00:11Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we'll be explaining what each of the six realms of Mortal Kombat are, who
00:17resides in them, and what their purpose in the overall story is.
00:22My brother, Shao Kahn, and his allies, they are all here somewhere.
00:28And they will all die here.

00:39Earthrealm.
00:40I am Liu Kang, protector of Earthrealm. May we enter?
00:47Yeah, let's just get this one out of the way. Everyone knows what Earthrealm is, it's just Earth.
00:52It's where us Earthlings live, in our own messed up harmony in the Mortal Kombat world, and it has no
00:58idea that it's a part of anything outside of its own bubble.
01:01And a good chunk of our heroes hail from this part of the universe.
01:05Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, the Special Forces crew, Nightwolf, even everyone's favorite weirdo, Su Hao.
01:13Despite being completely oblivious to the possibility of other realms, Earthrealm is basically the one that is under constant threat.
01:22As we see at the start of the first Mortal Kombat, with further clarification provided by MK9, Earthrealm has been
01:28eating dirt and lost too many tournaments.
01:30So, there's a lot riding on the one that picks up the story, because if they lose, Earthrealm belongs to
01:37Outworld.
01:38Dun dun dun!
01:39As far as weapons go, it's no surprise given that most Earthrealmers do not have access to magical abilities like
01:46residents from other realms do.
01:48Most of them, such as Jax and Sonya, only have a bunch of high-tech toys to fight with.
01:53And of course, since this is where most of our main cast is, Earthrealm gets to enjoy its own plot
01:59armor and never be conquered a single time.
02:02Well, save for those couple of times where Shao Kahn deliberately broke the rules and invaded it anyways.
02:09So, Madam Bo, are they ready?
02:12A bit thick in the head, perhaps.
02:15But they are ready.
02:17Outworld.
02:19Outworld can be both alien and intoxicating to Earthrealmers.
02:23Do not become drawn in.
02:25Outworld is basically the opposite of Earthrealm.
02:29Whereas Earthrealm excels in technology, Outworld has access to all forms of magic thanks to its diverse denizens.
02:36However, in a similar manner to Earthrealm, there is a significant power imbalance between Outworld's people and its leaders.
02:44While Shao Kahn rules over from a comfortable fortress, his subjects are forced to build defenses and live in squalor.
02:51The Tarkatans, especially, are typically treated worse than the others, often used as soldiers and fodder for Shao Kahn's conquests.
03:01But one thing you'd notice from walking around in Outworld is that, just like in Earthrealm, no one is truly
03:07an Outworld native.
03:08It is inhabited by individuals of all races, from Shao Kahn's to Saurians to Edenians, and to even vampires and
03:16dragons.
03:17Sure, you have folks like Bo Raicho and Lee May wandering about who are Outworlders, but who's to say they
03:24didn't descend from Earthrealm or some other realm?
03:26We do get a glimpse of Outworld in better times between MKX and MK1.
03:31In the former, Kotal Kahn leads the people on a path to make Outworld a prosperous realm, where everyone is
03:38treated as equals.
03:40In the latter, Outworld seems like it's living a luxurious life with Sindel ruling.
03:45However, the Earthrealm warriors soon learn that it's become plagued with political conspiracies, as well as the dreaded Tarkat disease.
03:54This realm truly can't ever catch a break.
03:57On second thought, this scene's playing fine without us.
04:01Yeah, I say we let him finish it.
04:04Netherrealm.
04:13In the world of Mortal Kombat, Netherrealm is essentially hell.
04:17It is a world covered in rock, brimstone, lava, and fire, and it is where the souls of evildoers go
04:24once they have perished.
04:26Many of the individuals who have gone here would reappear in new forms.
04:31For example, when Bi-Han died, he was sent to Netherrealm, where he would be born again as a vengeful
04:37wraith.
04:38Because of this process, Netherrealm doesn't really have any notable residents.
04:42Anybody who does live there has come from other realms.
04:45The only true native creatures inhabiting Netherrealm are the various demons roaming around the land.
