00:00Will there be no peace between us?
00:02Not in this or any lifetime!
00:04Round one, fight!
00:06Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're looking at some of the more fascinated fan theories surrounding the Mortal Kombat series.
00:13But it's one thing when it's all for show. It's different when you're playing for keeps.
00:19But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the
00:24bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:29Onaga is the next villain.
00:40We'll start things off with a fairly safe one, and a theory about the next game.
00:45After playing key roles in Deception and Armageddon, the Dragon King Onaga has only made minor cameos for the nearly
00:51two decades since.
00:53However, in Mortal Kombat 1, he made a brief but important appearance at the end of Reiko's Tower.
00:59With Liu Kang's new timeline, this tease has a lot of people guessing that the devs are going to try
01:04and bring the villain back in a big way.
01:06And with so many recent storylines focusing on the classic big bads like Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, it would
01:13be cool to see the Dragon King return.
01:15Because Onaga is so dangerous, the general wouldn't risk trying to tame him before.
01:22But now, he feels we have no choice.
01:26A hint of Kronika.
01:28Welcome to the dawn of time.
01:31Here history ends and begins again.
01:34Although she's far from anyone's favorite Mortal Kombat character, Kronika nonetheless plays a vital role in the series as the
01:41former Keeper of Time.
01:43She was only introduced in 2019, but her role naturally had people speculating that she was always pulling the strings
01:49from behind the scenes, manipulating events to create her perfect timeline.
01:54There's a lot of believability to this theory because of Kronika's power, but some players have found ways to back
02:00it up, such as Kai's ending in Armageddon.
02:03While meditating, he connects to the one being, allowing his mind to wander between realms.
02:08But when he looks to the future, he sees nothing, perhaps now retroactively due to the universe reset in 2011,
02:15which is easy to tie to Kronika with this theory.
02:19Geras was the original Keeper of Time.
02:21I, Geras, am a fixed point in time.
02:25With every death and rebirth, I grow stronger.
02:31Speaking of Keepers of Time, there's a strong theory that claims there's more to Geras than meets the eye.
02:37Also introduced in MK11, he was built by Kronika as an immortal construct to act as her messenger and enforcer,
02:44with every one of his deaths increasing his durability.
02:47But, according to some, he was actually rebuilt by Kronika.
02:51Going even further, the original Geras was the Keeper of Time before her, usurped, killed, and recreated as a twisted
02:58joke.
02:59There is mention of a Timekeeper before Kronika, and she never allowed Geras to look after the hourglass, unlike Liu
03:07Kang after he rebuilt him, adding credence to the theory.
03:11Shao Kahn was once a hero.
03:13Their pathetic Mortal Kombat shackles me no longer.
03:18Okay, maybe hero is a strong word.
03:21It's hard to believe that the staggering giant of a general who has been tormenting us for decades is anything
03:27other than a horrible monster.
03:28Still, some fans seek reasoning behind his villainy.
03:31He's been described as a protector of Outworld in the past, holding a similar responsibility to Raiden.
03:37So, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that he once held good intentions, but through some pretty barbaric acts,
03:44lost his way.
03:45Even after the Mortal Kombat 1 reset, he's first shown to be fairly antagonistic with a smaller seat of power,
03:52but still with his ultimate goal being what he believes to be best for Outworld.
03:56Are you going to blather or make yourself useful? This Earthrealm must be neutralized!
04:03Liu Kang's Destiny
04:05Are you ready to begin the search?
04:08Ready enough. May there be other timelines and titans to find.
04:13As a Shaolin monk, Liu Kang came from humble beginnings, but there are some who believe he was always destined
04:19for something more.
04:21In fact, divinity was always what was in store for him.
04:24It's another easier one to back up. Liu Kang has been at the center of every important plotline since the
04:29beginning of the series.
04:31Apparently, each hardship and death was an important step in becoming a god.
04:35However, what exactly has been steering him towards this repeated role before eventually reaching godhood, be it fate or some
04:42other unseen force, is up to you.
04:45Agreed. Chang Sung is likely already gathering allies as I gathered you. We must best his efforts.
04:53Faded rivalries. Liu Kang isn't the only example of destiny in the series.
04:58Across Mortal Kombat, even though all the heroes hate all the villains, there seem to be specific rivalries that are
05:04maintained across timeline resets, no matter what.
05:08Although, who or what is maintaining these fated rivalries is a mystery.
05:12Sonya vs. Kano, Raiden vs. Shao Kahn, Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung.
