once more.

15:22I saw a beaten and bloody cop burst through the door.

15:27His words were drowned out by Jose's barking.

15:30He fired twice.

15:32And then all the sound around us stopped.

15:38Cassie still had that smile on her face.

15:41Not even death stopped her from loving me.

15:43If that cop hadn't shown up when he did, I wouldn't still be alive.

15:48I spent a week in the hospital, comatose from shock.

15:52My body slowly recovered as my mind started to work again.

15:56The nurses were good to me.

15:58The police never told them who I was.

16:00But the office fire and the murderers were on the local news.

16:04The hospital staff were able to put the clues together.

16:20Two weeks after being admitted to the hospital, I woke up with another person in my room.

16:29Someone who made my entire body turn cold, then red hot with anger.

16:35The man with the lazy eyes sat next to me, helping himself to the fruit basket.

16:42I asked him, with my voice shaking.

16:45Because you wanted her to love you.

16:48He answered, as he chewed away on an apple without a care in the world.

16:53That wasn't love.

16:54It was madness.

16:56Isn't that what love is sometimes?

16:58A bit of madness.

17:00And each person acts differently while they're in love.

17:03How can we judge them for their feelings?

17:06I've never hated a person more in my life.

17:09I wanted to strangle him with my bare hands.

17:13I demanded.

17:15His dark eyes finally fell on me.

17:18I asked the question he had been waiting for.

17:20He carefully set down the half-eaten apple, his movement swift and almost inhuman.

17:26I found myself unable to move.

17:28I became frozen in the hospital bed as he slowly started to crawl next to me, his face draped

17:36in shadow, his hands becoming like claws, and his dark eyes now shining in amusement.

17:43I've come to accept my payment, he hissed, his voice growing low and raspy.

17:55My words were cut off by a low laughter.

17:58She loved you so much, she couldn't bear the thought of you caring for another person.