04:51And what's horrible for them is that they are never allowed to leave.
04:55Should they try to step outside of Netherrealm, they will suffer a slow and painful death as their bodies rapidly
05:02decay.
05:03One individual you'll see frequently, though, is the sorcerer Quan Chi,
05:08who often uses Netherrealm's demons and victims as part of his visceral experiments.
05:14Some demons claim that Quan Chi is actually from the Netherrealm, but that has yet to be confirmed or denied.
05:27Chaos Realm
05:28Chaos?
05:30The nature of this realm is one of a constant turmoil.
05:33The beings here oppose order and structure.
05:37Chaos is their religion.
05:38With residents like Havoc running around, one would think that Chaos Realm is a sort of hell where people deliberately
05:45choose to go to.
05:47That would be a good guess, but the reality is much simpler than that.
05:51Chaos Realm is a realm fueled entirely by the concept of anarchy.
05:55To them, anarchy isn't just a form of governance, it is a religion to follow.
06:01It is a way of life.
06:02Anything goes here, and there is nothing anyone can do or say otherwise to change it.
06:08What might be the strangest part about Chaos Realm's history is how Havoc is the only notable resident to ever
06:14exist.
06:15From what we've seen in Mortal Kombat Deception, Chaos Realm denizens typically keep to themselves,
06:21spreading their own conspiracy theories, or breaking the fourth wall, oddly enough.
06:26Other than that, it's a realm you only venture into at your own risk.
06:30There isn't much reason to be here for level-headed folk.
06:33Chaos warps and confuses the mind.
06:35The time I have spent here has caused me to forget who I am.
06:39Order Realm
06:40Ignorance is not an excuse.
06:43I am placing you under arrest for disregarding the laws of this city.
06:47Your trial will take place in the realm of order.
06:50For as dumb as its name sounds out loud, Order Realm exists practically to be the yin to Chaos Realm's
06:57yang.
06:58Order Realm is where everything is dictated by law and...
07:01Well, Order.
07:02Everything is done a certain way, rules are in place to maintain the status quo, and everyone strives for honest
07:08success.
07:09However, this way of life has put them at odds with Chaos Realm, though not for the reasons you may
07:15think.
07:16The feud between the two realms isn't just because of their differing religions, but primarily because of the resources Chaos
07:22Realm holds.
07:23Surprisingly, Chaos Realm holds a great wealth of water, and Order Realm wants some of that for themselves.
07:31Despite how important this war may be between the two realms, it doesn't seem like anybody from the other realms
07:37really care all that much.
07:38In any event, do not presume to judge my methods.
07:42You yourself have done many dishonorable things during your lifelong journey.
07:46And lastly, Edenia.
07:49At last, home in Edenia.
07:51I appear to be somewhere near the ancient craters of the Southlands.
07:55Out of all of the realms one may want to reside in, Edenia would be the ideal choice.
08:00To many, Edenia was an absolute paradise.
08:04Aging wasn't much of a concern, the cuisine was immaculate, and the military was strong enough to hold its own.
08:11Or, so they thought.
08:12King Jared, Edenia's ruler, had chosen warriors who failed to win a single tournament for ten consecutive years,
08:20thus allowing Outworld to merge with Edenia.
08:23And so, Shao Kahn took control of the realm and made Sindel, Kitana, and Jade his servants.
08:30The people of Edenia did not back down so easily, though.
08:33Outworld's invasion of Edenia was a total bloodbath, resulting in the loss of many Edenian lives.
08:39The only notable denizens remaining are primarily those who served under Sindel's rule before the invasion.
08:45Perhaps one of these days we'll get a Mortal Kombat game where Edenia gets a new story.
08:50One where it's not under the thumb or threat of Shao Kahn.
08:54But asking NRS for an original idea is like asking Coca-Cola for a new recipe.
08:58You're just going to get new Coke, which is just regular Coca-Cola again in a different package.
09:04Am I right?
09:04The quest did nothing to resolve the instability of the realms.
09:09But as protector of Edenia, I vow to stave off Armageddon until a solution can be found.