05:17Hell, even in Mortal Kombat 1, they still found a way to pit Sub-Zero against Scorpion, despite them being
05:23brothers and the latter not being Hanzo Hasashi in this timeline.
05:27And even though that game left Katana and Mileena on relatively good terms, pattern would dictate that they'll be pinned
05:34against each other soon.
05:36Or, better yet, bring back Devorah, reignite that rivalry, and let Mileena kill her this time to give justice to
05:43the fans.
05:54Dramon is King Jared.
05:56This one's an oldie but a goodie, and admittedly takes a little suspension of disbelief.
06:01Dramon debuted in 2002's Deadly Alliance as an Oni from Netherrealm who was freed by Quan Chi on the promise
06:07that he would defend him from Scorpion.
06:09His backstory referred to him as a vicious warlord from Outworld condemned to burn in what is basically Mortal Kombat's
06:16hell for centuries until he was freed.
06:18Although the connection is a little thin, a theory did spread back in the day that Dramon was really the
06:23Oni form of King Jared, Sindel's former husband who was overthrown and killed by Shao Kahn.
06:29This event did happen centuries before the original games.
06:33With few other appearances, it hasn't been that popular of a theory for some time, but it's still fun to
06:39imagine an alternate history with this version of Jared.
06:42She left the order rather than accept punishment.
06:45Punishment?
06:46It was not her fault.
06:48Frost is Sub-Zero's sister.
06:51Fight!
06:55Another classic theory and one that holds a lot of water.
06:59Also introduced in Deadly Alliance, it was easy to form a connection between Frost and Sub-Zero given their similar
07:05power sets.
07:06Her background described her as a mysterious female who appeared out of nowhere to win a Lin Kuei recruitment tournament.
07:13In the games, she's usually his former impatient apprentice who challenges him over his rule.
07:18Given how rare Cryomancy is, which is why he chooses to train her in the first place, and her mysterious
07:24background, some players believe her to be his long-lost sister.
07:28Moreover, the official website of Mortal Kombat Mythologies, Sub-Zero, mentions Bi-Han and Kuai Liang having a sister they
07:36haven't seen since childhood.
07:37It's never been officially confirmed.
07:40In Deadly Alliance, Sub-Zero believes he and Frost are descendants of the same race, but that could always be
07:46retconned in Liu Kang's new timeline.
07:49The Elder Gods are evil.
07:51The Elder Gods are arguably one of the more inconsistent pieces of Mortal Kombat lore.
07:56Their inaction and indifference has led to a widespread belief that they are the true villains of the series, trying
08:02to keep everything in chaos for their own benefit.
08:05It's said they waged war against the one being long ago, causing their adversary to split into the different realms.
08:12And to keep them separate, the Elder Gods set up a sadistic fighting tournament to keep everyone in check.
08:17Evidence of their neglect can be seen throughout the series.
08:21When Shao Kahn continuously wins in an effort to merge the realms, they don't do anything until the last second.
08:27And Shinnok, one of their own, is easily able to surprise attack Earthrealm without them doing anything.
08:34Sometimes, they're downright immoral for no reason.
08:37In a previous timeline, they promised to resurrect Scorpion's clan, only to return them as the undead.
08:43Revenge against me?
08:45Against the Elder Gods.
08:47They betrayed me.
08:49As reward for doing their bidding, they promised to resurrect my clan.

09:19Johnny Cage's Legacy.
09:21Hey, beautiful.
09:22Johnny Cage.
09:24Good for you.
09:25What?
09:26Massive Strike?
09:27Citizen Cage?
09:29Ninja Mime?
09:30None of those ring a bell?
09:31Let's end on a fun one.
09:33A long-running meta theory claims that every Mortal Kombat story is really a movie directed by movie star turned
09:40Earthrealm defender, Johnny Cage.
09:42Hey, it would explain how he usually gets a happy ending.
09:46Some even theorize that certain slumps throughout the series were just natural results that come with being an artist.
09:52The crossover with the DC Universe and the DLC characters of more recent games?
09:57That's just strengthening the brand.
09:59Universe Resets?
10:01A way to keep things fresh.
10:02Funnily enough, this was actually sort of addressed in Mortal Kombat 1.
10:07In his Tower ending, Johnny Cage is entrusted with informing the wider public of Earthrealm about the existence of Outworld.
10:14And he chooses to do so by building a multimedia empire.
10:19I like that I'm doing a public service.
10:22And it doesn't hurt that I'm making more than a few bucks.
